OCTOBER TEST DRIVE MEME

ABOARD THE MOIRA

Whether adjusting to space travel has been difficult or not, there is always something to be done. From working to leisure, the Moira offers a multitude of opportunities to get to know your crewmates a bit better. Exploration of the ship is highly encouraged, but as another planet grows closer to being docked, things start to get a little hectic. You'll notice a slight change in the artificial gravity as the Moira is pulled into a gravitational field; however, more noticeable changes can be found in the overall morale as you prepare to descend.

☄ on your own:
There are plenty of other communal areas on the ship to explore! Pick a place, and see where it takes you.

AREA 895B EXPLORATION

Most of this colony has certainly seen better days--on the inside. Upon disembarking the Moira, crew members will notice that Area 895B appears poor but densely populated. It’s a mid-point between several planets, so the culture and its people are incredibly diverse. The docks are intricate and woven together like a maze, and without direction or the numerous signs that decorate the walls, it’s a place one can easily find themselves lost in. The “city proper” consists mostly of slums, but as aboard the ship, there is plenty to do and see.

bars: A-895B is notorious for them! In fact, there seems to be one on almost every corner that caters to a different sort of clientele. Poor, rich, richer. Do some of them even have an escort service? Most likely, yes.
sanctuary: Like a church, this building stands tall and proud in the center of the colony. Its structure seems to be in constant change; it is always being worked on. Yet, once inside, the interior is quiet and consists of many, many staircases. Along each step, there are so many candles that there is only enough room for safe passage up or down…
market: A good place to barter and trade. Like most areas, anything can be haggled for as long as you’re willing to pay the price.

☄ exchange booth:
Throughout random locations in A-895B, crew members will happen upon simple booths with little decoration and a native sitting behind it. For those with experience, they might think it resembles something like a kissing booth. However, these kisses are more an exchange than anything else: trade and receive a “gift”. These gifts will vary depending, but they are all contained inside a tiny box. Could it be something you were missing from home? Is it an item you’ve wanted for the last several trips planet-side? How did they even know, and what’s the catch?

A day of your life taken with that kiss. Should that not be enough to not ask such questions?

incantamentum: (Inquire)

[He smiles slightly, the look of consideration on her face was enough for him, and then enquiring about the taste... it meant he wanted to share it, regardless of whether or not she wanted to ask for it herself.

He waves a hand over the top of the glass, a muttered reproduisez tumbling from his lips. Suddenly there's another crackle of magic similar to what happened when he'd first created it except there's now two glasses in front of him. He picks up one and leans in her direction with it.
]

Try it yourself, you'll have to let me know. [An encouraging smile.] After all, I've been drinking it far too long to do it justice.
petridish: (look at you)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-10-22 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[She takes the glass, but at first she does nothing but squint at it suspiciously, and then glance at his. Another weird trick. At least it looks the same as the one he'd been about to drink himself, so it's probably not poisoned.

[It's by sheer ignorance that she happens upon an actual facet of wine tasting by sniffing the wine. Not that she knows anything about wine flavors - or, for that matter, plants or wood - to get anything out of this other than 'not like water, or coffee, or Tupari'.

[This sort of carry-on continues for a few moments before she finally bites the bullet and takes a mouthful.

[And makes a face.]
incantamentum: (Amused)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-10-23 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[He smiles encouragingly, watching her in a way that was now a step away from purely analysing her. It felt nice, being able to encourage someone's first something, even if it was something as small as their first taste of wine. After all, back home this would be the kind of thing that most would experience before they were even of age.

The face though, he might have anticipated. He'd forgotten that a first taste of wine was... well, awful, compared to actually having the refined palate to actually enjoy it.
]

Not a fan, hm?
petridish: (what makes you so damned special?)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-01 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
[She swallows her mouthful, purely because spitting it out would make a mess that she doesn't feel like tidying up, and shoves the glass back his way.]

How can you drink that stuff? [How does anyone drink that stuff, let alone enough to get drunk?] Is it all like that, or is it just because you - [She lifts one hand, using her thumb and fingers to mimic lips, like a sock puppet.] Is professional wine any better?
incantamentum: (Wine)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-01 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[He narrows his eyes at that, because well it was an insult against both his magic and his palate.]

I'll have you know that's as close an approximation to Merlot as one can find with all the luxury of never having to leave your home. [A sigh.] But yes, red wine is a distinguished taste that a lot of people have been known to have to develop rather than simply swallow.
petridish: (the Normandy needs its captain)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-02 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
['Home' gets a flicker of a bitter smile, because he wouldn't know, but she's never really had one to leave. She had a series of hideouts. For some glorious minutes, she had the Normandy. The Moira's hardly home.]

Unless they make neural implants for liking red wine, I think I'll pass on that development. [She waves a hand towards him in invitation.] More for you.
incantamentum: (Srsly)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-02 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[He tilts his head at that in confusion.] Neural implants? I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean. [Except he's smiling.] Thank you, I won't see it go to waste.
petridish: (I'm the real thing perfected)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-03 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Bits of tech they put in your brain to activate your neural pathways so you learn something fast.

[She goes back to drinking her water, before remembering: The real Commander Shepard didn't have any.] Just something I've heard about. Sounds painful and expensive.
incantamentum: (Perplexed)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-03 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[He just tilts his head at that because it was incredibly weird.]

Bah... the technology where I'm from, it is not that advanced... at all. [Because seriously what the fuck.]
petridish: (I'd never fool my supposed 'friends')

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-05 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[She raises an eyebrow. Neural implants aren't the most common modifications, but they're not top of the line, either. She's proof of that.]

Yeah? What's the best you've got?
incantamentum: (Interested)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-05 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[He scratches his chin thoughtfully.]

The best technology we have? [He's absolutely confused.] In terms of what's commonly available? I suppose the smart phone is quite advanced? The government have supercomputers and their weapons of war, too, and satellites.
petridish: (what makes you so damned special?)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-06 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
... what's a... 'smart' phone? [Everything else makes sense.]
incantamentum: (Pensive)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-07 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Its like... a portable telephone that's significantly smarter than one's regular portable telephone? [Because what the fuck was a smart phone.] Oh and they have several applications that can be quite useful. [Such as grindr.]
petridish: (the same DNA as you)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-08 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's the applications that click for her, though probably not in the way one might expect from someone who'd have to ask.] Ohhh, a phone. You have phones that don't have apps?
incantamentum: (lviii.)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-09 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
We do, well, did. Mostly older generations use them now. [God, wow, they did still exist.] For example my grandmother still doesn't own a smartphone. She maintains to using the chorded one in the Manor.
petridish: (please send this to an animal shelter)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-09 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Corded - ?!

[Hang on.]

What year is - [No, let's rethink that question.] - are you from? [There must be a reason the technology they're familiar with seems so inconceivable to each other.]
incantamentum: (lxiv.)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-10 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[He frowns.] Its two thousand and fifteen... I understand that owning a corded telephone is odd but we're not completely in the dark ages.
petridish: (we're not even in the same league)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-10 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Might as well be, compared to 2186.

[Her tech education only went as far as what's available in her time and what she needed in battle.]
incantamentum: (lxxxiv.)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-13 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
...2186? [A beat.] You... you're from the future?
petridish: (I'd never fool my supposed 'friends')

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-14 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
You're from the past.
incantamentum: (lxv.)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-14 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's completely subjective, but yes. You are, apparently, from some concept of the future and I, in comparison, am form your past.
petridish: (the Normandy needs its captain)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-18 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[She runs a gloved finger around the rim of her glass in thought.] They said there were people from other worlds - I didn't think there'd be other times.
incantamentum: (lvii.)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-20 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shrugs.] I assumed as much. Even being on this ship left me with the impression that I must be in the future. In my time we haven't even begun to explore true space travel.
petridish: (the same DNA as you)

[personal profile] petridish 2015-11-22 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
[She shakes her head in wonder.] By mine we have colonies all over the galaxy - I'm from one of them.

[Or Shepard is, anyway. She doesn't know where her lab was.]
incantamentum: (lxxx.)

[personal profile] incantamentum 2015-11-23 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, well. [A chuckle.] We are stuck on earth, colonies are the kind of thing we make movies about rather than actually perform.

sorry this is late! wrap soon?
