OCTOBER TEST DRIVE MEME

ABOARD THE MOIRA

Whether adjusting to space travel has been difficult or not, there is always something to be done. From working to leisure, the Moira offers a multitude of opportunities to get to know your crewmates a bit better. Exploration of the ship is highly encouraged, but as another planet grows closer to being docked, things start to get a little hectic. You'll notice a slight change in the artificial gravity as the Moira is pulled into a gravitational field; however, more noticeable changes can be found in the overall morale as you prepare to descend.

☄ on your own:
There are plenty of other communal areas on the ship to explore! Pick a place, and see where it takes you.

AREA 895B EXPLORATION

Most of this colony has certainly seen better days--on the inside. Upon disembarking the Moira, crew members will notice that Area 895B appears poor but densely populated. It’s a mid-point between several planets, so the culture and its people are incredibly diverse. The docks are intricate and woven together like a maze, and without direction or the numerous signs that decorate the walls, it’s a place one can easily find themselves lost in. The “city proper” consists mostly of slums, but as aboard the ship, there is plenty to do and see.

bars: A-895B is notorious for them! In fact, there seems to be one on almost every corner that caters to a different sort of clientele. Poor, rich, richer. Do some of them even have an escort service? Most likely, yes.
sanctuary: Like a church, this building stands tall and proud in the center of the colony. Its structure seems to be in constant change; it is always being worked on. Yet, once inside, the interior is quiet and consists of many, many staircases. Along each step, there are so many candles that there is only enough room for safe passage up or down…
market: A good place to barter and trade. Like most areas, anything can be haggled for as long as you’re willing to pay the price.

☄ exchange booth:
Throughout random locations in A-895B, crew members will happen upon simple booths with little decoration and a native sitting behind it. For those with experience, they might think it resembles something like a kissing booth. However, these kisses are more an exchange than anything else: trade and receive a “gift”. These gifts will vary depending, but they are all contained inside a tiny box. Could it be something you were missing from home? Is it an item you’ve wanted for the last several trips planet-side? How did they even know, and what’s the catch?

A day of your life taken with that kiss. Should that not be enough to not ask such questions?

And here Snake had thought he was the one who stood out on this ship. That had to be about tenfold for this woman -- Vanessa -- who looked like she'd just stepped out of some sort of period drama. Snake didn't know very much about women's fashion, but he was pretty sure that in his time period, no one wore skirts like that.

Not that everyone here was from Earth, and Snake had even heard of people being taken from different points in time. It was the sort of thing that probably would have driven Otacon nuts trying to figure out how it all worked on a scientific level, but Snake found it easier to roll with the punches and not question it too much.

Snake glanced from Vanessa back to the exercise machine and nodded. "It's for working out, yeah. Probably easier than trying to do laps around the whole ship." And slightly more private, even if these facilities were available to everyone.

He could have given her a demonstration, but Snake didn't particularly like being under the spotlight in that way, so instead he leaned himself up against the machine and crossed his arms. He eyed her closely and then asked, "Where are you from?"

The concept of a room devoted entirely to physical fitness was a bit of an oddity for her, not the most unusual thing she's ever encountered, but certainly at the middle top of that list.

"Where I am from, one does not work out." It sounded strange rolling off her tongue but she found she quite liked it. "A person's physique was entirely dependent on their profession."

Laborers had larger upper bodies, aristocrats decidedly less in the way of muscle definition.

"That being said, I am from London. 1891. Might I ask where you are from, sir?"

There were those she'd met here from times and worlds she'd never heard of. She wouldn't assume this man fell into that category, but it was a presumption on her part, based on what she could see, that she believed was likely.

Vanessa's explanation of how things worked where she came from was enough of a giveaway (combined with her dress), but her direct answer confirmed it. London, 1891. They were from the same place, but they may as well have been different worlds, given how much had changed between their two time periods.

He frowned briefly when she called him "sir," but didn't say anything. It was the custom of her time to address people that way, but Snake didn't think it fit him. Not even in a military sense. He'd never been in charge of a group of other soldiers.

"New York, 2009," he responded. It was as close to the truth as he could get. Snake wasn't really from New York, but he more or less lived there now, so it would do.

"A lot's changed between 1891 and 2009, but all this..." He paused and looked around them. "Traveling through space on this level is still way beyond what we'd achieved."

"With such a large gap, I would imagine so."

It was a unique situation she'd found herself in. A combination of such extraordinary events that Vanessa was almost stunned by it all. This man was from 118 years into her future, a world where she would most certainly not be alive in, and all she found herself wanting to do was know more. Clearly Victor Frankenstein would be quite proud of her curiosity here.

"Is the world much changed in your time? You need not tell me, but I have to inquire. I cannot imagine the world you lived in."

She's still not thinking on the larger scale of alternate universes yet, no one has explained that to her.

For now it was easiest to assume that they were from the same version of Earth, just different times. Snake preferred it, anyway. Maybe it was more complicated than that, but it didn't really matter for their purposes and so he was going to keep it as simple as possible.

Which really wasn't very simple at all.

"Trying to tell you all the ways it's different would probably take all day." And he doubted that either of them had that kind of time. Add that to the fact that he wasn't a huge talker in the first place, and it was clear he'd rather not.

"But if you have specific things you're curious about..." He trailed off and leaned up against one of the machines. Well, offering up basic information wouldn't be too much of a strain. Especially if he viewed it as briefing someone.
