Survival is the exception "living is an act of courage."
THROUGH THE INGRESSThe Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a rocky planet. Former crew of the Moira are there to greet you, and it’s a grim message they have to share. The Moira has crashed and is beyond repair, but there’s good news... the destination the crew has been heading towards for over a year? You’re standing on it. But before you get into exploration and survival, it’s best to deal with the effects of coming through a broken Ingress. ☄ slip and tripfind your footing fastComing through the Ingress has left your character with one of three changes - an age slip, a form of body horror, or an extreme weakness. The first, the age slip, will mean that the character is either older or younger and this change can’t be rectified during their first month in game. The second, body horror, comes in the form of an alteration to the character's body due to whatever they were carrying at the time they came through. If they were wearing a watch, it’s now fused to their wrist, clothes are permanent, knifes replace fingers, and many other alterations (anything goes) and it lasts the first month as well. The third, extreme weakness, can be a mental or physical decrease - weaker arms, legs, or the weaker ability to talk or do math.
ooc: the choice of change is up to each player and this prompt can be game canon.
☄ introductions aren’t awkwardas long as you don’t shake their hand too longA new planet. Physical and mental changes. Talk of a ship that crashed and a Hub that is home to the ‘creators’ of a technology you’ve never heard of. A lot is happening and the best way to sort through it is by getting to know the Moira’s crew. They’ll help you settle in and get you any care you might need, all the while informing you that the group is on its way to the center of the hub. Something that might seem mundane is an absolute necessity for survival. Ask a seasoned space traveling veteran for answers and guidance.

☄ dealer's choicejust make the right oneCharacters have the option of coming through an Ingress that is any possible location on this planet. It can be inside a cave, at the top of a rock formation, etc. This means you can have your character have to climb or slide down, have them yelling for help, and have other characters see them and come to their aid. Your character's arrival is completely up to you, and since this is a unique situation that hasn't happened before, go nuts with it!

lavellan ( dragon age )
[ that sure is a small, dazed-looking elf with a hand made of what looks like crackling green energy standing there. he sure is looking around like he's never seen anything so alarming. actually, he kind of resembles an affronted cat, and the look only increases as he glances down and narrows his eyes at his glowing hand.
he has the most shite luck in the entire world.
he glances up at the person closest to him, making an all-encompassing gesture with his normal hand. ]
I'd just like to make it known that none of this is my fault this time. If we could just establish that right here.. [ because otherwise, no one from home will ever let him live it down. ]

[By comparison, the man standing nearby is just a shade under six feet tall--which isn't much compared to most of his friends, admittedly, but leaves him all but towering over the tiny elf. He's wearing a three-piece suit (necktie, waistcoat, pocket watch and all) and staring around at their surroundings with his hands in his pockets, looking... well, only a little more at ease than said affronted cat.
(He's also rather gorgeous, has golden eyes, and speaks with a pronounced Irish accent.)]
Have you made it a habit to drag people away from their normal dimensions before, then? That's an oddly specific tendency, you know. I can see why people might try pointing fingers, if this is what you usually get up to.
[He's teasing, very obviously. The grin gives it away. He does not, for the record, seem terribly worried about the glowy hand.]

the teasing makes him flush, the points of his ears going a little pink. ] Well, in all honesty, it happens rather more than I'd like it to. [ it's happened twice. only once with other people in tow. still, that was twice too many times for mahanon's comfort. and does anyone else in thedas really have to worry about something like that, anyway??
he's about two seconds from panicking about what the anchor's done to his hand, too, but he'll hold off until there's a more convenient time and place for that. instead, he glances back up, frowning. ] I got a short, terrible explanation when I arrived, but I have to admit that I didn't precisely understand it.
no subject
I take it you're not a Shunter then, if this isn't supposed to happen. Then again, if you were a Shunter, you probably wouldn't be stuck here with the rest of us saps either. [He shrugs, the grin fading.] I didn't get much out of it either. Something about trying to get home, but their ship's gone and crashed on this delightful backwater planet. So here we are.
[He pauses for a moment, then finally takes a good look at the elf's glowing hand, cocking his head to the side just a little.]
Has your hand always done that?
no subject
the question earns a slightly distressed glance, then one back down to his hand. he wiggles the fingers, frowning. ]
No, never. Generally it's just a green glowing scar in the middle of my palm. [ this is alarming. it doesn't hurt right now, but he's sure it's only a matter of time. and how can he fix it? ] It works fine, though, so I suppose I can't complain. Other people seem to have much worse problems they're dealing with.
no subject
Sorry, a Dimensional Shunter. It's a type of Adept magic where I'm from. Not a terribly common one, though. The bad Shunters tend to do stupid things like ending up in dimensions without breathable air. Only a handful of them left these days.
[His face lights up at the mention of the elf being a mage as well, though the glowing hand thing derails that particular bit of conversation for the moment. He'll have to remember to come back to that.]
It doesn't hurt? [There's genuine concern on his face; he starts to reach out, almost as if he's reaching to try to touch the hand, but realizes just in time that that might seem... rude. Instead he reaches up to the collar of his white shirt and leans down a little, pulling at the collar and the necktie around it. Which don't budge. At all. Someone's gone and gotten his necktie fused to his neck.]
My own little welcoming gift. Not quite as flashy as yours.
no subject
[ the question earns a small shake of his head, though, the frown deepening faintly. ] No, not at the moment. [ if the normal version of the anchor hurts like the very void at times, he doesn't want to think about what this one will do. instead, he sucks in a bracing breath, then glances up in time to catch the other man trying to adjust his tie.
.. what the-- he stares for a moment, then his brows arch, alarmed. ] --How in the Wolf's name are you going to bathe? [ look, mahanon likes being clean. this is a serious problem. ]
no subject
[Erskine straightens up, staring at the glowing hand a moment longer.]
You said it's normally a glowing scar? What is it? If... you don't mind me asking?
[At the elf's question he stops, blinking, and then can't help but bursting out laughing.]
You know, I didn't even consider that--I was so busy worrying about choking.
Suh fellow protag o/
Because that isn't suspicious at all. Done this quite a lot, have we?
[ The guilty almost always carry on about their innocence to anyone and everyone they can get to listen, in her experience. Not always. Just often.
As for the glowy hand thing, just don't point it in her direction. She's already got a healthy respect for things that glow ominously like that. ]
Saying "this time" is hardly the best way to inspire confidence, you realize.
hello comrade \o
anyway-- he turns to peer at her properly, making a gesture toward the crash. ] Sorry, but did you get a better explanation for-- for that? I heard something about a ship, but frankly, that doesn't look like any ship I've ever seen. And did anyone mention anything about going home? [ because, you know, he left some things cooking back in thedas. ]
no subject
[ Yeah. How's that for a horror story, huh? ]
I did not, no. The usual 'whoops, our mistake, off you go' and subsequent aimless wandering around. They're not the most organized kidnappers.
no subject
[ her response helps, though-- at least he knows she's also from thedas.. or at least somewhere that's enough like thedas to also have the fade. and rage demons. that's sort of comforting, considering that he was gearing up to be entirely alone here.
after a moment, he heaves a sigh, reaching up to flip his braid back over his shoulder. ] No, they really aren't. You'd think they'd have some sort of itinerary for us, you know.. interrogations at this time, pleas-for-mercy at this time, followed by a light lunch--
no subject
Maker, that sounds awful. All that green and mist and - [ Ugh. Dragging her hands down her face. ] - it probably stinks like rotten eggs and regret in there.
[ Not to mention cleaning all the crap out of one's clothing must take positively ages afterwards. Noooooo thanks. ]
They might have a waiting list. Torture racks are very popular this year.
