Adjusting to being in space doesn't seem all that different than adjusting to being several decades in the future. Just a lot more... vast. The important thing is that he's not completely alone, part of the team already there, and it's been a learning experience. Steve's been getting a feel for the planet too, what's to be expected of them while they're there - he doesn't want a repeat of what happened before he'd even shown up - and what there is to do. Which is how he meets Jane, having only caught a partial look at what she'd bought.
