player plot: INFESTATION
SO as some of you may know, Ginko comes from a world with a rather unusual type of life-form: Ethereal beings known as mushi, made mostly of life force and invisible to most humans. While mushi are necessary for the balance and structure of the ecosystem in Ginko’s world, they can also sometimes cause some troublesome infections and illnesses in humans.
Early in May, Ginko and several others have briefly visited his world, and have brought some unexpected visitors back with them. Unfortunately, some of these mushi are, of course, the kind that cause infections, because we can’t have nice things here.
If you want your character to get infected, let me know here! None of these infections are necessarily fatal, though they can be dangerous; if your character goes to the medbay for treatment they should be fine, even if it takes some recovery time, and all infestations can be assumed to be cleared out by the end of the month.
INFECTIONS BELOW (again, body horror and eye trauma below):
Un: A snail-like mushi that eats sound. Normally they live in the woods and don’t interact with humans, but in winter, when sound is muffled, they may hide in humans’ ears, eating anything they hear and effectively deafening them in one or both ears, depending on whether both ears have Un in them or not. Un are not really contagious, but several could potentially wind up on board, and it’s possible that they could be driven from one host and seek out another. Their infection is also one of the easiest to cure, requiring only saltwater poured into the infected ear(s).
Manako Yami: A light-averse mushi that hides in people’s eyes and makes them extremely sensitive to light. Victims will experience intense pain when exposed to even so much as candlelight (feel free to make the effects a little weaker if you’d rather!) but the disease’s effects will just become stronger the more the host avoids light. In extreme cases this mushi can devour its host’s eyes entirely, but that’s very rare and not something that’s likely to happen unless you really want it to.
Suiko: A mushi that lives primarily in water; those infected by it (generally by drinking infested water) will find themselves almost constantly thirsty, and will likely experience a strong desire to be submerged in water. If the infection goes untreated for too long, the victim’s body will gradually become transparent, seemingly turning to water itself, and eventually they will vanish entirely. Again, this is not something that’s likely to actually happen unless, for some reason, you want it to.
Tamashi-ka: This mushi mostly preys on powerful mushi and mountain gods, but occasionally attaches itself to humans. It eats its host’s soul energy, weakening them over time; the strength of this effect and exact symptoms, which could potentially range from some mild fatigue and headaches to an inability to even really move, generally depend on the individual and the ‘strength’ of their soul or soul-equivalent. If you’re not sure how to define that, feel free to interpret it however you would like (or just give your character as mild or severe of symptoms as you want).

Someone is going to have to save Robin from drowning, because she's going to have compulsions to submerge herself.

Mettaton is going to be infected by the Tamashi-ka. It's going to feed off his soul and make him behave unfabulously. Also anyone who can see it (he can't see mushi) can tell him his big pink heart soul looks all wormy. :V I guess that it's good that his soul is visible right?

If that won't work I'll go with a manako yami instead.
