Help needed for Rinzler-wrangling!
Hey everyone!
This is Sue, Alan Bradley’s player, and I’m here today with an excellent opportunity for your character to be a well-meaning-but-morally-ambiguous-or-just-plain-morally-ambiguous badass! The gist of it is this: Alan needs volunteers who would be willing to chase down and subdue Rinzler (the lovely
notglitching), AKA the program who is semi-infamous on the ship for murdering both Vorrick Longshadow and J, and the fact that Alice Quinn and Peter Maximoff tried to kill him with an elaborate deathtrap. Alan is operating under the (mistaken) belief that he can isolate and alter the exact variable that’s causing Rinzler’s violent tendencies without affecting the rest of Rinzler’s programming. He does not see it as brainwashing, but closer to the removal of a brain tumor -- one that endangers not only Rinzler, but everyone else on the ship as well.
Rinzler, however, knows what Alan is planning and is going to nope out like a cat with an upcoming veterinary appointment. That’s where your character comes in! Alan needs a few volunteers to bring Rinzler to him so he can carry out the procedure. Wounded as he is, Rinzler won’t be as much of a threat as usual, which means you don’t have to worry about your character getting injured if you don’t want (though that could also be an option if you’d like!). It would also be helpful if some characters stayed during the procedure itself to keep Rinzler from bolting.
ICly, there will be vague rumblings about the plan spreading through potentially interested crew via word-of-mouth starting on the 24th-ish. Due to the whole prison zombie fiasco, most characters will probably have more immediate concerns to deal with, but are still free to contact Alan privately for details. Involved characters will learn that after the aforementioned zombie crisis resolves, Alan needs Rinzler brought to Moro Deck #004 alive and ideally unharmed, though he is aware that force (and self-defense) may be necessary. The log for capture and edit attempts will ICly take place on the 29th of April.
Even after all your characters’ hard work, Alan’s attempt to fix the problem will fail. In fact, Alan will chicken out after he realizes that fixing the problem would be a lot less “tumor removal” and a lot more “lobotomy.” Rinzler will be allowed to leave and word of Alan’s unsuccessful recode attempt will become public knowledge, at which point your character is free to hate on him for either failing to protect his crewmates or for attempting to violate sapient rights. Whatever you choose, Alan loses \o/
If you would like to participate, please comment below with your character, what assistance they’ll provide, and any other information or questions you think relevant. Hope this sounds interesting to people and if you do join: happy hunting! o/

In the aftermath, there's going to be a public post that makes the attempt clear-- Vision and anyone else on the "this should never have happened" side are welcome to react afterwards to whatever degree they would.
Hope that helps!

...Once Asriel understands that lobotomy is a thing that can happen to a program holy shit

You guys both have my blanket permission for anything because this plot looks so super neat and yes I would like to subscribe to this good or service.
...Sam would be pretty horrified tho ngl. This whole thing is waaaay too much like Clu's Grid.

It's not his business to get involved, and he's sort of busy dealing with D-E-L and the zombies. But he'll judge Alan afterwards for it. I totally want the hypocrite bot to say something about this.

Though seriously BB is likely going to be horrified, because he just knew at some point there would be a witch hunt of sorts and is no afraid if he gets out of hand he'll be unplugged. Thanks Alan for confirming that for him there, he thought you were a bro.

Sorry BB, but he does have experience in that area ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Though we really should find an IC reason for Alan to not have contacted Tron for help. I don't think we really worked that out on Plurk?

That’s just the first solution to come to mind though! If you’d rather head in another direction, I’m definitely open to suggestions o7
