OCTOBER TEST DRIVE MEME

ABOARD THE MOIRA

Whether adjusting to space travel has been difficult or not, there is always something to be done. From working to leisure, the Moira offers a multitude of opportunities to get to know your crewmates a bit better. Exploration of the ship is highly encouraged, but as another planet grows closer to being docked, things start to get a little hectic. You'll notice a slight change in the artificial gravity as the Moira is pulled into a gravitational field; however, more noticeable changes can be found in the overall morale as you prepare to descend.

☄ on your own:
There are plenty of other communal areas on the ship to explore! Pick a place, and see where it takes you.

AREA 895B EXPLORATION

Most of this colony has certainly seen better days--on the inside. Upon disembarking the Moira, crew members will notice that Area 895B appears poor but densely populated. It’s a mid-point between several planets, so the culture and its people are incredibly diverse. The docks are intricate and woven together like a maze, and without direction or the numerous signs that decorate the walls, it’s a place one can easily find themselves lost in. The “city proper” consists mostly of slums, but as aboard the ship, there is plenty to do and see.

bars: A-895B is notorious for them! In fact, there seems to be one on almost every corner that caters to a different sort of clientele. Poor, rich, richer. Do some of them even have an escort service? Most likely, yes.
sanctuary: Like a church, this building stands tall and proud in the center of the colony. Its structure seems to be in constant change; it is always being worked on. Yet, once inside, the interior is quiet and consists of many, many staircases. Along each step, there are so many candles that there is only enough room for safe passage up or down…
market: A good place to barter and trade. Like most areas, anything can be haggled for as long as you’re willing to pay the price.

☄ exchange booth:
Throughout random locations in A-895B, crew members will happen upon simple booths with little decoration and a native sitting behind it. For those with experience, they might think it resembles something like a kissing booth. However, these kisses are more an exchange than anything else: trade and receive a “gift”. These gifts will vary depending, but they are all contained inside a tiny box. Could it be something you were missing from home? Is it an item you’ve wanted for the last several trips planet-side? How did they even know, and what’s the catch?

A day of your life taken with that kiss. Should that not be enough to not ask such questions?

She takes the gun, but gives him a confused bordering on withering look at the question. He looks like he's seen his share of fights; he should know as well as she does. "I... fire them?" Overheating is just what guns do. "You know, they heat up because the slugs get made and fired so fast, so you have to keep reloading new heat sinks? I've only got the thermal clips I came with."

From the stare of the stall owner, it seems routinely overheating guns is not the case on at least this planet. She coughs, because Commander Shepard does not get embarrassed even by her terrible dancing and so neither does she, and she turns her attention to the gun she's holding, judging the weight in her hand. "This seems fine," she says, before attempting a surreptitious search for its heat sinks or cooldown mechanic.

The stare from the stall owner wasn't so different from Snake's in this case. Heat sinks, thermal clips? He had to remember that they probably came from very different places. "To get a gun to heat up that much where I'm from, you'd have to be shooting hundreds of rounds within a few minutes," he said, figuring that would explain the confusion.

He noticed the way that she was looking the gun over, searching for something that looked familiar, and couldn't help but sympathize. It took some adjusting, given that the way guns were built tended to differ from planet to planet. Which made sense, but having to relearn old skills every time they set foot somewhere got tedious.

His mouth curled up on one side in a half-smirk. "At least the basics stay the same. Point, shoot." The real question was, did she have it in her to actually take a life? Without that kind of intent, a gun was more or less useless.

As a submachine gun user, that sustained high rate of fire is something she's trained for, but she gets the feeling those guns and assault rifles aren't what he's talking about. Rather than point out that kinetic barriers necessitate speed and volume, she decides to drop it with a simple headshake of disbelief.

"Trigger," she adds to his list of consistent basics. "I'm surprised the aliens haven't come up with another control for it."

There's something hard about the way she says 'aliens', but she doesn't even just mean the ones surrounding her on this planet; alien guns in her galaxy, from what Khan had told her, all use the same trigger mechanism as humanmade firearms.

"What, like some kind of psychic wave?" Snake shoots back, and he's really only half joking. Given his fight with a certain member of FOXHOUND (once it had become little more than a terrorist group), he's got some experience with that kind of thing.

"Maybe we just haven't made it to that planet yet." The rules get changed on them each and every time, so Snake figures it makes more sense to be prepared for just about anything. It's a good thing that his life even before the Moira had forced him to be adaptable.

He's quiet for a few more moments before he decides to go ahead and make an offer. "If you're interested in keeping your skills sharp, we can try to set up some kind of shooting range." Who knows if the captains will be happy about that, but it's not like Snake actually cares. He doesn't answer to anyone but himself. He isn't the more social person, but it's not like they need to chat and share their feelings while shooting guns. It'd probably be too loud for that, anyway.
