tl;dr oops

[ God, this was about twenty billion times worse than the meld he'd had with the older Spock after the destruction of Vulcan. That was not one of his best or happiest memories by a long shot, and he's got plenty of badness to pull from in his history but this---

He's having trouble shaking himself out of the emotions, squeezing his eyes shut, and scrubbing his wet hand on his pant leg to get the water off because that has to be it, right? He didn't come in contact with anything else in the last few minutes and boy, Spock would be extremely upset about conclusions pulled out of his ass, so sue him. A voice, a woman's voice startles him out of it partially, and he looks up at her with slightly wild eyes tinged with helplessness.

He forcibly shakes himself mentally, and swallows back a cold lump of what he's feeling. ]

It's the water. [ But then the pool hadn't started glowing like it had until the asteroid came overhead---could it be that too? Or a mixture. ] I don't know if it's just that or something to do with the asteroid.

Just---I wouldn't touch it if I were you.

[ God, he must look like an absolute idiot. He still doesn't feel quite right. He's got echoes of despair, mixed with the echoing scream he remembers hearing from Carol as her father forcibly transported her off the bridge of the Enterprise and sentenced the rest of them to die. Jim?!

He pulls himself up on shaky feet, craning his head up to stare at the asteroid. What in the hell would have caused that? Chemical reaction? I'm sorry. Hand on glass. How do you choose not to feel? ]
