yata is like the second person on this ship that rey doesn't dislike on impulse. he thinks she's cool for some reason and for someone as attention-starved as rey, that's kind of addicting? she doesn't really know how to handle admiration and kind of blinks a lot and feels awkward. but in a good way! he isn't horrible to talk to and she doesn't feel like he's ever pressured her into answering questions or telling him too much about herself. that just kind of comes naturally. he is probably on the short list of people she could consider a friend right now!
