Arc III Arrival (OOC)
| Welcome to Arc III! |
| The dust is settling, characters have arrived in the new setting, and there's work to be done...but also the opportunity to rest. This month, characters will have the opportunity to explore their new home base and learn about the changes that await them before travel to other world resumes. Players are encouraged to use the new locations page and the arrival log's highlighted points of interest as a guide to the setting, but you are absolutely not limited to those. Along with asking any general questions you have, you are invited to use this post to ask questions regarding specific activities your character might undertake in the new setting. (Ex. "They spend two straight weeks flipping through every printed book in the library—what's the No. 1 most interesting thing they can find?") We'd like to note that some locations may undergo changes as characters explore and improve things—we will be updating as we go depending where they focus their time and attention. The Locations page, Housing page, and FAQ should be more or less up to date, but other game info pages will be expanded and spruced up in the immediate future. Please pardon our dust, and feel free to let us know if you spot anything seriously out of order! Some fun things are planned—we hope you enjoy the ride. |

| While things will be much calmer this month compared to the last two, a much lower-key surprise awaits characters later in October. If you would like to participate in this miniplot, please comment here to list one thing your character misses, enjoys, or would like to see from home. (Those who play multiple characters can choose one for each.) It can be an item, such as a favorite book, or it can be a concept, such as the smell of one's kitchen back home. It does not have to be from the character's canon point. However, it cannot be sentient. We're also glad to announce that the promised player plotting page is up! This form is intended to provide a more structured way of pitching plots you'd like to run or general ideas you want to suggest for possible mod-run plots. We do not intend to have a rigid schedule for player plots; their frequency will depend on the number of plots submitted and the scope of each, as well as what we have planned for mod-provided plot in a given month. Due to the combination of last minute modwork and last minute apps, processing for new arrivals is taking slightly longer than expected. Watch this comm—or our modplurk—for an update and an OOC intro post when acceptances go out! We'll be getting to that as quickly as we can; thanks very much for your patience! -Is it possible to find books on accelerating the growth of plants in the gardens/using the automated systems? And are there seed banks of other plants.
-Are there any journals made by civilians that came from Sav to the station? Or any from generations that followed? If so generically what would they say? (How was their day to day life? Was there conflicts and power struggles? Were they planning on making an escape? Do they just abruptly end without resolution or do they say they left?)
-What sort of stories about what Mother was would be available?
-Would there be research into escape vessels / post-explosion Ingress activities and if so, what?

With one exception: A thick, hand-bound book that appears to be a transcribed oral history of something known as the "great catastrophe." Careful reading will reveal that this catastrophe is almost certainly Mother's betrayal and destruction of the Ingress, although the speakers whose words are recorded never knew what exactly happened. Although the book includes a wide variety of perspectives, overall it speaks of a panicked evacuation of the twin planets toward the complex, which was the only apparent place of refuge despite being the origin point of whatever happened. Hundreds made it to the Complex and quickly organized in the aftermath. Panic threatened to break out multiple times, but the calming influence of at least one individual with "the power of the mind" helped the surviving refugees work together to make use of what was available to them. Many pages are devoted to a rather dry recounting of resource lists, supply levels and engineering plans as the group began to adapt the Complex to suit its needs.
A curious thing: toward the end of the book, several accounts mention "passages of light" that appeared without warning, at irregular intervals spanning a period of months. They are first mentioned with curiosity and even awe, but a shorter, somewhat curt account names several beings who stepped through one of the passages and did not return. The remaining mentions of the passages are laced with suspicion and fear.
The book ends a few pages later without warning or conclusion.

Would you say the book carries a tone that's more practical (aka boring, such as detailed accounts of mundane activities) or is it more something that was meant to be read and reread? For instance, would a reader have any reason to wonder that the events being described might be embellished for entertainment purposes?
