[ This is hardly the first time that Snake has been captured, but that doesn't make him any more happy about it. He's confident he can get himself out of this mess in time, but he shouldn't have ended up here in the first place. Back on Shadow Moses had been one thing. Meryl had been in danger, and he'd needed to use himself as bait to have any hope of getting to her. But in this case he'd simply been ambushed and overpowered, and now he was paying the price for it.
He had known that a planet so well-off was too good to be true. There was always a seedy underbelly.
So here Snake is, thrown into a large room with the rest of the recruits who are going to be made to engage in some sick version of gladiatorial combat. Plenty of them are alien species that Snake knows nothing about, and that if nothing else has him nervous. "Know your enemy" is one the first rules of survival, and he's going in blind here.
There's a large cage in the middle of the room, the ring that he'll be placed in eventually. Overhead is a second level, catwalks from which those betting can have a full view of the arena. Snake doesn't expect anyone else to bail him out of this mess, so he's focused on scanning the room for potential escape routes. His hands are cuffed and his shirt has been removed (once again, he doesn't see what the point of that is, except maybe so any injures he gets are easier to notice), but he won't let that stop him from making a break for it. ]
