Ingress travel can be disorienting, but there’s no need to worry! All side effects are temporary and lessen with each trip. Your body may experience several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You may have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. You notice that the area you are in is filled with a soft cerulean light and feels slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you. Regardless of your current state, however, the stress of initial Ingress travel forces your body into unconsciousness.

Waking up is another story. Or maybe it isn’t.

You find yourself in a nondescript room; sometimes with others who have found themselves in the same situation, sometimes alone. A medical tech is always present to explain what’s happened before giving you some clothes, a TAB, and a guide that discusses things in further detail. This entire process also consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health in order to obtain your signature—a specific frequency that will allow them to hone in on exactly where it is you’re from in order to get you back there. You spend your first week on the Ingress Complex while other accommodations and arrangements are made for you.

phanos

⋆ Phanos is classified as Exploration Class (EC) and is open to all travelers. The dry heat on the planet is overwhelming, but it's important that as many people as possible visit so that scientists can track down the origin of a strong signal pulsing somewhere on the planet. Its frequency indicates that if it is found, Ingress engineers may be able to hone in on people's signatures to send them home. However, frequent dust storms on the planet's surface are causing interference. It is strongly advised that investigators visit in groups—and keep their mouths closed!

⋆ Between dust storms, at the ege of the sandy plains, travelers will notice a series of pyramid-like structures. The smallest ones are just a few feet high, and the largest reach as high as ten-story buildings. Those who press on will find the terrain more difficult, as they must trek through increasingly dense clusters of pyramids of all sizes. Eventually, the pyramid 'forest' clears to reveal the largest pyramid of all, the size of a small mountain. Its peak is guarded by nests of griffin-like creatures which are no larger than a medium-sized dog. Those with combat skills should be in no danger, unless a whole nest attacks at once!

⋆ Multiple stone doors built into the top of the pyramid lead into a surprising space: a sleek lab, filled with incredibly advanced technology. Scientists, engineers and techies could happily spend years studying the equipment and deciphering the data it contains. But in the darkest corners, there's a quiet chittering...are the travelers really alone?

Except I was perfectly fine with where I was already. Not so much of a decent home when you'd rather be anywhere but there.

[Yeah, he's never going to appreciate that, no matter what. But that's in the past, bitter as he still is about everything in the past, and dwelling on it too hard is just more likely to make him angrier.

He's actually managed to keep that sort of thing to a minimum, lately.]

Obviously. Made it to adulthood, even. I suppose that was probably unexpected. And now here I am. Funny how things work, hm?

I take it you haven't been here long?

Kids always think they know what's best for themselves. Most of the time, they manage to outgrow it. Or, they just grow up into stubborn adults.

[ at that next question, a smirk passes over his lips (not that Eli can see it). ]

Long enough to be homesick.

[ vague, as always. he doesn't need to know anything more concrete than that. John had told him to treat the children just as he would anyone else.

and he intends to make good on that promise. ]

I never really got much of a chance to be a kid. Did all my growing up early, but no one seems to understand that when you're not very tall.

[He is definitely one of the ones who grew up into a stubborn adult.]

Well, welcome to space. At least you've made it to the bit where we've actually got a planet for our home away from home. Some of us were on a spaceship for quite some time.

[Sometimes, it's still weird not being on it, with how long he'd been on the crew.]
shashka: (snake no)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-06-20 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say you managed, in your own way.

[ surprisingly, Ocelot could relate. as a young man, he'd been exceedingly stubborn and arrogant, and while he had mellowed somewhat with age, those traits were still there, lurking underneath the surface.

he does have some other questions that he'd really love to ask Eli. unfortunately, however, he's positive that all of them would give away too much. ]

Lucky me.

I always do.

[Even when dying is involved, apparently. He's just that stubborn.]

It was a bit exciting, never knowing whether you'd land on that planet just fine or come crashing down. Always had the element of potentially horrifying surprise.
shashka: (you're a failure)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-06-21 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ a flicker of a smile passes over Ocelot's face. that almost sounded like something he might say.

(though he imagines if he told Eli that, he'd be none too thrilled. it was tempting, but he wasn't feeling quite that petty just yet) ]

You always did like adventure, didn't you? Must've been thrilling to have a chance to get out of "his" shadow.

[ ...or maybe he was that petty. ]

[If looks could kill... Liquid's TAB would be a melted hunk of whatever it's made of.]

Unpleasant as ever, hm? I'm sure you'll be THRILLED to hear that "he" was on the ship for a while before making acquaintance with nonexistence.

[Take that, hmph.]
shashka: (god miller shut up)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-06-22 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ if he's shaken at all by the new information, he's grateful that this conversation is entirely over text.

...still, that is fascinating information. ]

Is that so?

A shame your temper hasn't diminished with age. Word of advice: never let anyone know your weaknesses.

[ it really is genuine advice. ]
saveyourserpent: (heh)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2017-06-22 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[He is so not giving out his weaknesses!!!]

Oh, I don't even know what you mean. My temper is just fine.

Either way, good riddance.
shashka: (model swaps with quiet are in)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-06-24 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
[ keep telling yourself that, Eli. one day, it might even be true. ]

You sure about that? Because from where I'm sitting, I can almost hear you seething.
saveyourserpent: (glare)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2017-06-24 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, he's telling himself that. He's telling himself that so hard.]

You might want to get your ears checked, then.
shashka: (birthday cigars)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-06-25 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
It was only friendly advice, Eli. No need to take offence.
saveyourserpent: (dramatic)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2017-06-25 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
You might want to get your advice checked as well.
shashka: (you don't say...)

[personal profile] shashka 2017-06-26 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Eli are you sure that you're not actually 12? ]

I suppose some things never change.

[ this is why you're not high up on his lists of "favourite snakes" ]
saveyourserpent: (judge)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2017-06-27 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Some people... mature differently than others.]

They do where it counts. But sometimes, yes, things never change.

[SO TAKE THAT OCELOT. He's never been the favorite Snake, anyway. He's used to it.]
