Network Organization/plot post

Alright folks, this is a call for tech-minded characters. I asked the mods about it here, initially regarding Flynn's initial forays, and have touched base with a few more people regarding a fix.

Flynn will be quite upfront about not having the skill to handle this behemoth on his own, and intends to reach out to others, so, here's where you come in!

If your character has experience building, repairing, modding tech stuff or has a skill set that can help get the Avagi network up and running, then please feel free to tag in here, let us know who they are, and what they can do. This is also a place to plot if you'd like to thread anything with your fellow tech brosises, or handwave anything.

Any questions, please let me know too. I'm not...that great with technology myself lol so I'll do my best.

Straight up: L was the longtime head of the network department in the game that he's CRAU'd from and was involved with it for something like a year and a half before he actually took the reins. Somewhat after his pull point from that game, he was sort of ICly obligated to design a new network from the ground up with remaining resources, and I was OOCly obligated to make it make technical sense under the strictures of the setting (honestly, much more sense than it has to make here -- the technical strictures were tight and I spent a lot of time talking about solar panels and how high routers needed to be mounted in old growth trees -- it was A Time).

He hasn't been involved with it as much in this game simply because it's not where he was originally assigned (he was an intelligence officer, then very briefly Head of Tower on the Moira), then started his own business on Kauto that was more in the direction of his canon occupation -- he did do some stuff with Alan briefly around the time of the slavery plot, to help triangulate the locations of missing characters. But spy and detective stuff is not really currently feasible.

So, while I've been sick since the new stuff went up and haven't really had the opportunity to do anything with it, this is something I would like to get him involved in! At this point, he has a ton of both hardware and software experience and also experience working specifically with alien tech on communications systems via reverse engineering and so on. What he doesn't really do is building hardware from the ground up -- he's more used to hacking existing components and software and security.

That said, he would not be interested in spearheading this kind of project, and neither am I. But participating in it is pretty much the natural direction for him in this setting as it stands, so I'm looking forward to working on it with the other interested parties.

YO I HEARD WE WERE DOING A SCIENCE

Tony will be interested in helping with this for sure, because life without a network is hell. He's good with both the hardware and software portions and would be willing to help with any of the physical/mechanical grunt work OR programming that needs to be done, but his real point of interest will probably be network security. He'll want to make sure they're good and shielded from external threats on the grounds that he's not convinced they don't still have enemies out there. TRUST NO ONE.

So he'd definitely help with getting the network up, but he'll make himself truly obnoxious about making sure it's secure once it IS up. He's good with as much collab as necessary to get it done, so if anyone wants to thread anything I'm super down, but handwaving is always fine too!!

Let's be security bros, Tony Tony Tony.

(as soon as I come back I've been meaning to hit his prompts up in last week's log!)

Erik is interested! The actual like, circuit boarding and coding or whatever on the more software side of this probably isn't the best use of his talents. He's a really good engineer but his understanding of tech is whatever was cutting edge in 1983. Although he's also very technically minded so he could probably pick it up with enough time to study.

His best use would be more in the hardware, I think. Repairing broken parts, figuring out replacements for things that are irreparable. As long as it's metal, that is. Anything silicon or plastic he'd not be much help lol. Other than suggesting alloys to replace the silicon or plastic because he has Opinions about such things.

Cayde will just popcorn at y'all but if you need someone to like, run down to the far end of the accessible areas of the station to test comm signals for if they're picking up or whatever then someone can tell him to do so. But the bulk of the technical work will probably be better handled by his Ghost. It's no stranger to getting centuries old equipment and tech to work, and being something between technical and supernatural, it can help access things internally by directly interacting with the systems in question, or help give technical readouts.

she'll mostly be working with hardware, as programming isn't her strong suit

Kirk is said to have a pretty high IQ and an above average understanding of engineering so while he won't be able to solve this issue on his own by any means, he can certainly lend a hand and give input on things he's known to work with the tech from his own world. He's also not adverse to crawling around under floors or through walls if it requires rewiring and repairs and whatnot.

Don't mind handwaving stuff or playing it out tho I'm no engineering genius so fudging and glossing details may occur.

Peter is up for it! He's no Tony Stark but he's canonically pretty skilled at retrograde technology and converting systems that shouldn't be compatible, so I think he's at least a pretty decent hardware guy for you at this point. That's what Ravagers do, they just patch things together and make them work, so he's fairly familiar with different types of tech (even more modern things that his obsession with bad, old music players kind of masks).

I assume, given that he's technically coming from a criminal background that he's familiar enough with privacy programming/software and stuff as well, but I def think the hardware is more where his expertise here is.

Yori's not a tech expert, she's more of a data analyst, but she's learned enough in various places to be a useful pair of hands and would like to help out! I'm sure once the experts figure out the best solution, there'll be a lot of reworking still to get through.

She was working with the Savrii as an Ingress technician and picking up what she could along the way, so she might be somewhat familiar with the Ingress Complex bits that go into all this.

HEY FRIENDS.

Ratchet is a dyed in the wool engineer. He's had no formal training (so it might be fun for him to learn a thing or two from the more academically learned engineers/programmers), but he's been working on this kin of thing since he was a kid with a biological knack for it vis-à-vis his species. His area of expertise is wiring and hardware. Give him gruntwork like stripping wires (he'll complain, but he'll do it... probably) or have him take on some actually difficult projects that require a conceptual bent, he's the kind of engineer that will try a lot of different things that might be outside the realm of efficiency but might also open unforeseen doors. His programming code is messy af to someone who has actually been taught how to do it, but that's it's own sort of fun. What, you don't name your programming variables over cute girls? whatever.

He's also had a separate project on board the ship where he's been modifying existing taskbots and reworking their programming/hardware for various purposes. If given direction with this project, he might focus in that freeform experimenting to a staff of taskbots that can run routine maintenance on the completed network? Might be fun!

But basically, I'm pretty open to anything, I just really want to get Ratchet involved in things more his skill-set, and feeling like he's helping in some way!

Nova's a programmer and used to write apps for Arc I's network devices, as well as getting into the Savrii's systems at the end of Arc II. Once the hardware's running she'd be good for writing the comms software.

MID technician was his actual nominal job in Arc I. (Although, for some strange reason, people were hesitant forking over.) If you wanted a crash course on the interface devices, he's only too happy to assist.

Nihlus is more specialized with tech on the hardware side. Before becoming a Spectre, he was a military sapper for the Hierarchy. Post-arrival to this universe, he worked as an engineer aboard the Moira all the way until it crash landed on the Midway Hub.

That said, he definitely knows his programming as well and has used the skills extensively in instances that called for hacking or programming entirely new software. He's also resolved cross-platform compatibility between his Omni-tool and general Sav tech.

He is currently working full-time trying to map out everything down in Life Support and Sanitation, but he is very willing to come up and help out.

Alan was a professional computer programmer in his canon, specializing in digital security systems. He also wrote a couple of programs for the MIDs in Arc I and has been researching AI since mid-Arc II, so he has some knowledge of "futuristic" technology. He'll probably be sticking to general structuring rather than security, however. He's still uncomfortable with the prospect of coding security programs after he found out that the ones he coded earlier were literally actually killing people OTL
