AUGUST TEST DRIVE MEME

ABOARD THE MOIRA

Whether adjusting to space travel has been difficult or not, there is always something to be done. From working to leisure, the Moira offers a multitude of opportunities to get to know your crewmates a bit better. Exploration of the ship is highly encouraged, but as another planet grows closer to being docked, things start to get a little hectic. You'll notice a slight change in the artificial gravity as the Moira is pulled into the planet's gravitational field; however, more noticeable changes can be found in the overall morale as you prepare to descend.

☄ on the aft:

Offering an unobstructed view, it's quite easy to see stars that are still light years away. Like your own personal observatory, things are relatively quiet since other members are busy. While visiting, your steps may feel lighter as the ship's gravity is affected most here, but don't worry! The barrier surrounding the aft will keep you from floating away. Take note: if you happen to find yourself alone, no matter how brief, you may hear a distant echo — like a voice calling to you. For the most part, it's harmless. However, those curious enough to attempt to heed those words may find themselves suddenly jettisoned into space through a momentary lapse in the Moira's safety systems.

Hopefully you're wearing your thermals! The MID relay will alert the ship of this emergency, but who knows how long it will take for someone to retrieve you.

☄ in the mess hall:

It's breakfast time! On the buffet lining the back wall, you'll find an assortment of hurriedly prepared foods, but it's not the rations you've been accustomed to since the last port. There are stacks of green pancakes that taste like stale yet metallic bread. Are those eggs? Yes. Do they taste good? Probably not. Since supplies are scarce, there isn't much else to eat. The water might seem a bit brown, but is that really water you're drinking? After a while, depending on how much you've drank, you start to feel lightheaded... That's some strong space liquor right there.

☄ on your own:

There are plenty of other communal areas on the ship to explore! Pick a place, and see where it takes you.

PLANET EXPLORATION

Welcome to Hyacintho!

WARNINGS for possible psychological trauma, suffocation, and hallucinations.

From the outside, Hyacintho appears to be devoid of natives. Its landscape is sparse of vegetation with many slow-flowing streams tinted a murky blue. Craggy rock formations jut up randomly from the ground, hinting at abrupt development and are razor-sharp to the touch. Upon further exploration, dome-like structures can be found and appear to be abandoned settlements. Some are smaller and clustered close to the ground while others are elevated and connected by swinging bridges. Watching your MID here is critical; it monitors atmospheric composition with steady beeps that signal hazardous conditions. Staying on Hyacintho's surface for extended periods of time is ill-advised.

☄ the dormant volcanoes:

Scoping Hyacintho's peculiar topography leads to the discovery of inactive volcanoes and lava tubes. Some are easily accessible while others take more effort to reach—it's a steep climb to the vent. The ground shifts under your feet and can make walking difficult. Yet, the closer you come to a particular one, you may notice subtle changes in temperature and the air smelling faintly of sulfur. Perhaps this planet isn't as latent as you first thought.

Around midday, vibrations are unexpectedly felt and whatever light from Hyacintho's suns is blotted out by ashy clouds the same color as the ground. Small pockets of blue lava seep from those sharp rock formations, and that light sulfuric smell has now become increasingly overwhelming. Time to make a quick escape back to the Moira!

☄ the delirium:

When something terrible happens, sometimes it leaves a trace, a wound that acts as a knot between two timelines. It's like an echo repeated over and over, waiting to be heard... Like a scar or a pinch that begs for a caress to relieve it. An itch under your skin or a memory fading before your eyes.

The faint sound of your MID has grown unreasonably loud. In the back of your mind, you know what it means, but you're too lethargic to attend to its warning. Where once you believed Hyacintho to be absent of life, it is now overrun. Falling back to the safety of the ship is now much too difficult to do quickly. Your limbs are heavy, the natives' faces blurry and unrecognizable as if they're a great distance away, but you swear you can feel them breathing on your neck, dragging their hands down your arms and back. You struggle, falling over yourself and are swayed by the delusions you are rapidly succumbing to. Yet, somehow, the Moira is just ahead. Within reach. Are you at the door now? Are your friends with you to drag you inside? Are they even calling to you?

You ask yourself why you're breathing so heavily.

You aren't.

Better than the bunk beds, at least. A little more privacy, when you finally do succumb to all my efforts in your direction.

[He smiles, teasing, because he's very used to Billy saying no at this point. It's an old routine. As is being the optimist to Billy's pessimist.]

I never thought I'd miss anything about hell, but yes, me too. Don't think it will get you out of the occasional nocturnal visitation, though, even if we're assigned to separate rooms.

[They'd at least had rooms to themselves, anyway. But the few times they had shared a bed had been more for comfort than anything else, teasing aside, and he can't imagine that stopping now, even with other people around.]

But the jokes are the best reason to do it, Billy. You know you like them really.

[As she's an intimidating 5'3'', she makes a good solid effort of toddling after his long strides. And swears in Indogene as the rough ground makes it difficult, but as soon as they're at the ship she collapses in a tired heap by the door and looks out to her side, waiting for anyone else to come back.]

Those idiots better manage to make it back here.

[She's gruff, but definitely fussy over people. She worries.]

[ And if he thinks that gives him leeway to boss her around any further than "jump over there", he'll be in for a nasty surprise (probably the one where she eats him for lunch, because, seriously, a talking raccoon). ]

Got it!

[ That's the only confirmation Rocket gets before she goes out on a limb here and trusts him. It's his hide on the line, too, so she way as well. Rinth makes a hard left, running a few more paces before skidding to a halt as the ground falls apart into blue around them, but only to gather herself up for one giant leap that takes them over the last few yards to safety. She lands heavily against solid rock. It doesn't give, so it's there she takes a break to catch her breath. ]

We're definitely needing privacy for that.

[If the day ever came, anyway. That was a big step. But he wasn't ruling it out either... or the nightly visits.]

Those are definitely still on. Being alone here? Not going to work.

[He rolls his eyes, lips curling up into a slight smile.]

Well, I'm definitely used to them

[ He knows the shape of him all right, the pathetic little look he's giving him and what Deimos thinks Cain could do for him. That's not how this show works though, not how he's wired, and he wipes at the sweat just on the underside of his jaw as a smirk settles into place. It's a lot more natural than the previous one, familiarity breeding confidence and snark and every other emotion he's decided to wear today. ]

It's just you, huh. [ Cain's got his distraction now. Those cheap weights certainly hadn't done it for him. ] What do you want?

[ Their usual arrangement doesn't work here because he's all but useless in a place that doesn't run on the same regulations as they're used to. There are no other fighters here, no navigators. Most of those pansy bitches probably think they know a thing or two about those things, but Cain's seen it. He's sneered at them for it. Honestly, he never actually thought he'd miss the stability it brought. ]

If you've got nothing, get lost. You're wastin' my time. [ He's much too busy beating the hell out of this equipment to give him a second look. ]

[Mess hall]

[He's tired. He would be anyway, his life before he got here was... tired. And adding the stress of all... this isn't exactly rejuvenating.

Or maybe it is, a little. 'New start' rings in his head but the problem is that he has no idea what to do here. He has no advantage and he's no space cadet.

He gets whatever material he can find and reads it, even while he's in the mess hall, absently chewing on the tasteless food. Sad fact is: he's had worse.]

He's alive. [It's almost disbelieving, but hell, who knows just how much the serum really changed in Steve? Cold could slow metabolic processes - maybe he's just... hibernating. For seventy years.] I'll be damned.

[It's a little wry and a little bitter, because seventy years is a long time, and the safe money is on most, if not all of them, being dead by the time Steve is found. But he's alive, and if anyone deserves a second shot at life, it's Steve.]

If he shows up. [He nods, smiling a little. Yeah, they'd need to talk.] What sort of team? Don't tell me the Army's staked a claim on him again.

[ Ah, there's his little mouse.

There's more satisfaction in that than anything he might have done to the weights at his feet, and Cain presses a foot into the soft padding of the bench, leaning forward like he's making an effort to invite Deimos further into his personal space. They're all the same, simple attentions diverted by the promise of more. As if he'd ever give it though, his smile melting into something thinner. An elbow braced on a thigh, he reaches out with his other hand to grip Deimos' chin. He can't say he's surprised, really. Cain might have been dealing with other things, but he'd made it a priority to get a feel for some of the other crew members. ]

Is that what you think we should do? [ A flick of amusement, and he slides his fingers up, squeezing his jaw once before letting go. It'd be too easy to crush him with the mood he's in. ] I'll consider it.

[ It might not be the same whispers of mutiny now that they're dealing with the Moira, but it's always good to have his options lined in a row. Cain's heard some talk himself, though he doesn't bother divulging that tidbit to Deimos. A low tch, and he knows he's softer than he might have been, dragging his hand down and poking a finger into his chest. ]

But I want something other than the shit you just told me. You can do better, Myshonok.

[ Another push with that finger, and Cain draws back. He's done talking. ]

I'm not gonna mess with your fucking pancakes, alright?

[Why? Why would he think to take someone else's when his stack of off green bread disks were sitting right in front of him.]

You should be careful with drinking that.

[Rick's face scrunches up, thoughtful, then he points at Boba Fett.]

Yes, you. It might hurt you. It might have negative side effects. [He gestures at himself.] Nothing kills me. I'm immune to one hundred and seventy-nine different types of poison. I know because I ingested them all at once when I was deep undercover.

[There was no point in hiding who he was. Not in outer space. There was no CIA here.]

[He bristles visibly at the question. His posture raises slightly and his jaw sets. Tony might not be a warrior, but there are times when he'll put on the commanding presence and take a challenge. Saying that, Loki doesn't need to clarify what he means. Tony's reputation among heroes is still suffering and it is fresh enough to be on his mind.]

I'm not like you if we need a comparison.

[Not that Loki is being particularly malicious at the moment either. Tony had generally agreed to follow Thor's lead on how to handle him, since Loki was Thor's brother. But Thor isn't there at the moment and this is getting personal.]

You're not that good. Unless you'd like to try your luck right now.

[An arm darts out, a very strong and manly arm, thank you very much, grabbing the boy by the ankle and pulling him back in. The boy was lucky, not Rick because he made his own luck, that the agent had happened to come by when he did.]

There, I've saved you.

[He helps right Dipper, pushing him away from the barrier.]

Let's just stay away from there. Never know when something insane might happen.

[Rick straightens up, dusts his front, fixes his jacket.]

I've been in more insane situations, though, so I was well equipped to help you out. I've jumped, from a high-rise building using only a raincoat as a parachute and broke both legs upon landing. And still had to pretend I was in a fucking Cirque du Soleil show.

Rose is still taking in her surroundings. Dimension hopping was one thing and the TARDIS another but being on an actual ship. Well it had been a while for her. Almost like a lifetime ago it seems as she notes the bloke reading and eating the food. She wonders if it's any good.

The Tenth Doctor has found himself at the buffet line, still unaware how he came to be where he was. This was clearly not the TARDIS and not the Ood Sphere either. Just where was he?

The sound of a voice he almost recognizes makes him stop in his tracks. He looks at the gentleman in Victorian dress, and is a little surprised by the get-up.

"Ah...were you talking to me?"

This was definitely not Destiny. That much was certain. The interior of the ship seemed to be more sophisticated--not ancient. Dr. Rush looked around him in bewilderment. He expected to find himself waking up in the stasis capsule where he was placed for the long journey, but this...

Actually it's mostly a gold compound with some additional shielding. The circuitry is built in and the control... Well, that's more complex.

[He's not ready to explain Extremis. But that doesn't mean he can't give Howard a brief summary.]

We do. More so now than ever. It turns out we're kind of behind on advancements compared to everyone else. But we have our moments.

It hasn't started singing "Daisy", yet, if that helps. I'm not sure it would speak any of the languages of Midgard- ah, Earth.

[Loki's taste for human pop culture might only be a year old or so, but not needing much sleep and only occasionally having to do something resembling work gave him a lot of time to catch up. He thinks that's the right reference, anyway.

He's not sure how many people here have heard of Asgard, though, so the substitution seems like a good idea.]

But yes, I could do without the constant having to do a job. It's really not my style.

I'm sure we can manage something, if we have to.

[It's a very big ship, and so far very few inhabitants. He's sure they can find somewhere to spend a little time alone, at least.]

I don't think alone will be much of a problem for you, master Kaplan. You're perfectly capable of making friends. And I'm... getting acquainted with people.

[Assessing them, mostly. It's a habit he hasn't quite overcome yet, which he's actually grateful for right now. Knowing who to be able to rely on is useful.

He pulls a mock-offended face at the comment.]

Are you trying to claim I'm not amusing? I try my hardest to keep you entertained, and you're rejecting my attempts. How very cruel of you.

No-one is like me, except me. A fact I'm sure all the inhabitants of the Ten Realms are very grateful for, me included.

[A slightly bitter undertone there, but a very hard look in his eyes. If Tony Stark wants to play the hero to bolster his ego, that's all very well, but Loki isn't here to cower.

...Running is still definitely an option, though. Fleeing is always a valid option. Even if he was here first.]

With the machines themselves, or the programming of them? I understand all languages, mister Stark. What makes you think the languages of computers aren't included?

I guess so.

[It's not like... he wants to push people out. He's a little wary of trying to make new contacts, however. It hadn't always paid off in hell and so many faces had a tendency of coming and going too fast.

He snorts.]

No, you're very amusing, Loki. And entertaining.

[The strange correction makes him raise his eyebrows. As Leon gets a better look at the guy, he seems like a young man that's normal enough (the whole space trip aside) and he relaxes slightly. He didn't know what he was expecting to find on the Moira, but with his luck, it probably wouldn't have been human.]

Everyone else does. What language would it speak?

[It sounds like the guy is suggesting that they really are dealing with alien races and he's not sure how he feels about that. It probably shows on his face with a quirk of doubt and serious thought. He has enough trouble with zombies and mutants.]

Nothing wrong with having a job to do while we're here, but I don't know anything about space or how to do things on a ship like this. I'm not going to be much help.

[That said, he is giving Loki a slightly stern look. Don't just slack off.]

The language of whoever made it, presumably. Or one of many computer languages. Besides, you think everyone is speaking English. It doesn't follow they actually are.

[Loki, for example, is speaking All-Tongue, which just happens to sound like the listener's native language with a slight accent. Vaguely Scandinavian, in the case of English.

He's perfectly comfortable with aliens, as it happens. Some of his favourite acquaintances are aliens and mutants.]

So much routine and order is so very unnatural. I wouldn't worry too much about knowing what you're doing, though. Presumably anything very important is automated. That, or we're all doomed.

[See: chaos god.]
