OCTOBER TEST DRIVE MEME

ABOARD THE MOIRA

Whether adjusting to space travel has been difficult or not, there is always something to be done. From working to leisure, the Moira offers a multitude of opportunities to get to know your crewmates a bit better. Exploration of the ship is highly encouraged, but as another planet grows closer to being docked, things start to get a little hectic. You'll notice a slight change in the artificial gravity as the Moira is pulled into a gravitational field; however, more noticeable changes can be found in the overall morale as you prepare to descend.

☄ on your own:
There are plenty of other communal areas on the ship to explore! Pick a place, and see where it takes you.

AREA 895B EXPLORATION

Most of this colony has certainly seen better days--on the inside. Upon disembarking the Moira, crew members will notice that Area 895B appears poor but densely populated. It’s a mid-point between several planets, so the culture and its people are incredibly diverse. The docks are intricate and woven together like a maze, and without direction or the numerous signs that decorate the walls, it’s a place one can easily find themselves lost in. The “city proper” consists mostly of slums, but as aboard the ship, there is plenty to do and see.

bars: A-895B is notorious for them! In fact, there seems to be one on almost every corner that caters to a different sort of clientele. Poor, rich, richer. Do some of them even have an escort service? Most likely, yes.
sanctuary: Like a church, this building stands tall and proud in the center of the colony. Its structure seems to be in constant change; it is always being worked on. Yet, once inside, the interior is quiet and consists of many, many staircases. Along each step, there are so many candles that there is only enough room for safe passage up or down…
market: A good place to barter and trade. Like most areas, anything can be haggled for as long as you’re willing to pay the price.

☄ exchange booth:
Throughout random locations in A-895B, crew members will happen upon simple booths with little decoration and a native sitting behind it. For those with experience, they might think it resembles something like a kissing booth. However, these kisses are more an exchange than anything else: trade and receive a “gift”. These gifts will vary depending, but they are all contained inside a tiny box. Could it be something you were missing from home? Is it an item you’ve wanted for the last several trips planet-side? How did they even know, and what’s the catch?

A day of your life taken with that kiss. Should that not be enough to not ask such questions?

"English is okay. I like to stay in practice."

Ah. Snake, ah? Obviously he was a wrestler from the eighties. Everything was clear now. Okay, probably not. Falcon's name had genuinely been Falcon. It was his last name. It was very possible that "Snake" was indeed the man's name.

It made him miss Falcon a little, now that he thought about it.

"Be careful. There is a lot of things here that mess up how you think." He warned right off. "If someone comes at you, they could be out of their head and not know what they are doing. It's happened to me a couple of times."

Snake still kept it in mind that he could speak to Niko in Russian if that ever came up. If they needed to communicate something to each other without the people around them understanding, for instance. Maybe he would never need to worry about it, but a spy always noted that kind of thing -- just in case.

The fact that Niko was willing to give out free information was helpful, too. Snake had already guessed that not everything was as it seemed on this ship. They'd been conscripted more or less against their will, after all, and so that had to mean strings were attached.

He thought of Psycho Mantis, of Meryl, and bowed his head even as he kept running.

"Wanna give an example?" There were a lot of different ways that someone's head could be messed with. Usually the signs were pretty obvious, but Snake still wanted to know what to look out for.

"This little guy tried to make a fight with me. He didn't do much because he breaks easy, but normally he's a pretty even tempered guy. And something happened because of masks. It was strange." He was breathing heavily, but still okay with talking, enough so that he even shook his head in confusion at the end of the explanation.

"I just duct taped the little guy, but I think some people here might need better than tape."

At least he didn't go into the fact that afterward he had received a living blanket as an apology. Really, Niko's life had a typical sort of unpleasant irony about it. He had only recently started getting used to the off the wall strangeness. At least now he had some range of comparison, where as before he didn't know what the hell was going on.

Off the wall strangeness more or less described Snake's life. He'd long passed the point where he questioned things too extensively. It never led anywhere, so it seemed easier to simply accept things, bizarre as they were, and move on.

So someone who was usually on the calm side decided to attack Niko out of nowhere. Because of a mask? Snake didn't really understand the connection there, but then again, Niko didn't seem to either.

"That's one way to do it," Snake said in regards to the duct tape. Probably not how he would have handled it, but what was the best way to subdue someone who wasn't in their right mind? Well, the M9 would have done it. Too bad he didn't have that on him.

"How often does that kind of thing happen?" he asked. He'd fallen into a rhythm with his exercise so that he was barely thinking about it at this point, his muscles having sufficiently warmed up.

"Every few weeks or so." Niko started squinting at the read-out on the machine, experimentally hit a button, and then had to jog quicker to set it back to the previous speed. Yup, he'd have to be careful with that.

He probably would have preferred a tranquilizer himself, but Niko wasn't always the most patient person. Had it been someone he wasn't all that fond of, he probably would have been fine punching them unconscious. Old habits died hard, even if in his heart of hearts he did know that they needed to, and that knuckle-prints in someone's face rarely ended well.

"Maybe I should petition for all of us to be equipped with sleep darts and giant butterfly nets the size of people." He smiled a little at his own joke at the last one, just because he had enough imagination to know driving one of the muscular badasses on board into fits of wiggles worthy of a rabbit in a trap with their face mashed up against mesh would be pretty funny.

Every few weeks? That was pretty often for strange things to happen around the ship. Snake wondered if they were provided with any real explanation for it, or if the captains liked to pretend that it didn't happen. In his experience, higher-ranked officers often did their best to hide something that wasn't very easily hidden. Say enough times that everything was fine, and maybe after a while people would believe you.

It had been years since he was that gullible.

"I'm with you on the sleep darts, anyway." Catching someone in a net was a lot messier. It might have provided an amusing mental image, but Snake couldn't help but consider the situation practically. He lifted a hand to wipe some sweat from his face and then doubled his efforts on the treadmill. He was starting to sound a little winded now, but only just. "Do the captains usually honor those kinds of requests?" He wasn't one to suck up to authority figures, but there were a few items that would give him some piece of mind if they'd grant them.

"I haven't asked. My last bosses eh... not so easy to approach. But things like that? I think they could agree. Of course, then you get into the aliens-"

He made a dismissive motion with his hand.

"It might just bounce off them. Or a dose might be too much for a tiny raccoon man to take. They might have to work on it." He shook his head, assuming Snake had already encountered Ratchet.
soldiergenes: (and more like my dad)

Well, Niko assumed wrong.

"Tiny raccoon man?" Snake echoed, brow knitting in confusion as he hit a button on the treadmill to gradually slow it down. They hadn't been going that long, but he'd be able to focus better if he came back later when he could have the place to himself.

Not that he considered it a loss, really. Niko had some interesting -- if strange -- information to impart.

"And who were your last bosses?" It sounded like there was a story there, and Snake preferred to ask about others rather than talk about himself. This gave him an opening to do that.
