Survival is the exception
"living is an act of courage."

THROUGH THE INGRESS
The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a rocky planet.

Former crew of the Moira are there to greet you, and it’s a grim message they have to share. The Moira has crashed and is beyond repair, but there’s good news... the destination the crew has been heading towards for over a year? You’re standing on it. But before you get into exploration and survival, it’s best to deal with the effects of coming through a broken Ingress.

☄ slip and trip
find your footing fast
Coming through the Ingress has left your character with one of three changes - an age slip, a form of body horror, or an extreme weakness. The first, the age slip, will mean that the character is either older or younger and this change can’t be rectified during their first month in game. The second, body horror, comes in the form of an alteration to the character's body due to whatever they were carrying at the time they came through. If they were wearing a watch, it’s now fused to their wrist, clothes are permanent, knifes replace fingers, and many other alterations (anything goes) and it lasts the first month as well. The third, extreme weakness, can be a mental or physical decrease - weaker arms, legs, or the weaker ability to talk or do math.

ooc: the choice of change is up to each player and this prompt can be game canon.

☄ introductions aren’t awkward
as long as you don’t shake their hand too long
A new planet. Physical and mental changes. Talk of a ship that crashed and a Hub that is home to the ‘creators’ of a technology you’ve never heard of. A lot is happening and the best way to sort through it is by getting to know the Moira’s crew. They’ll help you settle in and get you any care you might need, all the while informing you that the group is on its way to the center of the hub. Something that might seem mundane is an absolute necessity for survival. Ask a seasoned space traveling veteran for answers and guidance.

ooc: this prompt can be game canon.

☄ dealer's choice
just make the right one
Characters have the option of coming through an Ingress that is any possible location on this planet. It can be inside a cave, at the top of a rock formation, etc. This means you can have your character have to climb or slide down, have them yelling for help, and have other characters see them and come to their aid. Your character's arrival is completely up to you, and since this is a unique situation that hasn't happened before, go nuts with it!

ooc: this prompt can be game canon.

"It's weird," they grumble, opening and closing one fist--bad taste or not, Frisk doesn't seem to mind the joke. Or maybe they don't notice it as a joke at all. "Everythin' was the same for so long, it...I keep expecting people t' forget me again, an' I'll have t' start over."

Which is stupid. They know very well that this world won't RESET, no matter how hard anyone wills it. Second chances aren't in their grasp anymore.

"Would that really be so terrible?"

If they could start over, why, they could exactly the sort of ending they want. Why fix anything when you could instead facilitate a lack of a need for fixing? Is it not easier?

That would be as they've come to expect, after all.

Frisk's lips press thin, and they remember words said by this same voice, months ago. A promise made to keep them stable, a lie to stop them from something they couldn't take back.

'We'll fix everything.'

So what should they say? The right thing, or the truth?

"...I want to go back and fix everythin'. I do. But I don't want to lose the good times I've had, either. It's stupid isn't it?" They huff out a harsh laugh, and scrub at their eyes. "It's better for everyone that we can't SAVE here. I'd just...hurt everyone all over again."

It's better for everyone.

That we can't SAVE here.

Just because they can, they have to, and so they do. They make an attempt. They consolidate the glistening red spear of their determination so they may lever it into the ground, pin time into a standstill, and...

...

* Nothing happened.

...well, it would benefit them to make sure. Frisk will have to forgive them for their doubt; you see, they are not in the habit of immediate trust.

"You never seemed to have difficulty making that choice back home," they say easily, a statement that is just as much a veiled query as it is also subtly testing the waters. What have you been up to?

They can feel the attempt, vaguely. Like something rattling against the world, the faintest of tremors in the bones of reality. They try not to react to Chara's attempt, but the slightest tilt of their head gives them away.

They understand. It's scary, losing that control.

But a question like that--Frisk freezes, trying to think. What were their reasons? How did it start, why hasn't it ended yet? They know it hasn't ended, they know that, but their memories are too crammed full of everything for any of it to sort itself out.
* Please don't think about this anymore.
"I...I know, but I...I can't remember why anymore. I can't remember what came first. I can't remember what's fake. I-it all got shoved int' me an'--it all feels real, but I know it can't all be!"

Frisk turns around to Chara again, trying their best to ignore the echoes of code pounding on their mind. "What--what was th' last thing that happened? What did we do?"

"You SAVED the world, Frisk."

They refuse to be perturbed. This, this is something they can do. They can be calm and contained, standing there with their back ramrod-straight, and they can relay how wonderful Frisk is to everyone.

"The Barrier is broken. Everyone goes free."

But there's still one last threat to everyone's happiness, isn't there?

Ha ha.

"Take a deep breath," says Chara, smilingly. "There's nothing left to worry about."

They hadn't remembered before. Hadn't seen the surface, hadn't fought against their brother to bring him to his senses again.

"How many times?"

Hadn't seen the world go back against their wishes.

"Did we...I remember it going back again. I remember we both got pulled back to the start, and...it was like the first time. No one remembered. And I tried again, but it kept happening..."

They shake their head, grinding the heels of their hands into their eyes.

"Was that real?"

"Many," says Chara. They grind the word out slowly, deliberately, and let it lay there, slack and heavy, like the oblique challenge it is. "Many, many times."

They remember death. They remember the power of a SAVE welling up in a small human's chest. But it refused, right? And then - back to the start. Begin again. Begin again. Begin.

Again.

SAVE their brother again. Cheapen your victory. SAVE everyone over and over again. Feels good, does it not? To be wanted. To be needed. To prove how sincerely and completely Chara failed in their task, how much no one needed to die, how much they were not and never will be needed again.

Begin again.

No. Again.

"It was," says Chara, the words nearly inaudible but for the quiet "s" curling out between their teeth, "very much," and their smile curls subtly, "real."

It was real.

It was real.

It was...

They should have expected this. It makes sense, with what they remember telling Chara before. What they told Sans. Over and over again, like a machine, like a toy, just wind it up and watch them go, helping the whole Underground like a good little savior. And why should they complain, right? They've made all these great friends, after all! Time after time after time, they know exactly what to do. Once you know the tricks, it's almost like \E0This is all just&a GAME./

Don't think about it.

Frisk looks up again, and the question dies in their throat. They don't want to know more. They don't want to know if they've already broken the world apart before, gathered every bit of LOVE they could find and put everything to rest, just to set it all back up and start again. They don't want to know who holds the chains on their SOUL, if the happy ending really exists anymore. They don't want to know if they've already become the one thing they're terrified of being.

"I'm sorry."

They don't know what else to say.

"I'm not sure what you stand to gain by apologizing to me." With a smile and a laugh and a distinct lack of concern. It does not matter. You can watch the wheel spin only so many times before it grows so dreadfully wearying to watch. And they were sick of this world even before their own anomalous status trapped them in that wonderful Sisyphean loop!

They say there are many different types of Hell. Different levels, different circles for the very worst sinners in the world.

Perhaps this is simply the next circle down and to the left, hm?

"After all," says Chara, with an uneven smirk, "I already know your sins. Don't I?"
gainedlove: (* Shatter)

"That's not--" Their protest halts, choked out before it can even begin. They've said it before, haven't they? Whispered into golden petals, murmured through tears that soak uselessly into the dirt. Should have tried harder, shouldn't they? Why don't you know what to do, Frisk, you're the one that holds all the strings! Just can't figure out what to do with that bright red SOUL of yours, can you?

Just keep being good the only way you know how.

Their hand balls up tightly in their sweater, and their eyes drop.

"...yeah. You do."

Said something wrong again. That's nothing new. That continues to be their sole claim to fame in all things. The potential for chaos, and the demon that brings it about.

"Well," says the child, altogether too brightly, almost bracingly. Let's re-establish that status quo, shall we not? Make it easier on all of us! "It seems we have miles to go between the pair of us. I suppose we had best make some measure of progress."

Introductions and re-introductions can get to be terribly tiresome, wouldn't you know.
