Now, onto the main chunk of this update: Arc II info and what that means for you as players. We'd like to apologize if the movement of things has seemed slow or stagnant as we've tried to shift everything into this newer setting, but we felt it would be less jarring this way than not giving anyone any warning whatsoever before it happened. Between now and February 1st, all new pages will be completed and posted for players to see—both for plotting purposes and to officially begin the new arc. There will be a post in both the OOC comm and on the mod plurk to announce when this happens! On February 1st, there will also be an intro log detailing everything planned for that month. This means that there will only be one official "log" per month, but all the info in it will extend from the beginning to the end. Players are free to decide what to do with that information. Aside from this, we ask that players think about their own plots and to submit them to us as well! We really intend to focus more on the effects of the PCs on Thisavrou as a whole in addition to the overarching metaplot of the game.

We have also noticed that players are concerned about their characters being unable to interact with one another due to the fact that Thisavrou is spread out. With this in mind, each TAB will be fitted with an application that is monitored by characters' Ingress techs called The Dislocation Program. Each month, the character will need to have someone else sign stating that they connected with another traveler and list what they have done together. This can be handwaved, but we hope this will help with players who have characters who would really not interact with other characters or are very limited in that aspect. The other person can be someone they knew from before, on the Moira, or a new character introduced into the game.

If there are any questions about events, please ask in the comments below.

From the Q&A we held a while ago, we introduced the beastiary. We would also like your help with this! We have listed two of the creatures found on Thisavrou, but there is room for much, much more. If you have suggestions or would like to create something that can be found on Thisavrou (on either planet), please fill out the textbox below and submit it to us. If using creatures from existing canons, we ask that you give them different names and attributes as they would have adapted differently over a lengthy period of time to Thisavrou's environment.

APPLICATIONS & RESERVES

We know that many of you are excited for this, so we thought we would address this here as well! None of the new pages have yet to reflect any of these dates, but they will be changed accordingly. From much discussion between the mods, as well as with the new way we are handling events and other parts of the game, we have decided to once again change up our reserve and application process to (hopefully) better serve the game as well as players who are interested in being part of Thisavrou. Both applications and reserves will be left open permanently with reserves lasting a week and applications being processed on Fridays. This change will not go into effect until we have rolled over into the new arc. Test Drives will also be held on the same day every month (the 15th) with the exception of February.

Important dates for this month:
Test Drive Meme: February 5th
Reserves Open: February 5th
Applications Open: February 12th

After the initial opening of applications in February, they will remain open along with reserves. This also means that there will not be an application cap either. However, this is all subject to change if we feel that it isn't working, but we will, as always, let you know if that happens to be the case!

Thank you for being patient with us! We hope you're as excited as we are about all the up-and-coming changes!

NAME: Formerly known as “Protectors” or “Big Daddies” in Rapture, known as Grievers on Thisavrou.
LINK TO PICTURE(S): Here! (Warning for extreme body horror)
BLURB: Formerly denizens of Rapture, the Grievers of Thisavrou have shed their diving armor, revealing the extensive genetic degradation beneath. They can be found roaming the wilds of Thisavrou (or wherever the mods see fit) and are unaggressive to most passersby. However, attacking them will provoke an intense rage that will not end until they have killed their assailant. They do not speak, but make a loud, low wailing sound that has earned them their Thisavrounian name. They also retain vestiges of their original conditioning, and have the unfortunate tendency to follow wandering children (or anyone of particularly small stature) and occasionally attempt to pick them up and shove them into tree hollows. Attacking this child (or small person) in their line of sight will provoke the same violent rage as attacking the Griever himself.

NAME: Known as Splicers in Rapture, known as Spitelings on Thisavrou
LINK TO PICTURE(S): Here, here, and here! (Body horror warning for all three)
BLURB: Spitelings share a habitat with Grievers, though their behavior is very different. They are hostile to any sentient beings who are not part of their own clan and will often fight each other for resources. Though they appear entirely insane and incoherent to outsiders, they apparently possess knowledge of how to create ADAM, a drug known for inducing genetic anomalies and degenerating its users’ minds. They occasionally carry off children into the wilderness, often never to be seen again, and it is rumored that these children are used in some ghastly process to create the drug. Splicers are often stronger and faster than the average human, and some possess elemental abilities, such as striking enemies with fireballs, bolts of electricity, and blasts of freezing ice.

NAME: Known as "gridbugs" in the Tronverse, and "glowbugs" (or just bugs) in thisavrou
LINK TO PICTURE(S): Link, link, link, link!

BLURB: Spawned from faults in digital realities, these system errors flooded through the Ingress during a mistake in early testing, and have since taken up residence on the surface of Chioni. While unconcerned with organic life, glowbugs will swarm technology, seeking to gorge themselves on power sources and destroy code. Isolated research stations and unguarded branches of the EN-Line are frequently harassed by these pests. However, the bugs are drawn to uncertainty, and will mount full-scale incurisions against even the largest settlements to target some kinds of synthetic life.

Physically, glowbugs vary widely, ranging from a few centimeters in length to three or four times the size of an average humanoid. They have an average of four legs, each tipped in claws, and very sharp cutting jaws. When killed, they shatter into small glowy cubes of data, which disappear not long after. While they can be contained, the bugs make terrible pets—they exist only to chew up code and drain power, and are too mindless to be trained otherwise.

NAME: Kh'Chat
LINK TO PICTURE(S): Link
BLURB: The Kh'Chat are carbon based lifeforms that resemble rocks. The young are about the size of pebbles (please don't step on us!) with the elders growing to the size of large boulders.

Gentle in nature, they have a mischievous streak and love to play with humanoids, the biggest issue being that rock vs flesh the humanoid often ends up inadvertently bruised. The Kh'Chat themselves are incredibly strong, think diamond type strength.

Mobile only in that they can roll, the youngsters will happily travel in pockets, providing commentary about any local landmarks or spots of interest. They are excellent navigators and can help the uninitiated get around. The only drawback is the elder rocks have the ability to cause minor timeshifts, particularly if they get caught up in a conversation they find fascinating. Oh, you only meant to stop by for five minutes? Well, five hours later ...

Five hours is the maximum amount of time the Kh'Chat can shift time.

NAME: Gredlanan
LINK TO PICTURE(S): Link!
BLURB: This marine reptile inhabits rivers and lakes across both planets. It prefers to stay near the water's bottom until it needs to feed on schools of fish, smaller reptiles, and the occasional warm-blooded creature that enters its domain. These creatures are solitary and relatively territorial, but are more curious than aggressive. Their bones and hide are incredibly durable, and their meat is edible but not very palatable. Their curiosity puts them at a moderate threat level: their teeth and jaws are strong enough to crush rocks into the pebbles they use to build their nests and are more than capable of harming an ordinary human.

NAME: Zait
LINK TO PICTURE(S): Link!
BLURB: These birdlike creatures flit around the planets during the early morning and afternoon. They come in a wide range of pastel colors, including white and grey. The feathers along their chests are iridescent, the males sporting extra shimmering feathers on their inner wings. They communicate with one another mostly in almost insectoid clicking sounds, but use loud screeches to warn a flock of danger. They are curious and are attracted to anything that shines or glitters, often stealing small objects to add to their nests. They eat many small insects, first crushing them with their mandibles before sucking out the nutrients they need with their proboscis. They can also be found hovering around flowering shrubs and trees, searching for nectar. They are central to the pollination of the planets.

With respect to applications, does that mean that someone could apply for a new character every weekly cycle, or?
hohnkai: (Default)

[personal profile] hohnkai 2017-01-26 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It does mean that anyone is welcome to app each week. However, there is currently a character limit of 3 in the game per player, unless it can been proven over a period of time (with activity) that a player can be active enough with more, and that isn't going to change moving into the new arc.

What's the IC reason given for the Dislocation program? If a character wanted to run off and hermit, why wouldn't they be allowed to-- and what would happen if they refused? Similarly, is there anything to stop characters from ICly getting their interaction done with a handwaved NPC (say, their landlord, or a random grocery store attendant)?
hohnkai: (Default)

[personal profile] hohnkai 2017-01-26 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The IC reason for the Dislocation Program is to combat the feeling of not being connected to anything that can come from prolonged space travel. If a character wants to run off and hermit, then that's their choice. We aren't going to force anyone to do anything. Their tech would try to find them and get them out there, but again, we as mods, and also the Savrii, aren't going to "make" them. To your last question, there isn't. This is for the players who want to use it as a way to get their characters out. If you want to have your character ignore it or get their landlord to sign, then that's okay! But this is for the players who need a little more than what will come up in events.

Also, even when on the Moira, no characters were forced to do anything. The environment might have been smaller, but there were still characters that chose to hermit and ignore what was going on around them. Each event was setup so that players could be involved if they wanted, but it was never mandatory until the ship crashed and everyone went down together. The upcoming events will have all the previous elements plus the opportunities for characters to do more. I hope this helps!

Info very much appreciated!

Comment/feedback-wise, I'm not sure I see a lot of purpose in the Dislocation program as you've described it here. If a character is ICly inclined to stay connected with others, they're not likely to need (or appreciate) Savrii following them around with a form to sign to make sure it's happened. If a character is ICly inclined to go it solo, then the program will have equally little effect-- they won't choose to participate, and the savrii won't make them.

You describe it as a tool for helping players ICly force their characters to do things, but if no IC forcing is going on, then... no IC forcing is going on. Which isn't to say any should be; it'd be ridiculous and intrusive to have people tracking you down to make you socialize. Concerns about the planetary distance are a different issue, but if characters living continents apart from others can just fill their "connection quota" with the NPCs they live with, this doesn't really do much there either-- a player can want their character to move back with the group, but this wouldn't make it any more IC.

Hey again!

Just a reminder that characters won't come in thinking that the Savrii are nice or unassuming. Most will recall past experiences on the Moira and in general, which will mean that not all of the crew are going to look at the Dislocation program and think that they should just skip out on it. What if the Savrii aren't as nice as they seem? Things like that have to be taken into consideration. There will be characters that do it because they want to, out of fear, respect, there are a million different reasons, but.

This isn't going to be the only aspect of the game that helps players get their characters out there. Every character wants something and Thisavrou opens up to new worlds and opportunities that allow for that character to get it. When everything rolls over and the events start up, players can see how everything works and will have to, like before, be creative with what they do in a game setting. If changes need to be made, or more added, then we'll do that when it comes up. But there's already going to be so much for players to get into, that we remain optimistic that it won't be as big a problem as some may think.

If you have suggestions for things you might want to run in the new setting or things you'd want to do, please comment to the feedback page or pm one of us.

Oh, absolutely agreed on the distrust front-- I'm just saying that if a character is inclined to distrust the Savrii and stick with the people they know, being asked to sign a form for them reporting interactions doesn't seem likely to do much but add to that resentment. (And those characters probably aren't the ones that need help with CR regardless.)

That said, you're right that different characters will do things different ways. Sorry if I replied to the wrong place-- I took the "comments" part to mean this wasn't just for questions. My bad, and I'll keep that in mind for the future!

Can we suggest "creatures" that are technically-maybe-human to the Beastiary page? Specifically, I was wondering if I could suggest Big Daddies and splicers (body horror warning, x, x, x), both of which are technically human, but heavily modified genetically. In terms of sentience, Big Daddies are near-mindless and care only to protect Little Sisters, while Splicers are often capable of speech, but deranged enough that they rarely make sense and will attack anyone unfamiliar on sight. Would either of these be allowed as "creatures" on Thisavrou?
hohnkai: (Default)

[personal profile] hohnkai 2017-01-26 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Suggesting creatures that are humanoid is possible! Like we mentioned in the above post, things that already exist in a canon are welcome, but we ask that you modify them in a way that they aren't exactly as they exist in that canon. It is likely that either of these be found on the less-populated planet of Chioni, and if you're still unsure, you can wait until the pages are up to get an idea of what to suggest. The beastiary will be ever-evolving, so there isn't at timeline for that.
