It's event time!
October

Hello everybody! It's time for our first on ship event. Events that run during on-ship months will be a bit more free form than on-planet months. This just means that we'll have all the information here and everyone can do whatever they'd like with it; posts, logs, and plotting out fun interactions.

October 17th - October 20th

Really early in the morning on the seventeenth, the ship runs into a storm. If you are awake, you might notice that the power goes out for about an hour before coming back on. Luckily the Moira's backup generators kick in during that time so the crew aren't in the dark or without life support. The captains send out a message through the MIDs telling everyone not to worry, the storm will be over soon. Anyone with a view of space will see that the area around the ship seems to be electric, crackling and sparking with soft purple spikes of light.

By the afternoon, the storm has passed, and everything will be back to normal; somebody has turned on the radio in the mess hall. It seems to be a rather anti-climactic end to a storm that knocked out the power. That evening, everyone will find a mask inside their post box; each mask will have their name on it. These are gifts found in the cargo hold, and given as a present from the captains. A little bit of art and fun to gloss over what they hope no one has noticed.

That during the storm, the energy breached the cargo hold, but as far as they are aware, has done no damage. They encourage everyone to wear them and enjoy themselves, but at appropriate levels of course.

The Masks:

Mask One: the wearer of this mask will suddenly have the ability to read other’s minds. If they focus they can even see memories from the other person’s past. Their behavior will be largely unchanged during the event, except for a noticeable difference in how curious they are. They will really want to know more about each person they come across.

Mask Two: the wearer of this mask will be able to shapeshift into an animal and can change back at any point. There is no limit to the number of times they can change, but while transformed they will exhibit some of the behaviors of the animal they’ve changed into.

Mask Three: the wearer of this mask will be able to manipulate emotions. They’ll discover that they can cause others to become sad, happy, mischievous, just by willing them to be. The only downside is that whatever emotion they place on another, they will feel twice fold until they stop. They have complete control over how and when they use their new abilities.

Mask Four: the wearer of this mask will be like royalty during this event. They will have the ability to command others to do their bidding, and the person will be obliged to do so. The side effects of wearing this mask is that the wearer will be noticeably more arrogant and believe themselves to be better than everyone else.

Mask Five: the wearer of this mask will appear to be the most graceful and beautiful person to anyone they come across. They will succeed at anything they endeavor to do, almost as if they are now brimming with luck that knows no bounds. Their behavior will be demure and pleasant, but ultimately very motivated to succeed in whatever they choose.

OOCly you will pick one of the masks described above and sign your character(s) up for it; this will be the mask that was placed inside their box. Each character will be affected in the manner described next to each mask, and will be that way whether they continue to wear the mask or not until the event is over. On the 20th, the captains will come to the conclusion that the masks were affected by the storm and ask for them to be returned. They will dispose of them and everyone will go back to normal.

Do you have to have a mask or can you have someone curious as to what's causing this?

What happens if two characters are wearing the same mask?

- If two characters come across one another wearing the same mask, a few different things might happen (which is up to the players to decide). The masks will cancel each other out and won't work while they're together. or The powers will fluctuate and take turns working. or One character's abilities will be stronger and overpower the other.

So I was thinking about mask 2, but I was wondering if it was limited to what animals the wearer knows themselves, or if it's just a flat out 'you become this thing'?

Basically, Tali grew up in space - if you ask her to picture animals, she'll probably only be able to muster up vague memories of alien animals she saw one time, or pictures. With that in mind, I was thinking of her only being able to turn into either twisted mis-remembered fake-animals (is that a monkey or a bear? We just don't know, and neither does she), or to fuck up the transformations in various ways (maybe she'll only have the head of an antelope because that's all she can remember or idk something something).

Or she can just turn into a chipmunk and have no goddamn idea what just happened, I am very happy with either one of these things.

For this event he will have mask number two. He'll be able to become animals!

Basically I'm thinking it'd be really fun to have him show up in various forms and have that kind of interaction with people. Could be a dog, cat, mouse. ALIEN DOG. Anything would be awesome.

I'm open to new and old CR and would love to try new stuff out. If anyone has an animal preference, they should let me know, because I'm thinking of doing a catch-all log for both Eggsy and David for this event.

Plotting Post: Starflight

Starflight will be getting Mask One, and as he has been waiting his entire life to develop mind-reading powers he will be absolutely over the moon about it! He will probably be the happiest person with sudden mind-reading abilities on the ship.

Aside from the extra curiosity, Starflight is going to be way more confident and smug than normal since he is finally a proper NightWing and everyone knows NightWings are superior to everyone. It will probably become very annoying to anyone who has to spend any significant amount of time with him. I'll be posting an open log for anyone unfortunate enough to have Kitchen Duty during the time frame if you're interested.

If you would like to do something specific with Starflight, or don't want him to be reading your character's mind, or anything at all, let me know.

Simon is getting Mask 5, so... medbay he is home now and looking so handsome and also his waistcoat opened??? He will be successful at any needed wound care or disease curing, and when he's on kitchen duty? BE PREPARED FOR THE BEST DAMN MEALS EVER, CREW.

Hmm I'm trying to get back into things with jadzia, and she happens to work in the medway too. She has Mask One although I'm not sure EXACTLY what I want to do with that just yet.

BUT I would totally be interested in some medbay shenannigans....Jadzia is generally pretty interested in other people but the mask is going to make her extra curious, and Simon be AMAZINGLY SKILLED is going to make her even MORE interested.

Plotting for Wanda

Wanda will have Mask 5 so super wiggly woo mode activate. She's probably going to be using her telekinesis a bit more, so if you have mess hall duty on Saturday or Tuesday, this is probably some of the most stylish cleaning you've ever seen.

Also, Wanda is a not-quite-natural telepath, so please feel free to have telepathic conversations with her! She will be aware if your character is poking around in her head and her power permissions post is here.

Okay joking aside Loki has mask five! Which he is actually going to be oddly unhappy about because this is not who he is, and Loki has a bad problem with identity crises and manipulating people. But he'll be using the luck portion of the whole deal to explore around the ship, find all the secret hiding places- including the library, where he has permission to hide one of the reading rooms and make himself a tiny lair.

Also please let me know if you want to read Loki's mind, because one he's kind of a god of concealing things and two it's not a very pleasant place up there.
