Welcome to the world of Namalos! For now, characters have a respite from the hazards of Avagi, although the limitations of this world (as well as the behavior of the locals) may encourage them to find a way back. But before we dive into more information on the current difficulties, we wanted to offer a quick summary of the circumstances surrounding the plot—both as an aid for new players and a recap for older ones.

Greetings!

Over the last week, many characters have discussed how (or whether) to investigate the distant life signs found by Wanda, Erik, and Flynn's Cerebro device. Others have concerned themselves with the increasing maintenance issues plaguing the station here and now. On February 10, this month's event will be getting underway with a discovery that concerns both interests: a cascading set of system failures that requires resources from elsewhere in Avagi to repair.

The Crisis

The arrival of the player characters—both from Thisavrou and the portals—has placed a strain on previously-inactive systems. While sizeable steps have been taken to fix or improve the lived-in spaces, Life Support has always maintained a more delicate balance, kept working as much by taskbot functions as by the few individuals who've taken up the job.

On February 10, this balance will tip toward the worse. The barely-visible mold emerging from the vents will give way to a torrent of dark smoke: airborne toxins released as the filtration systems fail. Short-term efforts toward repair will require a full reset of station power, and once shut down, key systems will have difficulty coming back online. This will affect heat, air quality, and electricity through the entire local area.

Over the next couple days, in-depth investigating can reveal the fault. To retain a breathable environment, Avagi's systems filter and store toxins: both those created naturally by its inhabitants and the more hazardous byproducts of power generation. Normally, these chemicals would be removed or purified—and systems for both do exist within the station. But the storm outside has prevented venting out to space for the last three centuries, and Avagi's purification modules rely on the presence of a rare crystal: once, imported from the nearby planet of Kauto, and currently... run out.

Stay or Go?

If a more numerous group has stayed alive elsewhere on Avagi, these problems must be ones they've overcome. More, investigation into Sanitation's backstock reveals shelves empty of not just the vital crystals, but the containers they were kept in. At some point in the past few centuries, someone removed these items from this region—presumably, for use elsewhere. It stands to reason that these hidden neighbors might have the answer to your problems.

So who's going to reach out?

At minimum, the journey will take several days, making it advisable to send a larger group. However, many people may be reluctant to leave their homes unguarded. While the purification crystals will be needed to provide a longterm fix, smaller efforts at repair can make a difference in the shorter term: both in securing liveable spaces for those who choose not to travel and in that ensuring vital spaces like the Greenery survive.

While we are not requiring formal signups, we do encourage players to think carefully about whether their characters would stay or go. Both the home and away teams will face different challenges as things intensify, and after February 20th, it will become impossible to change groups. To reiterate: while travel between teams will be possible for the first week or so of journeying, both groups will be physically cut off from one another after that point. The character base will reunite in March.

Upcoming Dangers

Those who choose to stay will do so under extremely difficult conditions. Those who travel will (of course!) be encountering their own. The explosion that tore apart the Ingress Complex didn't just vent most of its inhabitants into the void. It let the void in. The energy-draining storm that surrounds Avagi has penetrated wide swaths of the interior, and a several-day journey will stretch out considerably longer as characters work to circumnavigate the lethal zones. More, proximity to the storm can have unfortunate effects on even the most cautious.

If you are interested in signing up your character for a storm effect, comment at the header below.

More details on both sets of experiences will be provided with the log. The player characters are neither the only ones to live on Avagi nor the only ones to travel through its halls, and they may come across signs of those who've come before them. They will also encounter much more dangerous hazards.

On February 20, a discovery will be made that poses a severe danger to both the home and away teams. While information on this threat won't be publicly posted until the second log, we are looking for volunteers willing to accept a character death for a unique role in kicking off this portion of the plot. If you would like to volunteer your character, comment here. While not strictly necessary for the plot to proceed, we feel these volunteers could add significantly to the experience.

If you have any questions, drop them off for us below! This is meant to function as an OOC post for both logs in the event, and we encourage players to make their own plotting comments as well. The first log will be posted in two days, on February 10.

Late in the evening of the local calendar's equivalent to June 26, characters who work at or are passing through the Ingress Complex may have noticed a sudden tremor, a flickering of the lights and a pause in the regular background noise of the Ingress itself, leaving only silence rather than the usual very quiet hum. After approximately fifteen minutes, things returned to normal. During this stretch of time, especially perceptive characters on the planets below could have observed a sudden change to the swirling patterns of the storm surrounding Thisavrou.

These occurrences were due to the unauthorized intrusion of Neriel Lavellan and Marian Hawke and a magical altercation that took place inside the complex but outside of the shielded area where newcomers arrive when they first come through the Ingress. As this NPC post indicates, authorities are not very happy with this!

Both Lavellan and Hawke have been detained for the moment. As for the Ingress itself, as of this morning, outbound transit through the Ingress is off-limits. Characters who are in other worlds will be allowed to return, but no one will be allowed to depart Thisavrou. This partial travel ban will be in effect for the remainder of June. (If this conflicts with any late-month plotting you had planned, just leave us a comment below, and we'll work something out!) Despite this, everything in the complex appears to be functioning normally...but keep an eye on the sky, won't you?

Hi everyone! Sue here again. I promise this will be the last OOC post of this crazy plot! This post is to explain the outcome of the player vote and what effects it will have on Earth 91c and the visiting characters.

The vast majority of participating players voted to have the mystery device returned to Atarah, which means one way or another, she’s getting it back. Shortly after Atarah regains the item, a strange phenomenon will be reported by CCOA ambassador Daniel Wright on the network: several Created have gone missing in the past couple of days alone and unusual “property damage” has been reported. Because these strange events coincide with the prolonged presence of the PCs, the CCOA is calling for all foreign visitors to report to their headquarters for questioning. Until they find out who is responsible, no one will be allowed to leave Earth 91c. Any characters attempting to return to Thisavrou will be stopped by armed guards blocking their way to the Ingress.

Characters have a few options here: they can fight their way through to the Ingress, sneak past the guards, or, if they have any knowledge about prior plot events, they can cooperate with the investigation and help reveal the true orchestrators of the disappearances. Any characters who provide useful information will be allowed to leave. If necessary, characters can also call on their friends to rescue them from CCOA custody and smuggle them out through the Ingress.

Whatever the final outcome, once all PCs have left Earth 91c, they will not be able to return. The way to Earth 91c through the Ingress will be closed indefinitely. For OOC reasons, all characters must have escaped/departed by June 26th so handwave what you need in order to make sure your character GTFOs in time!

Thank you all for participating in this plot! I’ve really enjoyed being part of it! ^^ If you have any questions, feel free to drop them below!

Hi everyone!

This is Sue. Thank you to everyone who’s participated in this player plot so far! I’ve been having a great time planning this and keeping up with all your threads and plots. Now, things are finally coming to a head on Earth 91c which means it’s time for a player vote to decide how things shake out for the planet and the characters currently on it!

A SUMMARY
After arriving on Earth 91c, a few players may have heard whispers of a murder that took place a couple of weeks before their arrival. Said murder involved a Created killing two humans in broad daylight. An anonymous post to the network later purported that the Created involved, a Program named Kess, had likely been hacked in an unknown way that caused her to lash out in violence. It also included a video of the incident that showed Kess making a strange, rumbling sound during the attack.

Player investigation revealed that Calla, a Program who works in the Gardens entertainment venue, was also hacked shortly before the incident. He described two Creators placing a hexagonal object on his back that caused him to feel agitated and sick, before they were driven off by a good samaritan. Though he himself does not feel compelled towards violence, he was notably left with an audio glitch similar to that which was heard from Kess in the recorded video. (Thanks L, Tex, and Cayde-6 for their investigation!)

While all this was going on, a group of characters were contracted by Atarah, the leader of a group of rogue Created operating out of Rook Manufacturing. Atarah hired these characters to retrieve an object of “symbolic significance” that had been stolen from Rook Manufacturing by anti-Created zealots. The contracted characters Liquid Snake, Cayde-6, Samuel Drake, and Vetra Nyx were chosen to carry out a raid on June 22nd to retrieve the object—an object that, as it turns out, matches the description that Calla gave of the object used to edit him, and likely Kess.

Given its potential to turn normally docile Programs into indiscriminate killers, this object is undeniably dangerous in anyone’s hands. The question is, what should be done with it?

THE VOTE
This is an OOC vote, meaning that your character is not voting ICly, and they don’t necessarily know all the information given above. You can vote based on what your character would do if they did know the above information, or you can vote based on what outcome you as a player believe would be the most interesting. However, if you would like your character to get involved in any of these outcomes (for example, if they would feel strongly enough about their chosen option to steal the object from those who would do otherwise), then feel free to contact me at this account or on Plurk at [plurk.com profile] crimsonxiphos and I’ll see what I can do to throw them into the mix. Below is a list of potential options you might consider voting for; simply comment below with your choice. The outcome will be announced on June 22nd so be sure to vote while you can!

1. RETURN THE OBJECT TO ATARAH: Dangerous or not, the object belongs to Atarah. As the leader of a faction that provides a safe haven to free Created, she can be trusted to use it to resist Earth 91c’s system of AI slavery.

2. HAND THE OBJECT OVER TO THE CCOA: This object is a danger to everyone who lives on Earth 91c and must be given to those who can be trusted to destroy it. Whatever one’s feelings on the Creator/Created divide, violence is not the answer.

3. KEEP THE OBJECT: This thing sounds sick as hell and you want to volunteer your character to try and get their paws on it and bring it back to Thisavrou.

4. SOMETHING ELSE? Feel free to vote for alternatives to the options above!

Hi everyone! This is Sue, and I hope you guys get a kick out of my player plot! As you can probably tell, there’s a lot of stuff going on on Earth 91c, so I thought I’d sum up some of the stuff your character can get into and provide a place to improve your chances of getting involved in the log’s events and characters.

First of all, besides exploring the general setting of Earth 91c, there are a couple of subplots your characters can get involved in. One is a murder mystery involving the killing of two humans by a Program named Kess at a political rally. There’s already some information in the log itself about this terrible crime and there will be more clues and investigation opportunities unfolding in the next few days. In addition, a group of renegade Created operating out of the Manufacturing District are seeking mercenaries for a special retrieval/raid job, as described under the “Missions Available” of the event log. Characters interested in participating can sign up below. If selected, they’ll have an opportunity to help the Created of Earth 91c and maybe make some money along the way.

Hope y’all enjoy the event, and feel free to ask any questions you may have here!

Sign up for Atarah encounter/raid: Burgling the Burglars

In the log for this event, you may have noticed that Atarah, the Program leader of the underworld faction operating out of Rook Manufacturing is searching for what amounts to mercenaries who want to help the Programs of Eastgate. The job she has in mind is a retrieval mission that will involve taking back an object of extreme importance from a violently anti-Program group that has stolen it. She promises riches to any who can bring the object back to her intact. If you would like to participate in this raid, PM Atarah’s journal with your characters’ names and what they would do to convince Atarah that they are the right person for the job (i.e, perform well in the arena, give an awesome speech about Created rights, do a cool magic trick, etc). Note that sign-ups for the raid close on June 18th at which point those chosen will be notified and given the names of their party-members, linked to closed top-level for threading purposes, and told what they will find while on the raid. Also note that, while those who go on the raid will be the ones rewarded by Atarah for the return of the object, what is ultimately done with it will be decided by a game-wide vote.

Sign-up for Calla encounter: What’s in a name?

In the encrypted message posted to the network, the writer mentions someone by the name of Calla before their message is cut off. Besides this name, it is also known that this “Calla” is male, judging by the pronoun used directly afterwards. From this information and the information given in the player plot log, it is possible to deduce where Calla can be found, what manner of being he is, and what he looks like. If you would like to increase your character’s chances of encountering Calla, PM the account [personal profile] creatorequal with any conclusions/guesses you have about his location and identity, whether you want your character to have figured it out ICly or not (if not, Calla will approach them coincidentally), and a link to the top-level/log you would like to be tagged if you already have one up. Those who guess correctly will be guaranteed an encounter with Calla. These signups will be open until the night of June 9th, at which point Calla will begin tagging based on RNG and correct deductions.
