It's Event Time!
- December -

As of now, it's common knowledge to the crew that Tipota is dead. The manner of her death, however, is still being determined, and the other captains have sent another reminder through the MIDs to continue traveling in groups and not to wander around. The power issue has yet to be resolved, though it seems nothing is apparently wrong with the engines or the wings, but slowly, the chill begins to recede into something a little more tolerable—still cold but not freezing. The malfunctions that manifest aboard the Moira start to resemble a more systematic pattern, lights flickering in certain sections of the ship before shutting down in intervals of 30 to 60 seconds and coming to life again. It moves on through several areas, though it doesn't affect places with larger groups of people.

A day or two after the power begins to stabilize itself, everything comes to a standstill. There's a moment that seems as if time slows and stops. Things are eerily quiet... Anyone in the hallways will hear the lock of one of the I.L.R. release, security measures suspended to preserve life support functions. What had been a peaceful moment roars into chaos.

☄ Ploiatos
It's been here as long as anyone can remember. It lurks in the shadows, a human-shaped figure dressed in the tatters of a Moira uniform. In the dark, it feels the most comfortable, and its movements are impossible to pinpoint without the light. From a distance, it might appear to be someone you know, another crew member who's become lost in the corridors, but up close — well, no one actually knows what it looks like. At close proximity, it sinks itself into you, and the cold that has plagued the ship seems warm in comparison as the dark rises.

On the 18th, the event post will go up and tell of Ploiatos; there will be three prompts: together, alone, and bait & lure. For the first prompt, your character will wake up after being attacked by Ploiatos; you don't realize that it's there until you're waking up, the marks of its touch spreading across part of your body. These are permanent, a beacon to Ploiatos that it's had you once and only needs to get you once more to end it. Once will not kill you, but a second time will. Any attempt at contact via MID isn't likely as they momentarily short out within proximity to the creature.

The second prompt allows for two characters being confronted at the same time, but Ploiatos cannot decide who it wishes to attack and will retreat. There is always safety in numbers. Ploiatos is severely confused by the presence of more than one body, and though it's attracted to the particular emissions of the crew, it prefers the choice of one to two or more. Trying to hunt or capture it is impossible; it's gone as quickly as you can blink.

The third prompt, bait & lure has a sign-up post down below. It can't be killed or stopped, but anyone observing will notice that it is confused by too many people at once, which means that any character can choose to help usher Ploiatos into one of the rooms in section J of the ship. The sign-up shows who is going to be in that area of the ship to help do that, and on the night of the 16th we will be RNGing for which of the signed-up characters will give Ploiatos the final push and which one will lock the door.

This doesn't mean that only those characters can thread out fighting the creature off. Anyone who wants to be a part of it can be; the RNG'd folks will just have those specific roles. We'll PM out the information to those two. A captain's post, which will not be receiving any responses, will go up on the 18th to start the event off.

I hate to be That Guy, but if Wanda gets near this thing she's going to want to peek in its head to figure out what it is/what happened to it and if what happened to it could happen to the rest of the crew. Can she and if so, what will she see? If not, would it be okay if she's overwhelmed a la Ultron?

Can characters harm the Ploiatos or otherwise fight it off via combat? And how exactly does it attack them?

Seconding this question. Are there things that might work (or tragically/hilariously not work) against Ploiatos, especially once word has gone around and people arm themselves? (If there ends up being time for that?)

Yes, Wanda can peek into the Ploiatos's mind! It will not be fun for her at all, though due to the nature of the monster. If you'd like to pursue this line of plotting for her we can send you a PM tomorrow with all the horrid details that Wanda is going to see.

So building off of this-- characters definitely won't see it coming if they're alone? No chance that they'll be attacked and someone comes into the area to follow up on a noise/scream/whatever and cause Ploiatos to run off before damage is done?

I have kind of a weird, semi-related question to the build up to this event that I'm only just getting around to asking now bc I've been on a weird semi-hiatus: If Peridot had offered to help fix the power issue over the previous weeks, what kind of response would she have gotten from the captains? They haven't been answering any messages from the crew lately, right?

Just want to know so I can kind of add some flavor to deciding where she's going to be when this starts going down.

Oh man, poor Wanda. First the murderbot, now the horrible nightmare monster...

She's going to go for it, so I'll hold off on the later event plotting until I see how bad the damage will be. :3

It does, thank you! Likely she would have continued to pester them, demanding they give her more access to schematics and other ship info, and bellowing about how she could fix everything if they only let her :') So this gives me a pretty good idea of where she's at in terms of how ornery she's feeling about the state of things, by the time the event rolls around.

I guess I might as well ask! So I've been hoping for the excuse for Meh to interface with a computer at some point. Can she help hunt down a diagnosis for the ship's problems? (Even if she doesn't come across more information than that.)

Great new information here and up in the post -- thanks for the updates!

Not specifically, just useful to the particular plot at hand.

OK! So Ploiatus 1) can be seen but not described except for "tattered Moira uniform"; 2) "sinks into" victims in an attack too fast to be seen; 3) leaves permanent black-lightning scars after a successful attack; 4) kills at a second successful attack. Questions!
  • With Ploiatus emerging on the 18th, can it be assumed the ship gets less cold around the 15th and the power starts to stabilize between the 16th/17th?
  • Can the scars be removed when a dead character is restored? What about if the character loses a limb the scars are on?
  • Are they a souvenir or do they become plot-important again at all after this event?
  • When Ploiatus is contained, would the crew be reasonable in assuming containment doesn't mean the threat can't occur again?
  • Do attacked crewpeople see any captains in the medbay?
  • Now that word's gone out, if people message the captains asking why Tipota hasn't been revived like other crew members, will they get an answer or silence?
Aaaand that was a lot of questions but I'm really excited :)
