Adrien Arbuckal

Who is this character? Dr. Adrien Arbuckal is one of your ship physicians; for which I feel I should apologize. He is an original character and greater detail can be found on his application.
Tell us something about them. In a nutshell:

He's an extreme introvert, he just does not do peoples well and insists he's rubbish ... even thought his actions sometimes suggest otherwise.

He's a work-a-holic. Even though he has a hate/hate/love relationship with his role as a doctor he tends to live in the MedBay and actually takes his patients' health and well being very seriously. But he's more a blunt instrument than a delicate touch when it comes to delivering hard truths.

Survivor's Guilt. He suffers from survivor's guilt something fierce. First in relation to the death of his beloved sister Amette and then due to having blown up a few planets ... whoops.

He's an emotionally constipated train wreck. He really is. He's crap about talking and as such internalizes everything, but I really want to start trying to yank him out of this. More on that further down.

His military to the core. His brief period of happiness in his life was when he was with his world's military. He loves military life, lives and breaths it, even though he was forced into civilian life long ago.

He doesn't sleep, loves coffee. Honestly if you cut him you'd find coffee in his veins.

He LOVES puzzles. Seriously he may not socialize in the traditional sense but it's easy to catch him out, in a small corner of a busy lounge, working on a puzzle.
How long have they been on the Moira? He was on the Moira at the start of the game, has his memories from that time and he returned in the beginning of June. He's been aboard the ship for the stop at the Collective, the Caducian attack, the Ingress malfunction/glass situation and now the current jump to the Runoff and the slaver outpost.
What have they been doing? I mentioned the work-a-holic right?

One of the first things he did was go on a huge shopping spree for Medical. This included picking up some items that he's hoping to R&D into equipment for the Moira crew.

Given the recent events, he was running himself ragged with slamming into dead ends for the whole glass situation.

Most recently he was captured by slavers on the Outpost. Though he was used to treat the prized champions of murder sports, his attitude required a little adjustment so he's carrying some pretty significant contusions on his back and torso.
What do they think of the captains? After a month + with them he is still willing to accept them at face value. He doesn't trust, anyone so that's not really an issue but he does worry that the captains are very, VERY green and in over their heads. He'd also like to know what the Caducian's meant ... the previous Moira crew.
Have they figured out a plan of action? At the moment his plan of action is survival and the survival of the crew. To this end, he's been trying to work closely with the rest of the Medical staff and also get an idea of what is going on across the ship as a whole.

He's got some projects that he's been meaning to work on but events keep interrupting him. The biggest is to develop a diagnostic tool to be worked into the MIDs to help keep track of crew vitals. I've gotten permission to work on this project and bring a final proposal to the mods, so if there are ideas that crop up ICly during development, I'm open to this being a cross department endeavor!!
Is there something specific your character wants to do? Adrien would say keep to himself. He still believes he just wants to keep his head down, focus on his little corner of the ship and toddle along. Problem is at his core, he wants the crew to survive, which translates into getting more and more engaged in their well fare.
Got plans for the next month? MOAR MEDICAL CR!!! Seriously, please bring me your sick, injured, accident prone. I love medical CR.

I'm also hoping to toss him at more 'down time' scenario logs and interactions. June and July afforded some fantastic opportunities for building plotty CR and I'd like to work at carrying that over to more social stuff. Adrien will hate it but he's getting out voted.
What about plans over all? Help strengthen Medical to be as supportive as it can be to the crew and ... survive. Maybe solve a mystery along the way, just because he can't turn away from a puzzle.
Specific CR? Medical CR ... I can't repeat that enough really.

I would really like to work on friends or at least a social circle for him. Maybe try to get him to talk about some of what's weighing him down (and there is a lot!!) but I do this usually through tossing characters together and just seeing how they develop ICly. So hoping to hit up some open social log opportunities.
Anything else? There will be gifs in coming but first on a serious note, Adrien has some deep issues with Survivor's Guilt, Guilt in general, Grief and a background with some very dark elements to it through his prior game development. I understand that some folks won't want to go down darker paths when threading with him so please feel free to let me know this here on my HMD/OOC contact.

Conversely, if you are up to darker, philosophical type discussions and would be interested in seeing about such developments, please let me know! Here is good or p!Plurk or PM. I tend to err on the side of caution and keep Adrien's shit out of threads unless I've talked with the player before hand.

LOL!! Yes, he is a fact that has been brought up to him and caused a little bit of tension between Tex and Wash at one point so Adrien is aware of who Alpha/Church was and some high level details about his relationship with Tex. This is also not the first time Adrien’s been around a face twin, so he tends to take this stuff in stride but it can definitely be used as a point to open discussions!

Please throw Nihlus at me!! I would love another thread with him. I have a question for you and you can answer here or if you want to talk more privately my HMD is always available. On his previous ship Adrien met and knew Garrus very well, so he knows Turians, some of their history, fighting style and of course medical knowledge. That said I know that previous game CR can be a tricky boat and some players aren’t comfortable with a transfer of knowledge.

So I’ve been trying to make sure I communicate with other players and offer options of how much or how little YOU are comfortable with in terms of knowledge transfer? That sounds confusing I know but basically, if you’re good with it I can start weaving it into threads, if you’d rather only vague details just let me know what you’re comfortable with his known, and if you’d rather it be nothing at all I can always say the Ingress messed with those memories and Adrien has just a very vague “I feel like I should know space raptors but … nah, got nothing.”

admittedly, Nihlus' perspective on Turian politics, cultures and etc. will probably be very different since he's not Hierarchy born like Garrus is.

She'd probably be pretty interested in darker, philosophical type discussions. She's been through a lot with the recent event, so we could even get some medical stuff in too.

I literally squeed at work when I saw this notification! I was hoping to do some follow-up CR with Clara after the negotiations plot but I could never think of anything useful to bring you and I know you’ve got a full plate so I didn’t want to show up with just “uh …hi?”

I would LOVE to go into some of the darker, philosophical discussions with Clara! I think she is someone, through her own personal experiences, which could help draw Adrien into talking because he’d definitely see that she is in a position to understand how sometimes the universe is neither black or white/good or bad.

So in short YES PLEASE!! I would love to toss these two together and a definite starting point could be a medical thread if you’d like? (Seriously I am such a nerd for Medical CR)

I'm so late getting back to this, I'm sorry! But I think that they have the potential to be good friends and to get into some good conversations! So if you'd like, we could do a log right now, even? With Clara back from the outpost being shoved at medical to be looked over and patched up - maybe he could see she needs someone to talk to and could try, and she could open up to him a little?

And then the conversations can go from there, once she realizes that she can open up to him she'll come visit him to talk or just check up on him because he clearly needs someone to watch out for him.

A medical thread sounds like a perfect starting point, since he can definitely give her confirmation of her alive-ness (making up words) and actually might be surprisingly understanding about the whole “wait I was dead??” “Yes well … things happen” type explanations/conversations, if that would be of any help?

No worries! I know how RL can get and then things were really rocking and rolling in game these past couple of months. I am still very eager in having a thread with Peter and seeing what sort of CR might develop with these two!! A medical thread complete with fussing over ‘pls stop breaking yourself’ sounds like a good starting point and I am always up for that, because MEDICAL CR!!!

And of course, the face twin confusion. Adrien will insist that his hair is shorter and his accent less posh, that's how you can tell him apart from Charles. ;)

Is it a bad thing that your physician is as much of an insomniac? Adrien is actually very big into “do as I say, not as I do” so he would definitely attempt to help Stiles conquer the insomnia. I feel I should warn that Adrien is very anti-drug, so treatment with him would not immediately include sleeping pills. Sorry Stiles, you might get encouraged to talk, which is why I say Adrien is huge on “do as I say, not as I do”.

But yes, this is all something I would LOVE to explore and use as a starting point, if it sounds in line with your plans?

chinhands. i have a new physician about to take up space in the medbay! she'll likely be spending a lot of time there and there are bound to be tech differences between her home and the ship, so she'll probably have some questions for him while she plays catch-up!

one of her favorite things to do is to break people open (sometimes not even literally) and examine their emotionally wrecked insides, so that is always a possibility somewhere on the horizon

but mostly i saw this: develop a diagnostic tool to be worked into the MIDs to help keep track of crew vitals and thought hey if u need an actual program to bounce this off of, her armor comes equipped with a feature that is very similar to this. emily isn't a programmer so she can't really Make A Thing out of it herself, but she can drive her neato space suit over to someone who can if the topic ever comes up

OMGosh!! Hello and welcome to the insanity that is MedBay! I say that with all affection, I absolutely LOVE our medical group and the fact that many of us are as inside out as the patients we treat.

Adrien would definitely walk her through the equipment and answer questions. He’s got experience with helping medical/healers with getting comfortable with their local equipment but also he likes to hear about the strengths in other medical types because he’s always tried to ensure that Medical works as a team. When it comes to treating patients, there is always more than one way to do it, and each member of the team has specialties to be utilized. So if he can’t give a patient what they need, he knows who to refer them too on the team.

And YES! The MID project. There are a couple of characters on this team (or I should say OOCly that’s the plan, ICly still need to launch it) and her offer would be something Adrien would be interested in taking advantage of any and all testing avenues.

YES! To all of this tbh. I agree that there won’t really be time for getting to know you chatting during the rescue but a thread in the MedBay after the rescue would be a beautiful follow-up! That or at the bar log? Or hey, I’ll take both tbh if both could be an option, but I’m a greedy thing, just ask Mel.

I really do think Hawke is someone Adrien should have to deal with in his life. It’s good to drag him out of his comfort zone and though he may yelp about it ICly, please know that OOCly I am always for it and looking for ways to push him into growing to know and trust people.
