my evil twin, bad weather friend "I know someday I'll meet him, but I don't know where or when."
ABOARD THE MOIRAThe Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and nothing is familiar. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay. Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and offered a contract to sign that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. Any questions you might have would be answered in a straightforward manner as well as an explanation about how the Ingress, the thing that has pulled you onto the Moira, is broken and bringing people here unintentionally. This process also consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand or wrist with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters. Whether adjusting to space travel has been difficult or not, there is always something to be done. From working to leisure, the Moira offers a multitude of opportunities to get to know your crewmates a bit better. Exploration of the ship is highly encouraged. You may notice a slight change in the artificial gravity every once in awhile; however, more noticeable changes can be found in overall morale of those of the crew.
☄ on your ownThere are plenty of other communal areas on the ship to explore! Pick a place, and see where it takes you. ( These scenarios can be used as in-game canon. ) Every day, the ship gets closer to its destination: the Midway Hub.
Answers as to how to the fix the broken Ingress and send everyone home are sought there. Your captains, both old and new, have been working together peacefully to make the trip a little easier, though events occur that are well outside of their control. After having made the last cargo supply stop at the Mini Colony, the Moira and its crew are on the last stretch of its journey. The Ingress, for the majority of the time, is left off and only turned back on during testing; that's when new crew and other items come through.
It's October on the Moira, and it's been far, far too peaceful..
☄ older and far less kindget clowned when I come aroundOn one of the ship's many stops, a group of sentient, flying whale-type natives were stumbled upon. They were friendly, although unfortunately hunted for a substance they produce, and the crew paid a group of mercenaries to keep these beings safe. Now, early afternoon, red lights begin to flash, and Captain Ira makes an announcement. A gam of a less advanced sub-species of those gentle giants is in the ship's path, and crew are told to make their way to the Observation Deck, Tower, and anywhere else that affords them a view of space. When the beings move closer to the Moira, the captains send out non-explosive decoys that can be remotely operated by the crew—lead these beings away from the ship so that the Moira can safely pass through.
☄ graveyard smashi was working in the lab, late one nightLet's set the scene. It's early in the morning. Those who don't sleep or sleep very little already know what's going on as they've been roped into helping by the Captains. Everyone else wakes to a surprise. Some universes celebrate holidays like Halloween or Samhain, and this one is no different. First Mate Egan's home is known for honoring the dead on October 15th of every year, and after approaching the other Captains, they've decided to celebrate it on the Moira. The observation deck is decorated with candles and lights, music playing in the background.
Small gift boxes are left outside everyone's door; a MID message explains that each crew member is to put something inside and then place them on the observation deck. At the end of the day, each crew takes a random box. A device that alters the gravity around a single object is used to make drinks, food, and gifts and float through the air. Everyone is encouraged to relax and have a good time.
☄ section tunfinished business, that's whatThere are many locations on the ship that are inaccessible, either because they are locked unless crew have clearance or for some an unknown reason. Section T is one of those such areas. Crew are known to get lost in this area, and hear voices, among other things. Having this brought to the Captain's attention, an expedition of sorts ghost hunters in space has been organized, and anyone who wishes to join will be paired up and sent in with their MIDs on alert to track their paths. Not long into the search, it will become clear that something, or someone, is displeased with the large number of people wandering through. Some unlucky crew will stumble across an apparition and those who are luckier won't. It's relatively harmless, and appears to only seek to scare everyone out of Section T.

genji shimada | overwatch
['Disoriented and confused' wasn't a state Genji relished being in. He'd had the mind not to attack anyone when he'd been fetched from the Ingress, but to say he'd been cooperative in his muddled state was something of an overstatement. Unknown faces coming to whisk him away to parts even more unknown hadn't exactly been ideal.
Now in the medbay, his dizziness has been dispelled and the situation somewhat clarified, but now there's a new reason for him to drag his heels. A regular veteran of medbays, that didn't exactly make them his ideal hang out spot, and given his... unique condition, he's not quite comfortable with unfamiliar doctors wanting a peek at him. He knows logically, of course, that it's inevitable and honestly for the best; who knows what side effects the Ingress could have left on him. He won't want to step out onto the rest of the ship without knowing that he's in good condition.
But logic doesn't trump emotion. So here he stands, grilling the staff around him for what exactly his check up will entail, from what symptoms they'll be look for to how they'll be looking for them. An ideal patient Genji Shimada is not.]
training simulation room
[Of course Genji had found himself drawn here. He was a warrior, through and through; he had to keep his skills sharp.
But he'd been curious about the limits of the simulation generators, so his training has gotten a bit... odd.
More specifically: here stands Genji, fighting through the back alleys and narrow streets of a sprawling suburbia cluttered with obstacles and objects, going up against... dinosaur thugs in suits with firearms that shoot explosive hearts rather than bullets.
Yeah. He's been laughing the entire time.]
section t
[Missing crew is a concern, not one that Genji can bring himself to ignore. If there's a reason for this section to be locked down, to cause these whispered rumors about it, Genji is intent on figuring out why. And the best way to do that is, as always, through personal experience.
So here he is: traversing the corridors of a supposedly haunted section of the ship, assigned partner at his side. Genji doesn't talk much, more focused on their surroundings, on hearing anything out of place, attempting to verify the rumor of voices. But then, something just on the edge of his hearing, odd yet ambiguous enough to possibly be a mistaken, has him turning to his partner to address them.]
Did you hear something?
[Except the problem is that Genji's voice isn't the only thing that's been silent. When you're a ninja, walking silently becomes a default, and he may have not considered how that could get to someone's nerves.]

medbay natch
And she's positively beaming, even if she'd known how this had gone the last time around. Genji had been stubborn and ornery and he had outright refused her worries, but he doesn't seem to remember his last arrival— it'd been a brief enough blip, and he sounds as though he's at least amenable to the idea of a checkup. ]
Genji, it's so good to see you, old friend. Come here.
[ She reaches for his hands out of gladness, all her worries of his disappearance dispelled with his presence. Angela had scarcely had a word with him before he'd gone, and it just simply hadn't been enough. ]

Dr. Ziegler!
[There's surprise in his tone, but most of all pleasure. If there's anyone Genji can trust to take care of him, it's the woman who brought him back from the brink of death itself.
He lets her take his hands without reservation, curls his fingers around hers. Most of his hesitation is gone, but some yet remains, though now it has a new source: Angela knows him, knew him, and back then Genji hadn't exactly been... kind. Especially to her. He owes her so much. But somewhere as public as a medbay is hardly the place for proper reconciliation, and so he holds himself back.]
It is good to see you as well. You look right at home here.
[Not that it's any surprise, really.]
no subject
Honestly? She doesn't even know where to begin explaining all of this to him. Yet somewhere quieter, somewhere more private would be an immense beginning, so she's taking a moment to look him over— no denting or damage to his body armor, and he seems to be steady on his feet. No dizziness then, which is another plus, but the rest she'd have to ask. ]
Oh, give me a white coat and I'll fit in just about anywhere there are medical tools, no matter where in the stars you may find me. Are you feeling all right...? After the arrival, I mean. No dizziness, nausea, any residual pain or pressure?
There are private exam rooms just over here, if you're fine to walk.
[ Not like she'd be letting go of him in the first place, but she wants to make sure he's doing all right before she's tugging him off anywhere. ]
no subject
I was dizzy when I first arrived, but it has faded since. And I would appreciate the privacy, thank you.
[Compared to his behavior only seconds before, he's done a complete 180. But Angela is a doctor he knows and trusts, and she understands his body like no one else could. He doesn't have to be concerned with unnecessary poking and prodding. He follows her toward one of the rooms without complaint, chuckling as they walk.]
Did you ever consider that one day you might say something like 'no matter where in the stars you may find me'?
no subject
They'd once been necessary to communicate— the language of pain, first and foremost, but she began to learn when he was relaxing, when the pain was easing, when he was calm. Then, eventually, when he was happy, and when he's holding back laughter to preserve a joke. It had all been preferable to the bristling of anger or the slow curl of self-loathing that had sometimes overtaken him. She lets go of one hand and her touch slides up from the other, hooking her arm about his to guide him off to the side. ]
I'm glad; just in here then.
[ Angela's only glad she'd been here to help him. He's led into the small exam room and she shuts the door behind them with her placard on the outside, going so far as to lock it before gesturing to the slightly more comfortable chair on the corner and going for the rolling stool to pull up. ]
Did it sound too romantic? "I saw my chance and I took it", right? Now, where would you like me to start? I don't have too much information on this place, but I have been here for a couple of months. My favorite aspect, though, is having Jesse here. He's grown quite handsome!
[ The rest... well, she didn't need to overwhelm him right off the bat and he also wouldn't really know the rest, and she doesn't want to put too much on him and make him anxious. She'll see how he does with the other information she gives him, and give him the time to speak if she wishes before jumping into examining him. He can make the first move on that front. ]
How have you been?

wildcard on the way to the sim room oooh
[guess who is SKATING OVER and laughing his ass off in delight. spoilers it's this dude.
he digs his heels into the floor, swerving to skid around the cyborg.]
Where you been at, man??
LET'S GET THIS STARTED
More pressing: he's being addressed like he's an acquaintance. He knows Lúcio, of course, the up and rising artist who led a rebellion against Vishkar, but why Lúcio knows Genji is a different question. Genji's tone is equal parts apologetic and confused when he responds.]
I apologize, but I don't know what you mean. I only arrived recently.
YAAAS
how does he play this off? lúcio breaks back into a friendly grin, holding his hands out.]
...wobbly timey stuff with the portal! Never mind!! Are you okay?
[nailed it]
no subject
Genji doesn't even bother trying to hide his confusion, head tilting with his unspoken question, but at the very least he's willing to let it go. He's definitely going to ask about 'wobbly timey stuff' later but for now it's all good.]
I'm fine, thank you. Coming through was... unpleasant, [and there's a brief note of distaste to back up that understatement,] but I am all right now.
But I have to say, I'm somewhat flattered. I never thought a celebrity would know my name.
[His face might be hidden, but the amusement is clear in his voice.]
no subject
[fuck FUCK okay lúcio sighs lightly.]
Honestly? I thought you were here before. Then one day you up and disappeared and here you are again!

[She jets above him, hanging in the air a moment to fire off a concussive shot to clear his six, and alights on a nearby roof.]
You have quite the imagination, Genji.
no subject
I was very fond of cartoons when I was younger. It's refreshing to see how flexible this room can be.
[A duck under the swipe of one thug's claws, and a quick strike with his short blade makes work of the hologram.]
Of course, you are free to customize it as you see fit. I understand if these enemies are perhaps a little too... distracting.
[It's obvious he's struggling not to start laughing again as he says it.]

[She jets into the air, following behind him and picking off outliers. She misses her rocket launcher, but it's good to get out and work on how to deal without it. She hovers down and lands, following along beside him and engaging in hand to hand grappling with the suit-bearing heart-shooting dinosaurs. With her armor she's a little more evenly matched against the scraping claws.]
Besides, you never know what you are going to encounter out here.
no subject
You sound as though you have experience! Don't get my hopes up. I will be crushed if we never encounter dinosaur gangsters now.
[Teasing, obviously. Three shuriken sink into a dinosaur attempting to strike Pharah from behind; he'll have to retrieve them once the sim ends, but for now he turns back to the fight.]
You'll have to tell me what you've seen. It wouldn't do to let myself get caught off guard.
no subject
Recently we were on an island with bug-people who tricked us into partying for a year.
[A small velociraptor in a fedora and spats leaps up at Genji, but before he lands Pharah's able to grab its tail and jet into the air, lobbing it at a group of its fellows.]

Try not to get yourself loved out there, Genji.

She's older and missing an eye, but Genji would be hard-pressed not to recognize Ana Amari when he's looking her straight in the face.]
Miss Amari - !
[His surprise nearly gets him hit, but he manages to recover fast enough to hop back from the detonation of a heart. Forget the training exercise, though, because he's immediately making a beeline for her.]
How - ? They said you were dead.
[Which, in hindsight, is rich coming from a guy who was nearly murdered by his own brother.]

[No point in not playing it off mysteriously to begin with. However, his speed was always pretty amazing. Which was why she wasn't surprised when he was with her in mere moments. Though he was loaded with questions, which left Ana with her own in return.]
You happen to be looking well too, considering how troubled you seemed the last I saw you. What changed?
medbay
[That sure is a big, sudden, booming voice behind the poor guy. How in the world someone as huge as Reinhardt managed to show up here, out of nowhere, is anyone's guess. But here he is. Gleefully greeting a comrade.]
[Stepping up beside him to thump a huge, heavy hand on a shoulder.]
You have returned to us!
no subject
Reinhardt!
[The joy is clear in Genji's voice. It feels good to have Reinhardt clap him on the shoulder again, even if Genji, as always, finds himself having to brace against the weight. But Reinhardt is always a boon for the spirit, and now is no exception.]
It is good to see you again. The years seem to have treated you well, my friend.
no subject
Of course they have! I should say the same of you, my friend!
[What indoor voice?]
[He's glad to see him. Volume control can wait. In the wake of news about Reyes, more friendly faces are always welcome. Especially those that aren't homicidal traitors.]
section t
Genji doesn't know it, but 76 is less bothered by ninja bullshit than he lets on--partially because he's secretly used to it.
He doesn't answer right away, only holds up his hand to signal that they should stop walking. It's mostly so he can get a read on things, listening carefully for any noise in the corridor now that his own footsteps aren't distracting him.
76 is quiet, listening, until he picks up what Genji detected. Then, he's hefting his gun and waving them both on again, with little fanfare.]
This way.
no subject
Genji nods, follows as 76 leads on. He's not particularly fussed about who leads, and likely it's better this way; Genji may not have been keeping particular track of the affairs of Overwatch after he left, but both the collapse and the rise of Soldier: 76 in the wake of it had been difficult to ignore. This is a man known to assault Overwatch bases for mysterious reasons, among other unsavory deeds, and Genji is certainly not about to show his back to him.
It goes unspoken, of course. Whatever else, right now they have a job to do, and Genji isn't going to muddle that by kicking up a fight before he's been given a direct reason to.]
Are you superstitious, Soldier?
[But it doesn't mean he can't be cheeky about it.]
no subject
Not especially.
[Not exactly in the way Genji is referring to, at least. He’s seen a great deal of very strange things in his time, but he’s still a little hard-pressed to believe that there’s an actual for-real space ghost floating around the corridors, not when there’s a very simple explanation for what everyone has been talking about.]
It’s just someone screwing around.
[And he has a pretty good idea who that ‘someone’ might be, even if he doesn’t voice it. He’ll tell himself that Reaper isn’t a real ghost, even if he’s not sure about the nature of his powers.]
