leavin’ on a jet plane
"Don’t know when I’ll be back again."

ABOARD THE MOIRA
The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and nothing is familiar. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and offered a contract to sign that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. Any questions you might have would be answered in a straightforward manner as well as an explanation about how the Ingress, the thing that has pulled you onto the Moira, is broken and bringing people here unintentionally. This process also consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand or wrist with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

Whether adjusting to space travel has been difficult or not, there is always something to be done. From working to leisure, the Moira offers a multitude of opportunities to get to know your crewmates a bit better. Exploration of the ship is highly encouraged. You may notice a slight change in the artificial gravity every once in awhile; however, more noticeable changes can be found in overall morale of those of the crew.

☄ on your own

There are plenty of other communal areas on the ship to explore! Pick a place, and see where it takes you. ( These scenarios can be used as in-game canon. )

The day begins normally. Or almost.

The Moira has accidentally fallen along the trajectory of an asteroid barreling its way through space. While most things like this are not uncommon, and the ship is far from any potential danger of collision or risk of debris damaging the exterior, there is something particularly odd about this specific occurrence. The rock itself appears to give off a strange light that is both eerie and alive. Often, if looked at in just the right manner, it will shift colors; so, while one person sees one side of the spectrum, someone else could see something entirely different. At first, things continue on as they usually do aside from the glowing asteroid alongside the Moira, but as the hours go on, that does not seem to be the case.

☄ the hours are breathing
resignedly beneath the sky the melancholy waters lie
With a rather open view of stars and space, thanks to the skylight above, the pool in the rec area suddenly comes alive beneath the light of the asteroid filtering in. Perhaps it’s some natural response to the chemical composition of the water, or perhaps it’s magic. Yet, regardless of the explanation, those who happen to take a dip suddenly find themselves plagued by despair. The depression and melancholy are not subtle changes either; it slams into you with great force, like a punch to the gut. The longer you remain in the pool, the deeper it grows, like an all-consuming paranoia that settles into the back of your mind and causes your heart to grow heavy. These strong feelings will eventually fade if you choose to leave the pool and dry off, but as long as you remain damp from the pool, those emotions will continue to linger. Even after you’re completely dry, there will be no mistaking just how intensely you felt or why. There is no explanation and might not be. Would you dare a second swim to test whether or not it was a fluke? ( These scenarios can be used as in-game canon. )

☄ those who have crossed
the eyes are not here, there are no eyes here
The walls are shrinking in. Every room you step into feels much too small, like there isn’t enough room to even breathe. A crowded place becomes startlingly empty, and no matter how much you run, how much you explore, there is no one there to comfort you or answer your calls for help. Hallucinations run strong between the lulls of obscene loneliness or claustrophobia, and exposure to the glow of the asteroid is really the only thing to thank for that. You’re desperate to claw your way out of the ship—open the emergency hatch in the Cargo Bay, bust the glass of the Observation Deck. What’s worse is that it’s not just you. It’s catching, and the fear of being next is very real. It feels like you’re being watched, that everyone around you is looking and seeing everything you are. Or are not. The only way to make it stop is to admit that you’re afraid of being seen, but who, in the deep madness of the self, has the courage to ever admit the truth? ( These scenarios can be used as in-game canon. )

☄ the sun in flight
rage, rage against the dying of the light
Something has drifted its way onto the Moira from the outside. Unlike the faint luminosity they give off, they suck up all the light around them, making them the only source to see by. From far away, they are just flitting balls of light, but if you get close enough to inspect them, they are mean. And have sharp, sharp teeth. Go poking, and they will bite you before trying to fly away while taking that only light source with them. The option to avoid them is quite easy if you’re not the curious sort, but without them around, it will be impossibly dark. As the asteroid moves on in the opposite direction of the Moira, these light creatures begin to dissolve and fade away with it. However, a word of caution: their bites glow. If you don’t manage to find the one that bit you and capture it between your hands, the bite will become a permanent glowing fixture of your body. ( These scenarios can be used as in-game canon. )

Of course not. That'd be too easy. Nowhere near needlessly complex enough for my blood.

[If you asked her, she's a little bit relieved about that last part. She still doesn't know what to say. But, well, he didn't ask.]

If I could find a suit your size, I could take you out. It's pretty boring after a few minutes, but great for naps. [he's got his hands in his pockets, leaning in a little toward the kitten with a soft smile. He wanted to pet her, but disturbing the exhausted thing wouldn't make her like him any]

You're lucky, she's cute. I should find her some treats.
disarmin: (they call me strider)

[personal profile] disarmin 2016-07-15 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. We had to be careful, since an injury that slowed down operating our gear or holding reins could mean we'd get shot or eaten. But not taking the shot is also bad. So.

[Armin hadn't actually given it much thought, there were so many things to keep track of out on the field and screwing up even a small aspect of it could mean death. He'd trained so hard from a young age that most of it seemed like instinct, so long as he could push past the fear and shock. Lose to those and you'll feel it more than some burns and bruises.

He catches the comment.]

I don't know, I think we could've used some of the stuff I've seen out here. But if there's something I've learned, it's that technology and magic don't necessarily make things easier.

[He watches Lao's technique with genuine interest.] Nice.
disarmin: (let's all. just murder. everyone.)

Thanks. My... [Armin frowns, and for a moment it looks like he might start tearing up. He takes a deep breath, returning his gaze to the window. There's no point in pretending things are different than they are.] My boyfriend found her wandering in an alley, all dirty and cold and alone. He got her cleaned up and checked out, and gave her to me for my birthday. I'm sure she'd love some treats. I've been harassing her a lot lately, honestly.

[Boyfriend, huh? Judging by that extra sad look, Saitama figures the guy didn't get through with Armin. He'll try to distract from that bummer, because KITTEN.]

I'll look around for you. Everything's weird here, but the food's decent. Maybe she'd like some fish flakes.
disarmin: (glance)

i'm planning to! :>

[personal profile] disarmin 2016-07-15 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Fish flakes, yes I think she would like that. Wouldn't you, little girl?

[Armin's voice rises in that cutesy way no one can seem to resist doing when they talk to animals or babies. He never would have thought he would get that sentimental, but here he is.] We both like sea food. She might even let you pet her if you gave her something like that.

[Seeing just how much distress this stranger was dealing with, Daisy stepped closer to him. Concerned over what caused him to be like this.]

The water?

[Daisy looked into the pool, which was glowing. Honestly? There were a lot of things on this ship that didn't really make sense, but if this pool was meant to make you fearful or whatever, why was it open to the public? Unless someone messed with it.

Hands out stretched when he gets up to his feet, Daisy hovered near him.]

Why don't you go take a seat on one of the chairs?

[When he takes the smoke from her J presses a finger against her lips and playfully hushes at him. It's not like smoking abroad isn't allowed but she knows that there are more than few people who disagrees with the idea of breathing recycled toxic.

She accepts the offered towel, feeling somewhat disappointed that he had seen her injuries. Not because she wanted to hide the fact she's hurt (really, there wasn't anyone around Moira who had survived from the attack without any scratches) but rather because well, the cuts were quite ugly to look at.

But hey, at least he's not making a big deal out of them. So, she lifts her dress again and presses the damp towel gently against her legs, drying them.]

[Dorian doesn't see what Adam sees when he looks in the mirror, but he can tell that the man has his own inner demons, whatever they may be. He's seen plenty of inner demons to know when they're being cloistered inside the body like a poison. For the mage, it's the compliment that catches him off guard.

He's used to compliments, certainly, about his appearance and his skill with magic. It wasn't very often people said anything good about his character or suggested that there should be more people that think like him. It was enough to make him speechless, and that didn't happen often.]

Rare to get it, hard to keep it...power is such a slippery beast, people will do anything for it...defy death...become gods or parasites. [Ugh, this wasn't exactly a pleasant topic.] Ah, nothing lasts forever, that's the only thing that gives anything meaning.
takeitslow: ([Pause])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-07-15 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not? The stuff we can do is kind of amazing.

[It's clear she's talking to someone who's never had an 'issue' with his powers, with his mutant status. He's never really hidden what he could do, no need when he was faster than most people could see. With his family's lax reaction to his abilities, Peter never had a crisis over being different like so many mutants had.]

A professor? That guy? I mean, I saw the card for the school but it's kind of hard to believe he'd be much of a teacher. [Maybe if the guy didn't look perpetually hung over, Peter would have a little more faith. Or maybe Peter's still mad about letting a terrorist out and Charles is just a good scapegoat.]

Yeah. He showed up last month. He's probably at the bar, or doing whatever his interpersonal relations job does. Shouldn't be hard to find.

[ She knows it's amazing. It is. But it's scary, too. At least it was for her, in the beginning. Being able to hear all these voices and feel other people's emotions and not know what was going on. She thought she was going insane -- like Charles would later tell her when she came to the school. To meet another telepath had been beyond comforting.

It's why Peter's words and attitude bother her a bit. Brow creasing, ]

You don't like him.

[Eaten? It makes him think and decide not to bring it up. Getting shot sounded pretty common, but if the other option was to be eaten then Armin must have seen some traumatizing things.

Although he appreciates the comment about his aim he still doesn't say anything on it.]

It's good to learn something like that. People become blind if they rely on it too much. Don't get me wrong, I agree with technology being useful, but it gets forgotten that someone had to make that technology in the first place. It's not a goddamn miracle worker, it's still something man-made with logic and tenuous luck. If it was so great then... I don't know. [There's some bitterness in his voice, but he catches it to stop himself. He wants to say if it were so great he'd still be with his little girl, but not even with his best friend did he speak about it.]

Armin, give it your best shot. [Literally.] I mean, you're in here practicing, so maybe I can give advice. [Changing the subject and going back to his training roots makes things easier.]

[ She feels the frustration. It's more intense than her own, even. It's why she continues to not let her own show. ]

If it's any consolation, I hope I'm right, too. I don't know if I am but I'd rather hope for the best than scare myself.

But.. but...? [Kaidan was as bemused as Ash was about it all. How could she be alive after Virmire? It was imprinted on his memory as if it were yesterday.]

I was going to ask you the same question, though I forgot the graybox existed. I... I don't understand.
takeitslow: ([Slang])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-07-15 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really.

[It's not like he can deny it, even if he wasn't dealing with a telepath. It's not like she wouldn't figure it out, if she spoke to Charles. Peter could have liked him; did actually, before he saw the results of their prison break.]

I don't really know him. But what happened in DC, a lot of that comes back to him. He's the one that wanted to let Erik out, you know. And you saw how that turned out.
hanzer: (no forreal fuck off macready)

[personal profile] hanzer 2016-07-15 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[The reaction doesn't go unnoticed, and he finds it an interesting one. No way a guy like this is unused to compliments – not with the way he hands them out – so it's something else that got to him. For a moment, Adam's tempted to activate his CASIE mod, see what it has to say about a personality like Dorian's... But he's never liked the idea of using that particular aug just to satisfy his own curiosity.

He shakes his head, offering another one of those wry half-smiles.]
Way this conversation is heading, I'm really starting to wonder if you've got enough of that wine.

[In lieu of said wine (and the effects of the whiskey having long since worn off, thanks Sentinel RX Health System!) it's best to head this talk off before it gets much heavier. He's not entirely sure how large the ship actually is, but they must be getting close to the housing decks. A change of subject – a segue, really.] So how about the people who are in charge here, then – what are they like?

[Because while he knows there are captains, he doesn't even have an idea of what they look like. He's always found, though, that the best way to get stock of a CO is to see what the people working beneath him say about him. Any bit of information he can have when going into actually dealing with them will be an advantage.]

And you don't think he had a good reason for doing what he did?

[ She understands what Peter is saying. But at the same time, she finds herself wanting to defend Charles. Maybe it's because of the man she knows now. She doesn't know what he was like when Peter met him. ]
takeitslow: ([Apathy])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-07-15 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
He says he did. [If the man from the future was to be believed, Charles may have had the best kind of reason to let Erik free.] But he could have left me out of it. Or told me what I was getting into.

[personal profile] greyate 2016-07-15 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-07-15 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[He crosses his arms over his chest, but the action isn't defensive. It's awkward. He knows how bad his reason sounds; it's why he hasn't talked about it to anyone but Charles, who didn't already have a good opinion of him.]

I didn't know what it was about. Or what Erik had done. [That much is defensive. He doesn't want to sound like a villain, offering to break out a killer.] They were the first mutants I'd ever met, you know.

[It's not really an answer, it's just a stall for time.]

[ Her voice isn't defensive or accusatory. But softer, a little quieter. ]

That's not an answer.

[ But already she has an idea. First mutants he had ever met. Of course he'd want to help them out, be around them. It's only natural. ]

[ The sound of claws whistling through the air is the only real warning Nihlus gets. He sidesteps just in time, the pinpoint tips scrapping across the plating of his cowl.

They're fighting? Well. Okay. Guess they're fighting then. ]

Out of your ass, apparently.

[ If Reaper doesn't dodge, he's getting a gutful of armored Turian boot. There's enough force behind the kick to send most humans bouncing a good dozen meters. ]

Why the hell would I know?
takeitslow: ([Uniform])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-07-16 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
No. But maybe I don't have one. Maybe I was just bored and breaking into the Pentagon just sounded like fun.

[She's not far off from the truth. Being around other's with powers, particularly one they said had the same power as someone his mother told him about, it was enticing. Between Charles and Hank, it was so easy to just believe whatever they said. But Peter's not lying either; he was a bored kid looking for a better challenge.]

Maybe I saw an opportunity and took it, and didn't realize how stupid it was until later.

Depends. Do you plan to keep jumping people?

[A joke, but only halfway. A skill like that is useful.]

As for actual help, what we need is reparation, more than anything. If you happen to be an engineer or just somewhat more intelligent than average in some sense, your help would be greatly appreciated.

[Because she Is Tired of having to do so much of the work and in so many waves. She's not alone, but she trusts no one. There's no chance in Hell she'd leave all of the work without a second or even a third pass, not when so many lives are at stake.]

Otherwise, try not to keep scaring people. I'm likely one of the least threatening things here.

[And considering she pulled a knife and had Q ready to dismember him...]
