[ There's an old man on the observation deck, a cigar in his mouth, puffing away. (If he's not supposed to be smoking on board, no one has quite told him that yet.) One hand holds the cigar, the other is on his hip. He's staring down at the volcanic planet below, weighing his options.
He's been told he can scout out the planet, but goddamn, it looks hot. Nate's adventures have landed him in hot water before, but maybe not so literally. (...Actually, in looking, he's not quite sure that there is any water down there. With how hot the surface is, most of it would probably be steam.) Still, he's looked over most of the ship by now - everywhere that isn't locked - and seeing an entirely different planet is sort of once-in-a-lifetime, isn't it?
...Maybe not so much, anymore. Still, it seems worth looking at.
There's the sign of an explosion below, and Sully takes an instinctive step back from the glass (or whatever material it is), quickly re-thinking whether he'll go after all. To anyone who happens to be in earshot, Sully says, ] Maybe I can skip this particular opportunity to get blown up.
[ Pulling the cigar from his mouth, Sully exhales a cloud of smoke, not quite turning to his company, but aware enough of another person's prescense to know he's not standing around talking to himself. (That's a friend of his' speciality.) ] What about you, think there's anything interesting enough to get set on fire down there?
b. Under Pressure
[ Turns out, the planet's surface is just as terrible as it looked from the ship. Sully is already considering turning back... but maybe he'll just make it to the ridge slightly ahead of him and see if there's anything interesting there, then turn around and head back. He's not as young as he used to be - exploring in agonizing conditions isn't for him anymore.
He steps forward, intent on heading up the slope, and nearly loses his footing - when he looks down to make sure the ground isn't crumbling beneath him (wouldn't be the first time), he notices instead a very familiar glimmer where his foot had slipped.
Sully would know rough diamond anywhere. ]
Holy-- is that--
[ He stoops, dusting around the surface. The slightest pressure of his fingers causes more to appear, and he watches in awe as a fortune reveals itself underneath him.
He's already calculating ways to bring as much as of this back with him as possible. Right now, Sully's too busy thinking about the worth of this to care about the mechanics of how it's happening. Hell, right now, he doesn't even notice the temperature of the air around him!
...He also doesn't seem to notice the troubling puffs of ash coming from the volcano, potentially signalling an eruption. ]
