October Test Drive

Multiversal travel can be disorienting, but there’s no need to worry! All side effects are temporary and lessen with each trip. Your body may experience several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You may have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer dizziness while others are perfectly fine. You notice that the area you are in is filled with a soft cerulean light and feels slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you. Regardless of your current state, however, the stress of transit forces your body into unconsciousness.

Waking up is another story. Or maybe it isn’t.

You find yourself in a nondescript room; sometimes with others who have found themselves in the same situation, sometimes alone. Welcome to Avagi Station, your new home.

Avagi

A fixer upper opportunity:
Welcome to your new home! It’s a bit rough around the edges but it could be so much worse. Or that’s what you thought until you walked to your housing level and found the bathroom floating under three inches of water as a pipe gushes water. That’s definitely not what those pipes should be doing, you should probably try and get that fixed before your entire level is flooded. Who knows what sort of chaos all that water will play with Avagi’s support systems. Do you call for help or is someone going to find you trying to play amateur plumber with a roll of tape?

Are you afraid of the dark?:
There are different types of darkness that one has to deal with when they're living in space. There's the dim lighting of rarely used corridors, the shadows that lurk wherever they can find a place to hide. And you must never forget the swirling blackness of the storm that surrounds Avagi. Today you're dealing with a darkness you've been warned to expect. Some of your fellow residents are overhauling the electrical systems on board and told everyone that there was a chance there could be randomized blackouts.

The lights blink out without a sound, plunging you into darkness. Your eyes take a while to adjust and when they do everything seems a bit more… sinister. Sound travels differently in the dark, the quietest scratches and bumps echo louder in your ears and--

What was that ? Did that sound come from nearby? Did something just touch your leg? Maybe you should find someone before you get more paranoid. If it is paranoia, anyways.

Jeepers Creepers...:
The blackouts continue, spreading beyond isolated sections until they’re taking over entire blocks of the station and plunging everything into a more pervasive darkness. Wherever it spreads, a faint odor accompanies it along with a sudden burst of paranoia as everything seems more intense and slightly blurry at the same time. When the lights snap on the feeling of disorientation worsens and you struggle to focus when an intercom crackles to life blaring a warning you can barely understand. All you know is that something is wrong. And even worse, you know without a doubt that something, someone is coming to hurt you. As you see figures approaching, faces a blur of inhumanity marred by a mask to hide their identites you do the only thing you can in your panic.

You run.

Hopefully someone will be able to catch you and get you to clear air before you find a weapon and decide to stand your ground against them.

[A Fixer Upper Opportunity]
Shit shit shit shit shit

[ Ok. Water. Big problem. But Kelly Ann's the person people get when there's problems, right? And she's supposed to fix them before Bill or Shelli--

They're not here.

Don't think about it. Just fix the problem.

She grabs a towel and ties it around the pipe. It doesn't solve the problem, but it at least slows it down. She starts looking for something that could possibly seal it up. ]

God dammit I'm a rigger not a plumber!

[Are You Afraid of the Dark?]
[ There isn't a lot of good that Kelly Ann can do around the station. There's nothing in her skill set that is useful, So she does scut work in the med bay. The rolling blackouts are creepy. Kelly Ann just starts closing her eyes and humming to herself whenever the weird clicking that preceded them starts. The first time, nothing touchs her. Though she does feel the air move, as if something passed by very close. The second time, something brushes by her calf, like a cat in the dark. She flinches.

The third time, she feels it on the back of her neck. She spins and hits as hard as she can. ]

Stop. That. It's fucking creepy.

[Jeepers Creepers]
[ It's impossible to do anything in the med bay when it's plunged into complete darkness, so Kelly Ann starts slowly feeling her way back to somewhere that still has power.

After panicking over what was that she starts moving more cautiously. Every skitter and sigh of the complex makes her jump. But it makes weird sounds all the time, even when the lights are on.

She needs to calm the hell down.

She clears her throat and starts to sing. ]

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?

[ Her voice, tremulous and alone, echoes through the corridor as she sings, gradually gaining confidence as she goes. ]

|| Are you afraid of the dark? ||

[Of course C-3PO isn't. He's a droid, metal and circuitry through and through. The idea of anything lurking in the darkness can only run rampant in organic minds flush with this thing called an 'imagination.'

Unfortunately, he can't help but feel a bit apprehensive as he shuffles his way down the corridor, optics shining, inspecting the walls all too carefully for his own good.
]

It's much too dark! You'd think someone would consider calling maintenance–

[A subtle and distinct thump startles him, causing folded arms to twitch as they're held out in front of his golden body.]

W-what was that? Who's there? [His head swivels one way, then the other.] A-Artoo? Artoo, if that's you, I hardly find this funny! You come right out this instant...!

[A beat. Two beats.

Concern wavers within the droid's vocalizer.
]

...Oh dear...

Typical.

[The muttering sounds from down a hall that abruptly blinks out and settles into darkness, only momentarily lit, and quite dimly, by red accompanying the spoken word.]

None of this would have been happening if this were an Imperial station. I suppose I'll never get a break from this nonse-

[The mechanical shuffling pauses before AP-5 calls out.]

Hello? Is someone there? ...I hate it when I feel like I've done this before... Hello. If someone's there- well, I suppose it can't be helped without proper technicians...
we_re_doomed: (All Systems Have Been Alerted)

[personal profile] we_re_doomed 2017-10-20 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
A voice! [His arms go up, then fall back into place.] Someone's here, oh thank the Maker!

[Shuffle, shuffle, quick shuffle, turn. He calls back, waving his arms frantically for all of three seconds.]

Yes? Yes! Over here! I– [If he could squint, he would. Leaning forward a few centimeters has the same effect.] –I was hoping you were the technician!
inventoryconnoisseur: (Two negatives do not equal a positive)

[personal profile] inventoryconnoisseur 2017-10-20 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's a good thing I didn't attempt to get my hopes up...

[Because who else but droids use such a phrase? AP-5 steps over towards the voice, slowing to a stop once the dimly glowing optics come into view.]

No, I am not a technician, and obviously, neither are you. So that helps neither of us and leaves us no better off than when we've started.

Afraid of the Dark:

[Clara's learned not to fear the darkness. There's still sometimes where it bothers her, but she's not as afraid as she used to be. She used to need a hand to hold to move through pitch darkness, now she takes the time to appreciate her ability to go at it alone. That slight bit of appreciation is what keeps her from panic when the lights go out unannounced.

She's making her way through the corridors, attempting to learn the layout of her new home. With the lights out, exploring is near impossible. Add in the eerie sounds echoing about the area, and she's feeling on edge. She keeps moving forward, up until something hits her leg. Giving a startled yelp, she reacts by swinging that leg forward and kicking at whatever's there.

It's only after her foot comes in contact with someone or ends up ghosting through the air and causing her to stumble that she realizes someone else is lost in the darkness with her.
]

Does this happen often? Seems like we need to find a better energy source to keep things running properly.

Jeepers Creepers:

[It's probably not a great idea that Clara managed to wedge a steel pipe off part of the wall. Especially since her paranoia is running at an all time high, and she's very nearly just taken someone's head off after the lights switched back on. She isn't sure why she feels the way she does, all that she knows is that she's certain she's in danger. After running herself into a corner, her fight instinct kicks back in.

The feel of cool metal against her back as she wedges her way into a corner doesn't do much to calm her. Everything's still hazy, vision blurred as a figure approaches. She squeezes her eyes shut tight and swings her pipe. Her arms are trembling, just like the rest of her. She isn't going to be able to make accurate swings, and just ends up clutching the stupid pipe close to her chest. Whatever's there is edging in nearer. Being disoriented and trying to handle the fear that's consumed her is making her a little frustrated.
]

If someone takes a swing at your head, you don't move in closer!

–I beg your pardon?

[C-3PO doesn't stay offended for long, however. There are very few who can switch gears like so.]

Of course I am not a technician. I am a protocol droid, and it appears you happen to be one as well! [He waves a hand at the corridor.] And if not a technician, at least an astromech who can make themselves useful. Just look at this! I can hardly see where I am going.
inventoryconnoisseur: (What took you so long?)

[personal profile] inventoryconnoisseur 2017-10-20 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
[The AP-unit actually emits a sigh.]

Actually I am an analyst droid, although ever since the Republic's end I was demoted to inventory monitoring. Which really isn't that dreadful an occupation if only people would put things in their proper places.

And just where were you going? Given the condition of this station I'm amazed that anything still functions. Having an astromech available would either remedy or worsen the already rampantly existent problems.

[personal profile] we_re_doomed 2017-10-20 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Inventory? Goodness. Well, I suppose as long as one can do their job without having setbacks, it should all go smoothly...

[The golden droid then tilts his head from its thoughtful position, glancing back at AP-5.]

I was heading down this way, back to civilization. [He pauses, scuttling off to one side as he turns, arms following the motion.] I believe it was that way, anyway. But I do agree – astromechs do have a tendency to create a situation where there shouldn't be one.

–My goodness, wherever are my manners? I am C-3PO, human-cyborg relations.
inventoryconnoisseur: (I've got this designer restraining bolt)

[personal profile] inventoryconnoisseur 2017-10-20 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Calling any part of this place a "civilization" is being rather generous.

[He gestures vaguely with his own arm.]

Ah yes. At least protocol droids can be counted for such things. I am AP-5.

A pleasure, AP-5. Even if this isn't an ideal setting and all.

Arrival
[ Momo feels disoriented, confused. She comes to in a strange room, surrounded by strangers. This is... Something is wrong. She doesn't know where she is. She feels the urge to panic rising, but tries to keep a cool head. She's training to be a hero, isn't she? She should be able to adapt to unfamiliar situations. Doing her best to keep her voice from wavering, she clears her throat and speaks up. ]

Does anyone know where we are? What just happened?

Fixer Upper
[ Stopping the leak in her quarters is no big deal. She just manifests a wrench from her skin using her quirk and stops the flow of water. However, that does nothing to solve the several centimeters of water that have already spilled out and flooded her bathroom floor.

She opens the door out into the hallway, letting water spill out around her ankles, and looks for someone who might give her a hand. ]

Um... Excuse me? I have a bit of a flooding problem...

Afraid of the Dark?
[ By now, Momo is prepared for anything, so when the lights go out, she stops in place, unbuttons the top few buttons of her uniform shirt, and calls forth a flashlight from her chest. She then uses the flashlight to search for anyone who might be lost in the dark. ]

Hello? Is anyone there?

[True statement: when the lights die, with that pop hiss of bad electrics, Scott Lang is not a happy man. Also true statement: Scott was already not exactly sailing on the Good Ship Lollipop since he got here. Who knew you could miss San Quentin, right? He'd rather be there, with a nice safe cell and (sometimes) a cellie who was not a complete creep, than here.

Scott has one coping mechanism, a secret weapon in life, one that's gotten him so very far. Hey, it got him to hang out with the Avengers, right? That secret weapon is, of course, his wit.]

So, hey, nice place you got here. I like it. The ambiance, you know. Very....eldritch. [Okay, sometimes the wit works better than others.]

iii
[Listen, you. Scott Lang does not 'run'. Does he look like the type to run from terrifying faceless danger? No. No he does not. He looks like the type who RUNS SCREAMING from it. And he's not looking where he's going, so hey, you better watch crossing intersections or rounding corners, or you're going to get a face full of screaming Ant Man.]

[Clara also happens to be running, except she's carrying around a big old pipe with her. You never know when you may have to defend yourself. She rounds a corner and they run right into each other. He's tall and she's definitely not, so her face makes rough impact with his chest. She falls back, that metal pipe flying out of her hands and loudly crashing on the floor. She's dazed from the force of that collision, and is seeing stars as she blinks up at the dark ceiling.

She typically loves space and getting to explore space stations, but this one is starting to grate on her nerves. At least the panic she had been feeling was literally knocked right out of her.
]

Do you even know what it is you're running from?
inventoryconnoisseur: (-You're- a disappointment)

[personal profile] inventoryconnoisseur 2017-10-20 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
In case you hadn't realized, we are in the middle of nowhere. This station doesn't seem to be very ideally placed, and from what I've been told, lacking in transportation. We are effectively marooned.

You're correct in that much, at least. This is hardly an ideal setting. We are hardly getting anything done by standing here in the dark, either. Might I suggest we relocate ourselves to somewhere with functional electrical systems?

[Hey, the screaming was supposed to act like a siren, you know? Get out of the way, emergency Ant Man coming through!

Guess not. ]

Well, I didn't stop to get its name or anything, but I was definitely getting some kind of horror movie vibe. You know, Wes Craven horror. Not, like, Sharknado.

[Clearly he has done research. On horror movies at any rate.]

[He says something that makes her laugh, even as she slowly sits up and starts to rub at the back of her head. There's a knot there, a nice tender spot that makes her wince as she touches at it.]

You're from Earth, then? Just a guess, what with the Sharknado and all.

[That's what's important to her here. They can get back to the horror movie vibe in a second.]

Yeah. Earth. Los Angeles, actually.

[Don't worry, LA, he's here to carry your legacy into spaaaaaace.

Which reminds him--when you're getting chased by shady characters in LA, you keep your feet on the street. He'll help her up and it is time to go...in some direction. ]

ex_bossily211: (it's my way or the highway)

[personal profile] ex_bossily211 2017-10-20 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's a little slow, what with the being dazed and everything. But she grabs his hand and lets him drag her along. It's much easier that way.]

London, in case the accent doesn't give it away.

[It's so dark, she has no idea how he knows where he's going. She gets the feeling they're going to be doing a lot of aimless running here.]

We need to find the source of energy here. A generator or something. The last space station I was on that lost power, everyone very nearly died when it was dark like this.

Hmm.

[Monika taps her finger against her chin, then lets out a light laugh before holding up her index finger.]

Well, this is definitely a start to a day. I sort of wish I knew a little more about what to do in a situation like this.

[She peeps out from a door and calls down the hallway:]

Hello? Anyone? Sorry if I'm bothering you, but I'm not real accustomed to things like plumbing! If I could get a hand here, that would be terrific.

ii. i'm more of a goosebumps girl

[Most girls might react to this kind of situation of being plunged into darkness suddenly with more fright. Inherently, she does feel a bit uneasy, but not outright scared in the moment.

Instead, she knits her brows in the shadows, pausing when something brushes on by. She doesn't shriek or squeal, and instead tries to determine where the touch came from.]

Hello?

If someone's there, I think I might rather walk together than trying to scare each other. You can come out!

iii. is this a horror novel now

[This is not something she's really known from the other side. She felt, once, that she really knew best, that she knew everything and she looked into the hole and knew
that Epiphany

She knew what was wrong unfair the path she needed to make for herself is this what it's like?

Monika breathes and breathes and the last time her heart raced like this was with Him

She brings her hand to her mouth, then laughs quietly, uneasily.

Then she runs. Athletic, He said, and that was true.

Monika runs and runs. How to Start Over from this point?

Can she?]

[There's something soothing about the damp floors and metal walls of Avagi Station and doesn't that just make him feel all kinds of messed up. Reminds him some of Three Mile Island - a place he spent the better part of twenty years living in through no choice of his own. He'd think himself slightly insane if logic didn't dictate that comfort could be drawn from familiarity. Remy didn't like it, didn't prefer the similarities, but it was far better than the alternative. The unknown.

He steps through the darkness in search of another person or a strong drink. Preferably the latter, but the former he won't mind so much. Well, he'd thought that until a shoe comes in contact with his shin and sends a spark of pain through his leg.]

I've really got no idea now, miss.

[He hasn't been here long enough to form any solid opinions as to that state of things. Remy rubs his shin and takes a step away from the voice, for safety's sake of course.]

That's a mighty nice kick you've got there.

[Now Remy doesn't go making assumptions about a person by voice alone but it's all he's got to work with. He'll just have to apologize if he assumed the incorrect gender.]

That's great that you were able to get it solved on your own! I guess we could maybe use a bucket and a few towels. That should mostly clean up this mess.

Do you have anything like that around?
