Ingress travel can be disorienting, but there’s no need to worry! All side effects are temporary and lessen with each trip. Your body may experience several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You may have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. You notice that the area you are in is filled with a soft cerulean light and feels slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you. Regardless of your current state, however, the stress of initial Ingress travel forces your body into unconsciousness.

Waking up is another story. Or maybe it isn’t.

You find yourself in a nondescript room; sometimes with others who have found themselves in the same situation, sometimes alone. A medical tech is always present to explain what’s happened before giving you some clothes, a TAB, and a guide that discusses things in further detail. This entire process also consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health in order to obtain your signature—a specific frequency that will allow them to hone in on exactly where it is you’re from in order to get you back there. You spend your first week on the Ingress Complex while other accommodations and arrangements are made for you.

phanos

⋆ Phanos is classified as Exploration Class (EC) and is open to all travelers. The dry heat on the planet is overwhelming, but it's important that as many people as possible visit so that scientists can track down the origin of a strong signal pulsing somewhere on the planet. Its frequency indicates that if it is found, Ingress engineers may be able to hone in on people's signatures to send them home. However, frequent dust storms on the planet's surface are causing interference. It is strongly advised that investigators visit in groups—and keep their mouths closed!

⋆ Between dust storms, at the ege of the sandy plains, travelers will notice a series of pyramid-like structures. The smallest ones are just a few feet high, and the largest reach as high as ten-story buildings. Those who press on will find the terrain more difficult, as they must trek through increasingly dense clusters of pyramids of all sizes. Eventually, the pyramid 'forest' clears to reveal the largest pyramid of all, the size of a small mountain. Its peak is guarded by nests of griffin-like creatures which are no larger than a medium-sized dog. Those with combat skills should be in no danger, unless a whole nest attacks at once!

⋆ Multiple stone doors built into the top of the pyramid lead into a surprising space: a sleek lab, filled with incredibly advanced technology. Scientists, engineers and techies could happily spend years studying the equipment and deciphering the data it contains. But in the darkest corners, there's a quiet chittering...are the travelers really alone?

[ the name 'Solid Snake' attached to a somewhat cryptic message. mysterious, indeed. it could very easily be a coincidence. stranger things had happened (hell, stranger things are happening). but, given what he's seen so far, the likelihood of that is... negligible at this point.

he knows he's at a disadvantage here. so he chooses his next words carefully, not wanting to reveal too much.

Ocelot prefers to lay out his plans more carefully than this, but he has been known to improvise when need be. ]

If nothing else, Clarke did have solid ideas about A.I. [ more than most people knew. ]

Yeah? Can't say that anything's really going to surprise me.

[ If it were up to Snake, there wouldn't be any name attached to his messages. He doesn't enjoy the lack of anonymity, but he's learned to live with it because apparently there's no way around it. Or if there is, he hasn't figured it out. One of many reasons he wishes Otacon was here, although having Ocelot around makes him second-guess that.

Ocelot may have behaved himself well enough the last time, but Big Boss had been around and had done the dirty work himself. Snake's not convinced it's going to go so easily this time, especially if Ocelot knows who he is.

It doesn't seem like he's older, though, so that's one small blessing.

Dr. Clark, though? The mention grabs Snake's interest, but it shouldn't surprise him that Ocelot played some part in what happened to Gray Fox. Which muddles up what time he might be from, too. Great. ]

Ideas might be solid. It doesn't mean they're going to lead anywhere good.

And you might find that you're wrong about that. Space has a way of flipping everything you know upside-down.

[ If there's one person that it's impossible to unbalance, though, it's probably Ocelot. ]

[ thankfully, Ocelot isn't referring to that Dr. Clark (even if he does happen to be familiar more than familiar with her, and knowing her, she'd have probably enjoyed the movie partially based on Clarke's work). ]

You might be surprised, but I agree with you. In the end, that A.I. almost killed everyone on the ship.

[ just like something else that was going to try and reshape the world according to its own soulless programming. ]

Funny. I'd always thought that in space, there was no direction. That you could float any which way, and it'd all be the same.

[ though truthfully, he was probably more unbalanced than he'd been in years. but, no one ever needed to know that. ]
soldiergenes: (out of your bad dreams)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2017-06-21 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Not the same Dr. Clark, then. Good thing Snake didn't say anything of substance about that. Ocelot must be referring to a book or a movie, then. ]

It might sound like fiction to you, but just about anything is possible out here.

[ This, coming from someone who thought he'd more or less seen it all. Snake had been proved wrong on that ten times over since he first arrived on the Moira.

Ocelot's playing it cool and making light of everything so far, but Snake can guess that he's uncomfortable with the situation and how little he understands about what's happening. Again, Snake will enjoy having the upper hand for once, at least when it comes to information. ]

There's a lot about space you probably don't know. Hope you're adaptable.

[ Of course, Snake already knows that Ocelot is absolutely adaptable, but he doesn't need to let on that they've met. ]
shashka: (you don't say...)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-06-22 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ if there's one thing Ocelot has learned in all his years as a spy, it's to never let your opponent know when you're off your game. it was plainly obvious that he couldn't trust whoever this "solid snake" was (though he could list the people he genuinely trusted on one hand). ]

Well, it's a good thing that I learn quickly, now isn't it?

[ he still gets the distinct feeling that this mysterious stranger knows more than he's letting on. ]

By the way, nice name.

[ but he'll play this game. ]
soldiergenes: (and i don't wanna be a proud man)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2017-06-28 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It was only a matter of time before Ocelot made some sort of comment about his name. Snake can't guess at whether or not he's already touched base with people like Ahab and Miller to get a hold on his situation. He's going to find out one way or another, but Snake isn't going to make it easy on his end of things.

While he doubts he'll have truly be able to get under Ocelot's skin, he can certainly try. ]

You think so? I'm not sure Snakes and Ocelots really get along.
shashka: (senpai notice me)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-07-03 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[ a faint smile passes over his lips. so that was how it was going to be, then? ]

Well, that entirely depends on the Snake, now doesn't it?
soldiergenes: (you know not what is in store)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2017-07-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess it does.

[ It's a purposefully noncommittal answer. He doesn't need to give away any more. ]

Just how many do you know?
shashka: (model swaps with quiet are in)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-07-03 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ now there's some obvious bait if he ever saw it. did this "Snake" take him for a complete amateur? or, was he expecting an evasive answer to give him the information that he wanted?

questions upon questions. ]

I've met a few in my time. Some of them have even been pretty good.

[ but with Eli going by "liquid snake", it seemed obvious that this Snake might just be one of two men. or rather, one of two boys. ]
soldiergenes: (and another has not)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2017-07-10 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ A few. It's not a specific enough answer, though Snake hadn't expected to find out everything he wanted to know over a text conversation. He'd learn more if he agreed to meet Ocelot in person, or even if he switched to a video call, but he isn't willing to do that.

Really, he should pull away from this before he plays his hand more than he already has. Talking with Ocelot always feel a little like walking over hot coals. ]

Well, there's at least one here who'll want to know that you've shown up. Not sure about any others.

[ Venom's bound to find Ocelot before long. ]
shashka: (birthday cigars)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-07-17 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ fascinating. absolutely fascinating. ]

Oh, I'm sure I'll find my way to them in due time.

[ it's not a threat, not exactly. but he knows that they all likely have information he needs. pieces of a puzzle.

and he'd eventually put it all together. ]
soldiergenes: (then i'll go out back)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2017-07-28 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
You sure about that? They're pretty good at hiding.

[ It's unlikely that Snake will respond after this message, if only to make a point. He isn't going to seek Ocelot out if he can avoid it, and steering clear of him seems like the best option for now.

Ahab and Miller are bound to give him some information, but Snake would rather not add to that. ]
