SEPTEMBER TEST DRIVE MEME

ABOARD THE MOIRA

Whether adjusting to space travel has been difficult or not, there is always something to be done. From working to leisure, the Moira offers a multitude of opportunities to get to know your crewmates a bit better. Exploration of the ship is highly encouraged, but as another planet grows closer to being docked, things start to get a little hectic. You'll notice a slight change in the artificial gravity as the Moira is pulled into the planet's gravitational field; however, more noticeable changes can be found in the overall morale as you prepare to descend.

☄ in the mess hall:

Things have been pretty smooth sailing thus far. There haven't been any unexpected horrors or accidents, and no one has gone missing. Later in the evening, you find yourself hungry and decide to check out what's on the menu. Making your way toward the mess hall, you discover that the door is closed and a sign has been posted directly in the center. It reads:

We don't know who did this or why, but action will be taken if it is not fixed immediately.

At the bottom, in very small print, it is signed by the captains. Venturing inside, you find something irregular about the room, and it's not what you might have thought. Finding the culprit, however, is hardly on anyone's mind. In fact, the kitchen has been closed until everything on the tables has been "fixed". Decadent foods and desserts from many of the planets explored in the past are laid out like a feast. There might even be liquor, but who knows how strong that stuff is. Consider this a thank you for all the hard work and effort you've put forth as a valuable crew member. Whoever said the mess hall wasn't for messes was sadly misinformed! It's party time.

☄ on your own:

There are plenty of other communal areas on the ship to explore! Pick a place, and see where it takes you.

PLANET EXPLORATION

Unlike some of the previously found planets, this one is populated. However, the majority of the natives are located in one central area near a very large body of water. At some point, it might have been a lake, but due to some abnormal constructional designs, it has been transformed into a well-maintained connection of underwater cities. Still, accessing them may prove to be difficult. Your MID warns of no pollutants in either the air or water. Yet, it has problems translating the language spoken between these humanoid beings—if they even speak at all. Most of them appear friendly, more than welcoming, but what's to be said about someone (or something) that doesn't wish to talk?

☄ the submerged:

I would like to be the air that inhabits you for a moment. I would like to be that unnoticed and that necessary.

Exploring the surrounding areas, which consist of marshes and some small trees, doesn't yield much. There are little resources and no fauna to speak of. The natives continue to lure whoever dares to follow closer to the water, their gestures open and curious. There is nothing to hint at the dangers that await anyone who wanders within arm's length of the shore, and if you do... Hopefully you weren't traveling alone and a friend is there to attempt dragging you away from the tight grip of the thing suddenly yanking you into the murk of that lake. They will fight to keep you, sink their hands and fins deep enough to draw blood; it calls more of them up from the depths to bring you down. For they need you like air, are desperate to call you their own, and if you surrender, how are you to ever describe the the last thing you see?

Is that what happened to the all those ships found crashed here and there, buried beneath mud and moss? Is this what became of the people aboard them? How ironic the dead say even less than the things that got you.

The Submerged

[ The thought of exploring another planet was simultaneously exciting and terrifying,

The locals made him nervous, so he'd been avoiding the ground around the lake, but he did want to get a closer look at their cities, see how they were set up and ask Tsunami later if it was anything like the Deep Palace. Starflight had always wondered about that, since only Seawings could breathe underwater to get there.

Exploring from the air had seemed like the safest option, flying over the water and staring down to try and make out what was below. He didn't think they could grab him out of the air, an assumption that turned out to be a grave error when one of them grabbed his tail and pulled him out of the sky.

Starflight yelped, just managing to get a deep breath before the water covered his head. He could see hulking dark shapes around them, but he was too preoccupied with struggling for his life to notice. As soon as they had him underwater more of the creatures had swarmed him, and Starflight lashed out with flailing claws, trying to free his wings enough to help him reach the surface.

His chest was aching from holding his breath when he finally managed to break the surface with a gasp, but more slimy hands were already reaching for him. Starflight floundered toward the shore as quickly as he could, hollering whenever his head was above water. ]

HELP!! SOMEONE! Help me!

[ milly's just approaching the lakeshore at a light glide, intending to indulge her own curiosity like everyone else who came down. then she sees the dragon suddenly thrash and struggle as he's dragged into the water, and milly leaps into action. a drowning dragon? milly's definitely handled situations weirder than this.

she arcs into the air and swoops down toward the water's surface, grabbing hold of one of starflight's claws when it breaks the surface, angling her body to get her arm around his neck and pull. she doesn't want to hurt him, but there isn't much else to grab onto. ]

I've got you! Just -- hold on!!

[ Starflight gasped for air as something pulled him up high enough to get his head free again, but his new position was too awkward for him to even pretend to effectively fight back any more. He twisted around as well as he could, trying to kick some of the creatures pulling on his wings with his back talons and mostly failing. ]

I need my wings free! Or to get higher!

[ If they could manage that then he might actually have a chance of breaking free. He had a feeling most of these things would give up if they weren't near the water. ]

[Things Tony never expected to be doing: rescuing a dragon. At least, it seems like a dragon. He was admittedly not well-versed in what did and didn't constitute as an actual dragon. But this one looked like a dragon and he was apparently in trouble, so Tony found himself surprisingly flying to the rescue.]

Hold on.

[He didn't waste time question whether or not the big lizard would think a human in full plate armor grabbing hold of him was a bad thing. Tony pulled back once he got his grip, using the armor's jets to start a tug-of-war with the finned creatures below the surface. More hands came up and try to latch onto him, and in the back of his mind he was grateful not to be clawed to death by whatever the aliens were. Without the armor he'd probably get dragged right under with his new friend. For the moment he was stuck trying to get more than the dragon's head up and out of their grasp.]

Can't you blow fire or something? Scare them off?

[The armor sent him more and more alerts as he struggled to help the dragon get free. Warnings about more approaching figures and strain on his systems.]

This... is turning into a really weird day.

[ If Starflight hadn't already reached hysteric levels of fear, getting grabbed and pulled by something metal would have sent him over the edge.

As it was, he was just grateful it was pulling him upward and he was able to breath again. His rescuer had a good point about scaring them off, and as soon as he could manage between coughing up water, he took a deep, hissing inhale of breath. Aiming for the nearest creatures he opened his jaws wide, blasting the surface of the water with a stream of fire.

A good number of the underwater ones still clung on, but enough of the ones at the surface let go that Starflight felt the force suddenly diminish. ]

Go go go!

[ He shouted frantically, writhing around in the water until he finally managed to get one of his wings free, splashing water everywhere with his thrashing.]

[He was probably lucky the panicked dragon didn't try to take a bite out of him, thinking he was some new threat. Tony silently appreciated that good luck as he pulled the writhing body away from all of the clutching hands and fins, losing his balance when Starflight suddenly got his wings loose and the tension changed while he was pulling. He almost wound up falling in himself.]

Whoa, hey! Don't hit me!

[With the thrashing and water going everywhere, it was hard for Tony to tell where anything was. He had to let go, flying back and taking a chance by firing two repulsor shots at the water. They weren't very effective, but the attack did drive back a few of the strange creatures as he retreated into the sky.]

Hopefully they can't jump.

[ Starflight yelped as the repulsor shots hit the water around him, but that was finally enough to get the creatures off him and he struggled to get airborne as quickly as possible. He flew up past his rescuer until he felt there was enough distance between himself and the water. Just in case they could jump.]

I don't know. I don't know if that's how they grabbed me the first time, I didn't see them till it was too late.

[ He explained, hovering in the air looking wet and miserable.]

Thank you for helping me. Are you, um, are you from the Moira? Also how are you flying actually!?

[ Now that he wasn't in the middle of drowning, Starflight was able to get a good look at his rescuer, who very clearly did not have wings of any sort and was also covered in metal and was apparently having no trouble staying airborn and Starflight was a little concerned about how this was happening.]
