Look out naughty children. Mother's home.
Erik has been noodling around with trying to remake Cerebro. With Flynn's help, he's going to finally be able to make a functioning one on the station that Wanda can use. After this is running, the three of them are going to make some surprising discoveries. This will happen IC on February 3rd.
First order of business: Cerebro is a device that amplifies the range of telepathic abilities. It does not grant them to anybody who does not have them. And because Hank is some kind of master genius who is really good at making X-Men stuff, and he's not here, this one isn't a perfect replica. If anybody other than Wanda wants to use it, they'll have to do some calibrating.
Also related to the first order of business: The Ingress portals interfere with Cerebro's signal. This is the IC justification so that anybody who wants to can opt out of getting their minds read by anybody using it at any time.
Second order of business: This version of Cerebro is designed to reach the entire range of the station. The first discovery that will be made is that there is another group of people living on the other side of the station. They are not related to Mother or the player group (or the dinos). There's a few hundred of them, and they seem to be standard humanoids. It would take a few days to get there by foot.
Third order of business: Mother is also on the station. She's somewhere deep in the former Ingress station. (This is why Erik wanted to make Cerebro in the first place. He encountered Mother during the holiday event, but wasn't sure if she was really there or if it was some kind of time travel/memory projection like the other stuff.)
What these three are going to do about it: After these discoveries, they're going to start planning two things. One open to everybody, the other a small group.
There will be a diplomatic mission sent to make first contact with the other group on the station. This is open to all.
There will also be a scouting mission lead by Erik to try to learn more about what is going on with Mother before they make the information known to everybody. So the mission won't be overcrowded, this is going to be limited to five spots. He'll be looking for responsible, sneaky adults. So if you're interested and your character fits the bill, please let me know! If there are more than five interested, we'll use an RNG to pick who goes.
Also keep in mind that this is just the beginning of us dealing with this new info. The missions may not go to plan and there will be plenty of opportunities going forward to get in on either/both of these things. Also, whatever we plan for this may be affected by the mod plot for the month, so keep in mind that we'll have to adjust when necessary. Also, depending on what those effects are, it may take more than a month to get through all of the stuff we tentatively plan here. Also NEW PLAYERS WELCOME!
IMPORTANT ETA: I totally forgot to mention, but Erik isn't going to make Mother's presence known outside of the original three and the reconnaissance team until they come back with whatever information they're able to get. He doesn't want to keep this a secret for long, he just doesn't want to cause a panic with the "Mother's here" announcement without any further information about where she is or what she can do.

So, despite what impressions he may give off, Lavellan actually has a lot of experience in diplomacy and working out alliances with potentially hostile people! And he'd also be very interested in reaching out because he doesn't trust a lot of people on the station not to be xenophobic. It can be rough not being a human I tell you what.
(Also, this would be a great opportunity for him to not royally fuck something up for once, which would be nice!)
So!! If anybody would want to work with him on this please hit me up!! Or just gawk at him actually taking this seriously for once, amazing, even he can square up if he needs to. I took it slow this past month so I welcome p much anything :3
