This is for the following positions: Navigation, the Tower, Medbay, Defense, the Hold, Sanitation, Ingress work, and the Galley/Mess Hall. If you sign up your character to be a head of department, remember that the Captain and First Mate will be looking at their records and history, which will influence their choices. The sign-ups will be open a short time, and then, the chosen character’s comment will be responded to. OOCly, players have until the next log to work with the HR staff and other players, which can be done through handwaving or threading, to help the crew come up with what job they’ll want.

It's definitely subjective. The Captain and First Mate would make sure he gets ample power since it's what keeps him going, but you could always play around that it doesn't happen at first and he's got to be given access. Whatever you wanna roll with.
I think I'd like to play around with that, actually! Mettaton EX is a very power-inefficient form, haha.
...I also thought of a different question which is, again, probably a little subjective. But MTT just came off a bad time with the last event, and he's going to be a little off with his job. I'm getting some strict vibes from the new captain and first mate, is there any kind of negative effect to come of him not doing his ship work religiously?
There wouldn't. They are efficient, but not necessarily strict. They are also very aware that the crew here signed up because they had no other choice. The crew that they worked with before chose that life. It's not the same and won't be treated the same, but they will try to encourage him to do his job.
