Patch Notes

From time to time we come across things to change about the game that aren't major issues, but still make for quality of life improvements to the game. Since we're a bunch of gamer nerds, we joked that they essentially function as patch notes...and then the joke became real! Here's what we have for this month:

• AC Update: Going forward, players who submit activity after the listed deadline (whether or not the warning list is up yet) will be unable to request a bonus reward. This is being implemented as both a time-saver on your mods' side and an incentive to get activity in early. While not in effect for this current round of activity, it will apply to the upcoming AC posted at the start of November.
  
  
• Page Updates - Resurge/Refresh, Navigation: Your modteam appreciates your patience as we catch up to the arc change.. and now has two more pages to throw your way! While a few links on the Navigation are still listed as WIP, the menu itself should be fully functional at this point. The Resurge/Refresh page, on the other hand, is deliberately sparse on detail.
  
  Avagi has neither the technology nor the helpful technicians who previously resurrected the dead, and ICly, characters are entirely unaware of how—or if—they might return. OOCly, we can reassure you (yes, they will), and the mechanics of the page itself work similarly for both death requests and canon updates. However, the method by which a character resurges, along with some consequences thereof, will be discovered through their first implementation.
  
  
• Applications and New Arrivals: Those checking out our updated calendar will notice that despite applications closing on the 31st as usual, acceptances are not being sent out the day after. Due to an increase in last-minute apps and the time generally required to review, process, and deal with revisions, the modteam is switching to an acceptance window. Acceptances will now go out en masse by the 3rd of each new month... but may show up sooner if the work gets done early.

Plot Update: TABs(?)

In Arc III's arrival log, we mentioned that the network was undergoing difficulties, and suggested the more technology-inclined characters address the problem ICly. As demonstrated by the recent plot post, our playerbase has more than risen to the challenge.

One result of this plotting frenzy is simple: between modifications to the network transmitter and adaptation of the comms devices on hand, the network will be fully functional on October 15. However, the previous TAB system is ill-equipped to handle the transition. As discovered during the fight against the Savrii, it also possesses several hardwired backdoors and glaring flaws in data security.

Arc I had the Moira Interpersonal Devices (MIDs). Arc II used the Thisavrou Audiovisual Badges (TABs). In Arc III, technically minded characters are creating the system for mass use—and consequently, we're asking the players of these characters to call some of the shots.

Restoring the network will involve hybridizing technology to create a new brand of communicator. We encourage all interested players to discuss the project on the plot post linked above, and comment on this post with their solutions. Your mods will be compiling the information presented here to create a new page for these communicators. A few questions to consider might include:

• What do we call it?: Give your project a name!
  
  
• What do they look like?: Size, shape, color? Flip phone, tablet, bracelet, ID? Hardware people, have fun.
  
  
• How are they distributed?: Due to the game's nature as, well, an RP game, it will be assumed that a stockpile of extra devices is created and available where newcomers can receive them. However, if your character or characters want to involve themselves personally or organize an IC system for distribution, they're more than welcome to do so!
  
  
• Anon or No Anon?: With the biosignature technology on-hand, it wouldn't be too difficult to ensure that individuals using the network can only do so as themselves. That said, maybe your technicians respect the value of anonymity. Or maybe they want to preserve enough backdoors that they can use a fake ID themselves. Discuss!

To be clear: all of the above are optional discussion questions. Players are not obligated to decide them, and the modteam can make up a "consensus" to have been ICly worked out if it proves necessary. That said, it's your group, and we'd like to give the plotting players a chance to steer this one if they have interest. Let us know what you're up to!

Plot Update: Locations

In addition to the network plotting, we've had a few players come to us with notes that their characters would be interested in making improvements to a certain area of Avagi. In particular, the Greenery is under renovations by Lavellan and his friends, and Medbay is being worked on by Adrien. This kind of modification is both welcome and encouraged. While no outside force exists to assign jobs on Avagi, characters are welcome to take that role for themselves, and take over the management of different spaces to whatever degree they can maintain it.

To accommodate for this, we'd like to offer a way to record your characters' progress. If players submit summaries of their characters' efforts under the header below, your modteam will do our best to take the information into account. This may involve notes in upcoming plot, minor edits to the location page, or the creation of specific sub-pages linked off the main one. If you have interest in the latter, please offer as much information as you can. Also keep in mind that while some information can be player-editable (say, through a linked spreadsheet), the page itself does need to be a mod creation that would sustain itself should any one player drop.

While leadership and coordination will make a difference, individual efforts are also welcome. If your character has something they would like to contribute to a space independent of what others might be organizing, feel free to drop off a note about that as well!

Drop off comments using the form below if you would like your characters' effect on the setting to be noted! Keep in mind that not all changes require noting; if your character spends a long time organizing one particular shelf in the library, for instance, that would be unlikely to have much effect on the space or setting at large. In general, modifications to private quarters can also be left off unless they have any reason to spill over into the general surroundings.

Characters are welcome to work under leadership or individually, and are in no way compelled to consolidate their work. That said, we do ask that players be mindful OOCly of what else might be going on within an area. Is your character(s) taking charge of the area? Not purposely. He'll be in the area fairly often and he's not trying to keep it a secret or anything but he has no intention to formally organize anything unless it becomes necessary.
Does your character(s) want help?: Always! As I posted in the OOC comm, plant starters are needed in order to get the place thriving again, and any help in clearing out the mess in general is always welcome. In general though he's doing it mostly to keep himself occupied and any way other people elect to assist him is just a bonus.

What changes are they making?: Converting a couple of the more insulated lab areas into classroom spaces. (Likely some of the more run-down ones so he's not using supplies we may still need otherwise!)
Is your character(s) taking charge of the area? Yes, but only of the converted potions. I'll be making an OOC post here soonish (and update as need be), and an IC one as soon as the network is able to handle it! He's down there all the time too, so he's not terribly hard to find.
Does your character(s) want help?: OOC post here. Ideally yes, he can absolutely use help (esp if you're inclined to physical labor), and he'll be eventually IC re-gauging interest in teaching, etc. once he has the ability to do so!

What changes are they making?: Taking over some larger areas that could possibly be used for living quarters but aren't right now. Possibly some kind of hangar bay/storage area. High ceilings, good light (or at least there will be once he gets it set up) Bringing in work stations with various tools. At first just hand tools, eventually including power tools and safety equipment. The whole area is going to be well sound-proofed. The purpose of this space is to manufacture and repair things made out of metal.
Is your character(s) taking charge of the area? Yes. It's his workshop. He's calling it his workshop and will spend most of his time there when he isn't busy doing other things or making house calls.
Does your character(s) want help?: He's already made a network address inviting people to help. He's also willing to teach anybody who wants to work on small electronics or metalwork. He will also be subtly (or not-so-subtly, depends on how well I can play it) sussing people out to see if they are potential allies for whatever mischief he may get up to.

What changes are they making?: Raeka intends to salvage any useable equipment she can find and fix up whatever else she can to get an actual laboratory at least mostly operational. Her focus will mainly be on supporting the Greenery, and she'll try to set up a hydroponics garden in the lab that she can keep a closer eye on.
Is your character(s) taking charge of the area? She isn't taking charge of the entire lab, just the greenery related projects that she's overseeing. Other scientists doing different science stuff are more than free to use other parts of the lab. Her time will be split between the lab and the greenery, likely with a majority of her time spent in the lab. Like literally, she only needs an hour of sleep a night so she's practically going to live there.
Does your character(s) want help?: Help is always welcome, come at me bros. People who can help repair equipment and clean up or run errands would be excellent, as would other science nerds to assist with nerd related activities.

What changes are they making?: Making room for heavier-duty metalworking and electrical work, primarily. He has a handful of tools and tech that made it back with him in his pacdisc, so that stuff will be sprawled around, along with some tools/devices he managed to salvage and find useful in the abandoned lab. So basically, developing a space more suited for mechanical/electrical engineering than traditional science work. This will also be where Dum-E lives so people are free to interact with a very stupid robot if they want to!
Is your character(s) taking charge of the area? Only insofar as he's dumping all his crap there and spending most of his time there, but he won't shoo anyone out or be particularly territorial either - he'll be treating it more like the communal engineering workspaces from the Moira.
Does your character(s) want help?: He won't solicit help, but won't turn it down from skillful hands, either. Also, please validate his bad music choices when he blasts 1980s rock music for everyone in the lab to suffer through.

Greenery - taskbots

What changes are they making?: Mei will try to reprogram the taskbots to properly water what's already there based on how much water they need.
Is your character(s) taking charge of the area? Not at all. She's just handling the robotic component.
Does your character(s) want help?: She would love help in identifying plants and their water needs. Otherwise she'll be doing research to figure out what plant is what and looking up stats to see how much water they need.

Mei will be entirely capable of modifying the taskbots, though the process may prove slow going. As noted in this response, the bots are mismatched and generally in need of repair; what works on one taskbot may not work on others. Her plant identification studies will also have hardships, largely due to the terrible condition of the remaining plants. That said, search of the library will turn up a few texts that might help.

Character Name(s): Adrien Arbuckal I did an OOC open call for contributions, & have also reached out IC to other characters and will reach out IC once the communication network is back up.
What changes are they making?: Cleaning up, taking inventory, repairing what they can at this time, Adrien had an extensive inventory of small medical equipment items in his Pacdisc approved from Arc I that came with him, which he'll be putting out for everybody's use. So bulking up MedBay's useable equipment, diagnostic tools, R & D tools. Medicine will still be scarce until they can work out a way to replenish their meager supplies, which is in the OOC request and will also be in the IC request.
Is your character(s) taking charge of the area? Yes, because in his mind this is an area that needs coverage. He will be in there pretty much 24/7 because he's a workaholic and it's his 'coping' mechanism.
Does your character(s) want help?: Yes! As stated in the OOC post, he will take any and all assistance from anyone with medical/healing knowledge and anyone simply willing to come and help. His hope would be to establish a reliable medical team so he doesn't have to be in there 24/7, and also because he knows that different patients have different needs.

What changes are they making?: Converting it into an adults-only lounge/sex club. There will be a large public lounge area, eventually serving alcohol and various tobacco products. Once it's finished to Erik's satisfaction it will have a very high-end Mid Century Modern look. Going off from the main room will be a variety of themed private areas in the previously soundproofed rooms that patrons can access if they want. There will be no stairs throughout the entire area, except to Erik's own private room because screw you, Charles
Is your character(s) taking charge of the area? Yes. He'll be there when he's not at the workshop (so as the major wave of repairs wraps up, he'll be spending more time at the club). It will be clear by the giant ornate M monogram on the front door.
Does your character(s) want help?: Not at this point. If the joint gets really hopping or he gets bored/has other things he wants to do, then he'll look for people to help him.

What changes are they making?: He is cleaning up the place and installing as many scent absorbents as he can find. There will be notes scribbled in marker all over the place as future reference for anyone who decides to join him working here, along with a small selection of reading and writing that he found/noted down in relation to the function(s) of the place and the tech used here. He will also be installing some security measures to ensure no one comes in and messes with the delicate balance of things and kills almost everyone on the station. That would be Bad.
Is your character(s) taking charge of the area? He will be taking charge of the area! Or at least, he will be the person who is getting to be the most familiar with the quirks of the system at the moment.
Does your character(s) want help?: Please, god, anyone who can help him sort out this mess is more than welcome. It's not very rewarding work between the stench and the muck, but it is extremely necessary.
