October Test Drive

Multiversal travel can be disorienting, but there’s no need to worry! All side effects are temporary and lessen with each trip. Your body may experience several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You may have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer dizziness while others are perfectly fine. You notice that the area you are in is filled with a soft cerulean light and feels slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you. Regardless of your current state, however, the stress of transit forces your body into unconsciousness.

Waking up is another story. Or maybe it isn’t.

You find yourself in a nondescript room; sometimes with others who have found themselves in the same situation, sometimes alone. Welcome to Avagi Station, your new home.

Avagi

A fixer upper opportunity:
Welcome to your new home! It’s a bit rough around the edges but it could be so much worse. Or that’s what you thought until you walked to your housing level and found the bathroom floating under three inches of water as a pipe gushes water. That’s definitely not what those pipes should be doing, you should probably try and get that fixed before your entire level is flooded. Who knows what sort of chaos all that water will play with Avagi’s support systems. Do you call for help or is someone going to find you trying to play amateur plumber with a roll of tape?

Are you afraid of the dark?:
There are different types of darkness that one has to deal with when they're living in space. There's the dim lighting of rarely used corridors, the shadows that lurk wherever they can find a place to hide. And you must never forget the swirling blackness of the storm that surrounds Avagi. Today you're dealing with a darkness you've been warned to expect. Some of your fellow residents are overhauling the electrical systems on board and told everyone that there was a chance there could be randomized blackouts.

The lights blink out without a sound, plunging you into darkness. Your eyes take a while to adjust and when they do everything seems a bit more… sinister. Sound travels differently in the dark, the quietest scratches and bumps echo louder in your ears and--

What was that ? Did that sound come from nearby? Did something just touch your leg? Maybe you should find someone before you get more paranoid. If it is paranoia, anyways.

Jeepers Creepers...:
The blackouts continue, spreading beyond isolated sections until they’re taking over entire blocks of the station and plunging everything into a more pervasive darkness. Wherever it spreads, a faint odor accompanies it along with a sudden burst of paranoia as everything seems more intense and slightly blurry at the same time. When the lights snap on the feeling of disorientation worsens and you struggle to focus when an intercom crackles to life blaring a warning you can barely understand. All you know is that something is wrong. And even worse, you know without a doubt that something, someone is coming to hurt you. As you see figures approaching, faces a blur of inhumanity marred by a mask to hide their identites you do the only thing you can in your panic.

You run.

Hopefully someone will be able to catch you and get you to clear air before you find a weapon and decide to stand your ground against them.

i. fixer upper
The term 'cosmic joke' is too much right now.

[He's sloshing around in the water, trying to ignore the freezing cold water covering him and his sleepwear. Adam curses harshly under his breath while getting closer to the shower stall wall where the trouble seems to be.

Black metal fingers dig into the wall and tear a section open, and he gets a face full of the water. His "fuck me!" can be heard all the way down the hall.]

ii. jeepers creepers
[It's not running away, is a strategic retreat, thank you very much. Adam is good at these. He runs in near silence down the claustrophobic hallway until he rounds a corner and there he stops, a grimace on his face, and his metal hands balling into fists. Whatever's coming, he's going to be ready.

Unfortunately it's you that's coming and not some horrible monster (unless you are a horrible monster). Fortunately, Adam merely hunkers down until you're passing and then he pounces. The fortunate part of this is that he doesn't have any weapons out, yet.]

fixer upper.

[Kaz's weakness now? Water. Before this would have been no problem. But the swell of air inside of his artificial leg is keeping him off balance. And he knows from playful experience that if it gets too bad?]

[He'll not be able to handle himself at all.]

This better not empty all of the water tank.

[Kaz says as he emerges from his quarters out into the hallway, woefully wet and miserable looking husky in tow. He has to hold to the wall and put almost all of his weight on his prosthesis just to keep from falling over.]

[More choice words come from the man, as he becomes angrier at the situation he has no control over. About the time he notices a different kind of sloshes than his own mingled with the pouring of water from the wall, he's got a serious pissed-off expression which is turned onto the stranger and the dog.

However, as soon as he sees the dog, his whole demeanor changes. Not many people will ever know this but dogs are kind of his weakness, ever since he'd lost Kubrick. Adam's brows draw in with immediate concern and he ignores the water streaming over his side. His t-shirt and pajama pants are a joke at this point.]

You okay? Your dog okay? [He calls out over the rush of water.] I don't know how to stop this!

Let's try to slow the leak for now. Where is it coming from.

[Kaz keeps his shoulder to the wall, moving alongside it until he reaches the stranger. Mama looking miserable as she sloshes through.]

She's fine. [He explains, looking down at her.] But she's not happy.

[Huskies usually don't get this wet, and she complains loudly and with many doglike syllables. Kaz has gotten used to it, mostly ignoring it as he watches to see where the water is flowing from, seeing if he can recognize the feel of the flow.]

Can't say I'm happy either.

[Adam watches the poor wet dog and his instinct is to pick her up and carry her away to safety. He frowns as he looks to the man again before focusing on the problem at hand rather than his eagerness to rescue a dog.

He looks back to the wall and reaches up to tear loose another chunk of the wall.]

It looks like it's coming from a break between this floor and the one above. The most I can do is pinch the pipe, but that'll cause leaking on the floor above instead. What we really need to do is get the water turned off. Any ideas?

[Adam moves to stand on the edge of the tub, reaching up with both metal hands and he tugs off another section of the wall for a better look.]

Pinch the pipe? [He asks first. Before he notes there's a good possibility that this stranger could just mean physically pinch the pipe, he's likely strong enough to.]

There might be a manual way to do so in life support, but we'd have to get there. It might be better to stifle it for now. It may 'cause an issue above, but it would also slow the water flow in general. Buy us some time.

[And luckily for Adam, Kaz does pick up that wet animal. Mama drips miserably in his arms, and though he'd like to just return her to their quarters, she'd just get wet again.]

Let me find a table for her. Then we can go try to solve the problem.

[This cool water is making his knee hurt beneath the prosthetic it's so cold. On top of the balance issues, that's making his limp more pronounced.]

You can put her on my bed if she'll stay; that'd be more comfortable for her.

[She'll have some blankets at least. Poor pup. Adam sees the logic in the man's plan and pries off a bit more of the bathroom wall to look up at the pipework.]

Okay, upstairs neighbors, to use an old Earth saying, "sorry-not-sorry."

[Adam does indeed use his bare hands. He grabs one of the thick water works pipes above the main leak and with little effort bends the end up and pinches it together against itself. There's an ominous groan in the ceiling above them, but the water stops pouring out instantly.]
